Title: Bach for Any Mood and Taste
Review: JS Bach composed for almost all instruments, formats and occasions. He wrote so much music that it must seem like a travesty to pack it all into one "Greatest Hits" CD. To the contrary: this CD allows the listener to sample Bach in his wide array of styles and contexts, like tapas or dimsum. You get his rousing orchestral pieces, his choral works, his lovely, sacred songs and his more quiet and contemplative piano music. When you've listened to this entire record, you will gain an appreciation for just how versatile and soulful Bach was. You will also realize just how much he has entered our collective musical consciousness.

Title: the right kind of classical (actually, Baroque) greatest hits album
Review: There are two things you should know before buying a greatest hits album by one of the legendary composers whose music we often call 'classical'.First, the purists hate them. Their ire is understandable. Art music is so enriched by an understanding of its historical moment, its place in a composer's career, the history of its performance, and the like that it seems almost barbaric to strip out a few listen-able tunes and flog them on an album that provides none of this context. These are portions of long pieces, not the four-and-a-half minute stand-alone tunes to which we've become familiar (and learned both to love and to consider normal) in pop music.Second, the big box stores are full of 'greatest hits' albums performed by fourth-tier, no-name orchestral groups with little personality and unrecognizable roots. Don't buy them if your entree into, say, Bach is really an entrance to something larger rather than just a need to fill the house with a little background music (which is not a bad thing on its own terms and beats hearing the doors squeak on their hinges or the frozen pizza sizzle on its lard-ish pan). The Sony Classical series of greatest hits album is not what I've just described. Bach: Greatest Hits is one album of a splendid series with an appealing common genre of artwork, entry-level time lines on the CD liner notes and--here's the Big Thing-selections from the very best performing ensembles in the world. Not *that's* a greatest hits album. If your interest in classical music is at a beginner's stage, buy the whole series. If that's a stretch, you won't regret starting out by snagging Bach: Greatest Hits.Rock on.

Title: Unlike any Bach cd I've heard
Review: I am not a musician, but even my layman's ear can tell this is not your average Bach music cd. In fact, I have never heard these pieces played with such depth and complexity. It's completely transcending. I can't go back to my "generic" Bach cds after listening to this one.

Title: Johann Sebastian Bach Greatest Hits
Review: I like the choice of music on this disc. I find some pieces are better performed than others. I have no musical education so I cannot really give a scholarly evaluation but I love Baroque music and can listen to it for hours.

Title: Teeming with classics
Review: I purchased this for track #10, which I'd happened to hear on the radio...it stayed in my head until I tracked down the CD. I have a relatively basic working knowledge of classical music, so this long playing collection was an excellent and surprising introduction to several of Bach's diverse works...both well known and more obscure. Certainly a worthwhile addition to your classical collection.

Title:
Review: This CD offers excellent value for money and contains 25 recording of works by The Master. For the casual listener it offers an opportunity to sample many of the works of J.S. Bach at a bargain price, However, in common with numerous other Bach CDs, many of the works are played ( or recorded?) at too fast a tempo for the real Bach aficionado to savour the timeless majesty of Bach's work. I suspect that many of the recordings on this CD, like many, many others, have been transcribed from analogue EP/LPs, and the background turntable rumble can clearly be heard on good quality headphones. I have tried for many, many years to find versions of Bach's works which in any way match those on an old and inexpensive 'Bach's Greatest Hits' LP I luckily still have in my possession, but I understand that this has not been transcribed to CD in its entirety. Bach's music is utterly sublime when performed well, The Great Master deserves better!
