#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER A classic legal thriller—with a twist. "A suspenseful thriller mixed with powerful themes such as false incarceration, the death penalty and how the legal system shows prejudice.” —Associated Press
In the small Florida town of Seabrook, a young lawyer named Keith Russo was shot dead at his desk as he worked late one night. The killer left no clues. There were no witnesses, no one with a motive. But the police soon came to suspect Quincy Miller, a young Black man who was once a client of Russo’s.
Quincy was tried, convicted, and sent to prison for life. For twenty-two years he languished in prison, maintaining his innocence. But no one was listening. He had no lawyer, no advocate on the outside. In desperation, he writes a letter to Guardian Ministries, a small nonprofit run by Cullen Post, a lawyer who is also an Episcopal minister.
Guardian accepts only a few innocence cases at a time. Cullen Post travels the country fighting wrongful convictions and taking on clients forgotten by the system. With Quincy Miller, though, he gets far more than he bargained for. Powerful, ruthless people murdered Keith Russo, and they do not want Quincy Miller exonerated.
They killed one lawyer twenty-two years ago, and they will kill another without a second thought.

Review: Not the best Ive read from John Grishom but good enough. After some of the books Ive read lately, its nice to have a fully developed plot with no inconsistency. The audible narrator is excellent

Title: Not So Little, White Lies
Review: A former clergy collar waring lawyer fights with words to get men off of death-row before time runs out for three men behind bars. the book is fast paces, but you need not be a law student to enjoy this book.I use to read the author's books frequently, until the one book after another appeared similarly to his previously written books. Even one of my favorite writers can get burned-out with constant writing. However, I enjoyed the various characters and their varied backgrounds. For instance, the main character had a background in religion and law. He had a nervous breakdown and turns within. This is current, since everyone is speaking of mental health. Good mental health is as important as a health heart, kidneys, the many organ we relay on to make it to retirement. It was refreshing to read about a next door neighbor, and not the wealthy Techy who makes millions of dollars and does not have to worry about paying his office rent and supporting his car notes. The main character is interesting, because, money does not drive him. He needs a balanced life, but he can't afford one and he is aware of his weak areas.I could hardly put the book down. The book was not action-packed, but fast paced, and kept me guessing. Gresham is an excellent writer and I can tell by his story lines that is well-rounded and can place himself in various individuals shoes. I won't wait another ten years before I start reading his books again. I recommend this book, it is a good summer read.

Title: Not his best
Review: John Grisham has written some wonderful legal novels. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, his latest efforts have been mediocre compared to his earlier works. The Guardians has all the ingredients of a great legal thriller, however, it lacks the fire, originality and great characters of those earlier books. The Guardians tells the tale of Cullen Post, a lawyer/minister pursuing a career as a pro bono lawyer for an innocence project, The Guardians Mission. As one would expect, he lives a life of near poverty while working tirelessly to free innocent prisoners from prison, his only benefit being psychic income. He has a number of cases working at all times and we move from one to the other throughout the book, which can get a little confusing if you read the book, as I did, in short bursts over a period of time. The main story revolves around a questionable murder conviction. It involves corrupt small town local government, a drug cartel, crooked lawyers, witness tampering, evidence theft, etc., all the usual stuff Had Mr. Grisham stuck to this story, with these ingredients and embellished it using his abilities as a fine author I think the book would have been more enjoyable. Instead, we move from case to case with new characters being introduced throughout the book making it difficult to become invested in the central plot or the characters in it. To me, Cullen Post is not a protagonist I really care about and his clients are pitiable people caught in terrible situations, often not of their own making, who are victims of the system. The story doesn't build to a climactic end, rather it just sputters out as justice is served. I'm not compelled to recommend this book as I was with so many of Grisham's earlier novels.
