Spotlighting the best of Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional, and experimental writings since 2000, Duo!: The Best Scenes for Two for the 21st Century offers bravura pieces for performance, acting class, and study. Culled from the work of over 100 playwrights – veterans as well as up-and-coming talents – and encompassing the seminal issues of our time – from race to gender, class to politics – this follow-up compendium to the popular edition of the 1990s is by turns comic or, serious – and sometimes both – but always intensely human. Duo!'s satisfyingly complex characters are the obscure or famous, young, middle-aged, and older.
Tracy Letts confronts the aftermath of betrayal on a night too hot for sleep in August: Osage County; Karen Finley exposes sexual politics outside the Oval Office in George & Martha; Tom Stoppard investigates the difficulties of understanding Greek as well as the younger generation in Rock 'n' Roll; Lynn Nottage delineates gentility, the fear of being alone, and the passage of time in Intimate Apparel; Richard Greenberg weighs the costs of being godly or becoming merely human in the baseball-themed Take Me Out; and Tina Howe bends time, showing the universal power of dramatic recognition across the ages, in Water Music.

Title: Great scenes
Review: My acting partner and I had a BLAST with this book. The scenes were very realistic and it was easy for us to get right into character. I love the way the book is organized with the "One woman, One man Scenes" and so on so you can easily go to whatever situation you were in.

Title: Excellent source for scene study.
Review: I just received this book to add to my library of scene books. I teach acting at a university. I am relieved to find that the book includes scenes I have not previously seen in any other scene book. (That was a lot of "scenes/seens"!) Each scene includes a helpful age/style/synopsis breakdown. Good purchase.

Title: Good but repetitive
Review: It's a good scene book, but the scenes are very similar, especially for the guys with girls. I would have like to seen more variation. But I like how it tells you the type of scene In The table of content and the ages. It makes selecting scenes so much easier

Title: Lots of scenes, some strong language
Review: I bought this book for my high school forensics team. It has lots of choices, and is conveniently organized into male/female, male/male and female/female duos. However, there is some strong language, which is unfortunate. If my students find a piece they particularly like, and it had the more adult language, they would have to "b!**p" it out from the dialogue. Additionally, most of the pieces are quite short, and I'd like a few longer ones for the students who wish to have more a challenge. Aside from these two concerns, I think it is a great book for an acting class or a forensics team.

Title: Got mine
Review: The book is new and having student Prime ships 2 days is great! Sucks that for my class we only pick out 1 scene from the book to act...that was a waste of money for that I didn't know. But the book has tons of plays for 2 so I guess recommend to act for fun?
