Not all devices on your home network have the same level of security protection. IoT devices, such as VoIP devices and connected toys, are notoriously vulnerable to cyber-attacks. A good security practice is to isolate these devices from the rest of your network. And if you work from home, you want to separate your work devices from your home devices for better privacy.

The technology to achieve this purpose is VLAN, which is routinely deployed in enterprise networks. But it's rarely made available to the home user due to its complexity. The pcWRT router solves this problem by providing 5 preconfigured VLANs, so that the user can simply assign their devices to the preconfigured VLANs to achieve the desired security benefits.

The pcWRT router comes with a myriad of configuration options to suit all your VPN needs. Three scenarios are depicted above but there are many other possibilities, including port forwarding with VPN, VPN guest user mode, VPN VLAN access controls, VPN in and VPN out, site-to-site VPN etc.

【VLAN NETWORK SEGREGATION】With 5 preconfigured VLANs, this router makes it easy for you to segragate your home network for better security. Security challenged IoT devices belong to their own network, guest devices too. If you work from home, put your work devices on yet another isolated network. For wired connections, simply assign an Ethernet port to a VLAN. For wireless connections, assign an SSID to a VLAN. Up to 4 WiFi SSIDs are supported per band.
【BULTIN VPN CLIENT AND SERVER】For maximum compatibility with your VPN services, the router supports three VPN protocols: OpenVPN, IPsec and WireGuard. And you can have some VLANs go through a VPN connection, while leaving other VLANs on your ISP connection. A device can connect to a VPN or disconnect from it by switching the VLAN it connects to. For wireless connections, this means you simply connect to a different SSID.
【PARENTAL CONTROL THAT WORKS】Parental control is never a one-size-fits-all solution. There's no such thing as "it just works". Every family has different criteria and requirements. As such, the router provides you maximum flexibility in configuring parental controls. You can configure bulk filtering with trusted services such as OpenDNS, CleanBrowsing, Cloudflare etc. Augment that with local block/allow lists, domain specific time schedules etc. And, as may be required for older kids, enable builtin defense against various bypassing techniques.
【ONE-CLICK AD BLOCKING】With a single click, enable network-wide ad blocking, which not only blocks ads in browsers but also in apps. When needed, each user can pause ad-blocking on their device without logging into the router.
【FLEXIBLE DNS CONFIGS】Encrypt DNS with DNS over HTTPS. The router comes with preconfigured settings for OpenDNS, Quad9, CleanBrowsing, AdGuard, Google and Cloudflare. It also allows you to add your own DNS configurations. And you can choose different DNS services/configurations for different devices.
【NETWORK MONITORING】Monitor all activities on your network. See which domains, IP addresses, protocols and ports are accessed by which devices. See how much bandwidth is consumed by each device and to what servers.

I recommend it to anybody that wants to upgrade and obtain professional level privacy and security when using the internet with the many devices we all have, including the IOT devices that stream movies, tv and music, and the devices that connect household items to the internet.PCWRT Router includes the highly regarded Open Source software “OpenWRT”. That software allows one to isolate the ethernet ports and wifi to your desired configuration—it allows you to determine if the devices connected to the ports via ethernet or wifi can communicate with each other or be isolated and not have any interaction with other devices on your network; basically putting devices and their connections to your network in prison. The isolation protects your network from prying eyes and hackers.PCWRT accommplishes a highy sought goal: to make OPENWRT and VLAN (the isolation method used on the PCWRT) easily accessible to the non-techy, which in the past would be out of reach to non-professionals. Title: Very happy with it
Review: My husband plays video games on a Meta Quest 2. Race cars and flying planes are his favorites. He's going to be 80 next year, but is still a big kid when it comes to this.He had no problems hooking this up. It was kind of like a plug and play experience. Has worked great since. He uses his PC daily for something and no complaints.And all this is possible even though we live on the outskirts of how far our internet reaches from the main box out here, we are about 5.5 miles from it and we only get a 12MB connection at the highest. It's a wonder that we can do what we do. He also watches videos on his PC without any lag time or buffering. We used to have to have an internet satellite dish and that was a royal pain.He uses this router to pick up the wi-fi from the companies router ,that we have our service with. Treating it like a "hotspot".My PC runs faster now also.Very pleased with this.

Title: Works!
Review: The router had stopped working completely. I had bought it 6 months ago. The webchat support with TP link was great. Bruce Pacres helped me troubleshoot through the process. It took more than an hour, but my router is working fine now ! Apparently the router had to be reconnected to a 'new' modem to bring it back to life!

Title: so far, so great !
Review: Like many others, I requested this router for its enhanced security features. It offers VLAN network segregation with 5 preconfigured VLANs, allowing my siblings and me to separate the home network for improved security. In short, this has been the perfect Wi-Fi 6 router for our new family vacation site, where I need a secure connection for work, my brother requires a fast network for gaming and streaming, and my sister wants parental control features. In addition, if you don't have an ad-blocking feature, this router also comes with built-in ad blocking that can be enabled with a single click, offering network-wide ad blocking.So far, this router has been working great over the past 5 months (although we only use it when we are at the vacation site). It provides a strong signal throughout the cabins! Definitely worth the price in my opinion.

Title: 5G signal not as good as previous router, blazing fast when close
Review: First off, having a router with OpenWRT out of the box is a HUGE plus. There's so much customization you can do and the feature set is outstanding. It's great to have the parental controls with kids in the house and the security features are something even top router manufacturers want you to pay a subscription for. The biggest downside for me is the range. The 5G range is quite a bit lower than my previous 4 year old router from the big search company. That router had other issues and this one is an improvement overall, but I have to use the 2.4G side to get the range I had before. This just means I don't quite get the speed I would hope when I a further away, but being close, it's very fast and stable. It's connected to fiber internet and I am getting what I would expect, just as long as I am fairly close (not more than one room over).
