Academy Award® nominee Viggo Mortensen and Academy Award® winner Mahershala Ali star in Green Book, a film inspired by a true friendship that transcended race, class, and the 1962 Mason-Dixon line. When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger as well as unexpected humanity and humor—they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

Title: A Heartwarming and Inspiring Journey of Friendship and Understanding
Review: "Green Book" is a captivating and heartfelt film that tells the true story of an unlikely friendship formed in the face of prejudice and ignorance. Directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, this 2018 film is a beautiful blend of humor, drama, and poignant social commentary.Viggo Mortensen stars as Tony Lip, a tough, working-class bouncer from the Bronx who is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, an African-American classical pianist played by Mahershala Ali, on a concert tour through the racially segregated South in the 1960s. Mortensen delivers an outstanding performance, embodying Tony's brash yet good-hearted nature with authenticity and charm. Mahershala Ali's portrayal of Dr. Shirley is equally compelling, capturing the character's sophistication, dignity, and internal struggles with grace and depth. The chemistry between Mortensen and Ali is the heart of the film. Their evolving relationship, from initial suspicion and misunderstanding to genuine respect and friendship, is depicted with sincerity and nuance. The witty and often humorous dialogue between the two characters provides many memorable moments, while the more serious scenes highlight the harsh realities of racism and bigotry during that era."Green Book" is beautifully shot, capturing the contrast between the opulence of Dr. Shirley's world and the gritty reality of Tony's everyday life. The period details, from the costumes to the sets, are meticulously crafted, immersing viewers in the 1960s setting. The film's pacing is well-balanced, allowing for both the development of the central friendship and the exploration of broader social themes. The soundtrack of "Green Book" is another standout element, featuring a mix of classical piano pieces and period-appropriate music that enhances the emotional impact of the story. The music not only serves as a backdrop but also as a reflection of Dr. Shirley's cultural and personal identity. One of the most powerful aspects of "Green Book" is its ability to address serious social issues with a light touch, without diminishing their importance. It tackles topics such as racism, class differences, and cultural identity with sensitivity and thoughtfulness, making it both an entertaining and thought-provoking film. The script, co-written by Nick Vallelonga (Tony Lip's real-life son), Brian Currie, and Peter Farrelly, is sharp and insightful, offering both humor and depth. In addition to the main feature, the Blu-ray/DVD release includes a variety of special features, such as behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the cast and crew, and commentary that provides additional context and insight into the making of the film and the real-life events that inspired it.Overall, "Green Book" is a remarkable film that offers a powerful message about the transformative power of friendship and understanding. With stellar performances, a compelling story, and a perfect blend of humor and drama, it is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates films that entertain while also enlightening and inspiring. Highly recommended!

Title: Excellent Movie!
Review: Very highly recommend viewing this movie. Although there is a lot of smoking and some occasional violence, it is very representative of the time (1962). The acting is superb and the true story it is based on provides a great lesson in human interaction. We watched this with our 9- & 12-year-old kids, pausing it occasionally to explain the subtle points or references. The entire family really enjoyed the movie.

Title: Greenbook
Review: What can I say? This movie is about a well-known pianist who is in need of a driver and an apparent bodyguard to travel with during the early 60s. Two men of different backgrounds racially, economically, and financially come together and forge a beautiful, long-lasting friendship. I laughed, cried, and laughed again. A wonderful movie that I could watch over and over.

Title: A Great Film
Review: The Green Book records a sad chapter in America, racism in the 1960s. The film title comes from a real book that was used especially by Black citizens to determine which cities in the Deep South were safe for African-Americans to be out in public after sundown. It also listed hotels and restaurants that served Black Americans. The story or plot line of the movie is based on real events. Dr. Don Shirley, a pianist of genius formed a jazz trio and went on tour into the South in the early 1960s. He traveled alone in his Cadillac with his only company being his white Italian-American chauffeur, Tony Lap. The tour takes place in the eight weeks prior to Christmas Eve. People often compare the film (or rather contrast it) with Driving Miss Daisy. But, that is a mistake. Viewed from that comparison the movie is considered by some film critics and movie makers such as Spike Lee as being racist. The Green Book did win the Oscar for Best Picture and Mahshala Ali won a much-deserved Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Dr. Don Shirley. Viggo Mortensen was nominated for Best Actor, but did not win. My first viewing was like reading a mystery novel. I wanted to focus on Ali and his story. I came away from that screening with the feeling that the movie could indeed be considered racist. It is the product of wealthy and powerful white writers, director, and producers. It is, after all, the story of a Black musical genius during a dangerous tour through Jim Crow America. However, on second and third viewings, I began to realize that movie is about the total transformation of the Italian-American Bronx tough guy, Tony Lap, from a racist New Yorker into a very decent man. The movie is really more about the chauffeur than his famous passenger. The performances are outstanding and the musical score is magnificent. I still think it would be interesting to see a second movie of from the same material, but a version written, produced, and directed (e.g., Spike Lee) by Black artists. Given the expense of film creation, that scenario is highly unlikely. Enjoy Driving Miss Daisy with Jessica Tandy and Morgan friends, just do not confused it with the real-life story of one of America's greatest mid-20th century musical artists. Advice. The Green Book is a movie that must be seen at least twice. Incidentally, a pleasant surprise is the genuine humor in the film such as the subject of whether or not Tony carries a gun. There is also the tender side story of the letters that Tony writes to his wife in his absence at a family time of the year. This movie would make a great discussion point for movie versions of book clubs. Ideally, such a screening should be shown to an audience of both whites and Blacks. It should definitely been seen and discussed. The real Green Book was a horrible book that confirmed and perhaps even glorified racism, but the movie is all about social redemption and it is beautifully filmed.

Review: Excelente. La película es muy buena. Trae pocos extras, que es uno de los motivos que me hacen comprar formato físico. Pero bueno se ve que la tendencia de las productoras de cine es hacer lo básico.

Review: Fantastic 60's vibe, sets and costumes.Very nice, colorful transfer. The "on the road" outdoor scenes were exceptionally crisp along with the shine and chrome of the cars. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack was very adequate, especially good during the musical sequences. I haven't watched the accompanying Blu Ray, so can't comment on it.
