It's the worst sort of surprise: A valued and seemingly happy employee gives his notice. Can you do anything at this point? Probably not. Could you have anticipated the departure and tried to prevent it? Absolutely. That's where this audiobook comes in.
This practical guide introduces managers to a powerful new engagement and retention tool: the stay interview. Smart companies have begun conducting these periodic reviews in order to discover why their important talent might leave and to solve any problems before they actually quit. Written by the retention expert who pioneered the process, The Stay Interview shows managers how to:
Prepare for the meeting Anticipate an employee's top issues Set realistic expectations from the start Respond to difficult questions Listen effectively and dig deeper Craft a detailed and effective stay plan complete with timeline Assess each employee's level of engagement, predict potential exits, and communicate results to upper management
Complete with the five best questions to ask and sample scripts for different situations, The Stay Interview is the key to a more engaged... and much more productive team.

Title: Concise overview of stay interviewing
Review: I purchased this book after attending a webinar through SHRM where the author gave a short presentation on retaining millenials. This book further emphasizes what I learned in that webinar, all stemming from five questions he has developed to get the most information from your team members during a stay interview, which he calls the "SI 5."Besides offering these five key questions, Mr. Finnegan convinces the reader that the stay interview is necessary, shows how to prepare for the stay interview, charts probing questions to follow up on the SI 5, and gives advice on developing stay plans with team members. Several managers with whom he has worked also give accounts at the end of the book. For the length of the book, he has only included the most necessary information which appears to have covered much of what managers would expect to hear from their teams. I would recommend this to any manager or HR professional serious about improving retention.

Title: Wondering why your valuable employees may quit? Ask Them!
Review: This guide is easy for managers at any level of experience to use to have impactful one-on-one conversations with each member of their team. It provides a clear process, simple questions, and many best practices. Turnover is expensive and disruptive. This useful book helps implement Stay Interviews with existing employees. I think it is better to ask employees when the last time they thought about leaving before they just quit or worst just don't show up. Then as a leader, I can surely find something that would make a difference so they stay with our organization longer. Good action planning tips in the book too.

Title: Not a bad introductory book on the material
Review: The book does a pretty good job outlining what constitutes a stay interview and the purposes behind it. Just didn't seem to go deep enough into the material.
