Title: Helpful diet and nutrition recommendations not found in other kits
Review: As a knowledge junkie, I had already taken the Ancestry DNA test and run that through Prometheus to see my health data before I bought the Vitagene test set. What intrigued me the most about Vitagene and is unique in the DNA test world is its ability to bridge your ancestry information with your health. How does where we come from affect our diet and longevity? Plus this kit was an easy cheek-swab test, so why not, right?Though this kit didnât exactly give me the key to the âfountain of youth,â it did give me really valuable insights into my health and how I should alter my current diet and exercise routine to live my best life. For example, I now can see how I metabolize caffeine, carbs and fat (hint: keto life isnât for me), and I have finally solved my diet dilemma: am I affected by lactose or gluten? Solved! I also really appreciate that they give example meal plans based on the information they gave me. It can be a lot to âdigestâ all at once, but the online format makes it really easy to understand. The supplement recommendation section was actually very empowering. I had already done quite a bit of research on my own about what supplements I should be taking and seeing that Vitagene recommends what Iâve been taking is really reaffirming. They even recommended one additional supplement which Iâm excited to try out. Yay. ⺠The genetic traits report is also very interesting. I have always had dry skin and have taken omegas to try to help, but it never seemed to do much good. The report shows that I am naturally getting the omegas I need from my diet and that a supplement in vitamin E might be better for me. Interesting! The genetic traits section has the most interesting information on exercise; Iâve included a few screenshots. What mine shows is that I am likely to exercise more often and, though I have low ability to build muscle and am highly likely to be sore from exercise, âpower and enduranceâ exercises will be effective for me when trying to lose weight. Neat.Overall, Iâm very happy with the test results and am excited to test their recommendations. I think my family would find these really interesting as well -- Iâm interested to see if my siblings have similar or very different diet/health recommendations since we are all very different looking. I wonder if at the core we are all the same. There might be some Vitagene kits in their stockings this year. âº

Title: It's not what you think it is
Review: In purchased one of these for myself and another for my mother. I had high hopes from this test but after weeks upon weeks of waiting for the results, we were disappointed to say the least. You should not purchase this kit if you want anything other than a basic "where ya from?" DNA analysis. I should have stuck with an actual ancestry kit. Anyway so my mom and I both found out that we are Caucasian Europeans. Imagine that! Take a other $80 and yell me what color our hair is! What this test should be used for is health. It's nothing that a Dr. couldn't tell you from a physical but it's cheaper and more convenient I suppose. But even that didn't give me much to go off of because you fill out this long survey online that give you all of the health crap anyway. Q: Do you feel depressed at times? A: yes, sometimes. Result: you may suffer from depression and may benefit from taking St. John's Wort, on sale now at our shop for only $19.95. It's a silly kit. You get what you pay for.

Title: Super Simple Process!
Review: I'm very impressed with this product and its ease of use. Other members of my family had gotten DNA tests completed for ancestry, but none of them included a health component! That's one of the reasons this DNA test was more exciting to me than most others. The product arrived quickly (gotta love Amazon Prime) and I was able to turn it around in just a matter of days. One tip - make sure you swab for DNA when you wake up and before you brush your teeth or drink any water. The instructions recommend this and I forgot about it the first morning so I waited another day.The packaging is simple and elegant, with all of the elements gently wrapped in tissue paper. You take the swabs and roll them around the insides of your cheeks and break the tips off into the small vials. They require two samples just to be safe. The best part about the whole process was that the packaging included a pre-made return label, so no hassle there!Overall great experience and I can't wait to see what my ancestry is, as well as my health profile!EDIT: I got my results back (pretty quickly) and am so excited! My ancestry came back more or less as expected, but I did have some interesting parts of the world included like Central Asia and West Middle East. The biggest differentiator of this test is the health component. I was pleased to find how comprehensive it was and it even revealed my slow caffeine metabolism. This explains why I've always had higher sensitivity to caffeine and I had no idea why until I got these results. I'm likely going to try some of their other products (like Smart Supplements) that pair with my personal DNA test results and see if that improves certain aspects of my health. I would definitely recommend this test.

Title: results are interested but not earth shattering - Would have liked the print copy but it is no longer offered
Review: I am adopted and have always been curious about my ethnicity. The process was easy to follow and I received the results in less time than promised - right before my birthday, which was the goal. A large part of why I purchased this was to receive the book, which I now see is no longer offered, which is disappointing. The health results were interesting, and not as generic as some reviews lead one to believe (for example, my reports indicates that sodium does NOT spike BP as it does with many; and strength training will not build muscle as it does with some.)I would have like greater detail on why the diet and exercise recommendations were made (why only beef listed under protein recommendations, for example) - they seemed far too tailored to my questionnaire responses than science based.Overall I found it an adequate starting point, but in hindsight, may have chosen a different company for greater specificity.
