A ruse can only last so long…

Tillie Sherbrooke was born a lady, but lost her place in society by her father’s folly. Quiet, resourceful, and loyal, she now makes the perfect lady’s maid for her mistress Sophia. When Sophia's parents give her no choice but to travel across England to be matched with a mysterious young bachelor, Mr. Hill, she has no interest, especially since there are several other ladies vying for him. Who better to send in her place than Tillie? What gentleman would notice a maid, even one disguised as a lady? So when Sophia asks this favor of Tillie, or rather—threatens her into it, Tillie must rely on her past, the life of a proper lady, if she hopes to keep her position at Sedgwick Manor.

Disguised as her mistress, Tillie takes a coach across the country to a new place, one both unfamiliar and frightening. With so much at stake, she does all she can to stay quiet and invisible. But when she inadvertently catches Mr. Hill’s attention, she realizes she may have more to lose than her livelihood. She may very well lose her heart.

The Last Eligible Bachelor is a sweet/clean regency romance stand-alone novel, book two in the Seasons of Change series.

Title: Delightful and Romantic!
Review: Ooh, this was wonderful! Ashtyn Newbold is one of my favorite Regency authors and I thoroughly enjoy her stories, but "The Last Eligible Bachelor" is one of my new favorites from her! I was so looking forward to reading it and, as I hoped, I absolutely adored it! The plot of a maid being forced to assume her mistress’s identity and impersonate her is one I love (hence I used it in my "Goose Girl" retelling), and the way this one unfolded was absolutely delightful.Tillie—a former lady who’s lost her place in society—is forced to take Miss Sophia’s place at a matchmaking party for Mr. Frederick Hill, a charming, handsome, and thoroughly eligible bachelor. As a maid disguised as a lady, Tillie wants nothing more than to remain invisible throughout the charade, but when she inadvertently catches Mr. Hill’s attention, her plans quickly change to doing all in her power to keep herself from losing her heart…a task that proves quite impossible with Mr. Hill’s increasing interest in her.I loved the plot’s premise of Tillie being forced to impersonate her mistress and all the mishaps that follow as she struggles to navigate the masquerade forced upon her, all while resisting falling in love. The plot was thoroughly engaging and her interactions with Mr. Hill wonderful; the scenes with them together were definitely the highlight of the story. The rest of the plot was fun too, especially as several other women were competing for Mr. Hill’s affections, adding some great tension. Normally I struggle with ‘mean girl’ characters, but this aspect was done subtly enough that it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the plot.Tillie was a wonderful character and I really enjoyed her first-person narration. While she appears entirely average according to society’s dictates—she’s no great beauty and lacks in the usual lady-like accomplishments—her strength lies in her character. I so admired her kindness, willingness to make the best of her circumstances, and her gratitude for the blessings she still has in her life. She dealt with her circumstances and challenges in strong yet realistic ways and I really admired her.And Mr. Hill…oh my goodness, I thoroughly adored him! He was thoroughly charming, the embodiment of a true gentleman, with a wonderful sense of humor. Their interactions were such a delight, filled with witty banter, terrific chemistry, great humor, and the loveliest, sweetest romance. It was magical, making this feel very much like the fairy tale it reminded me of, "The Goose Girl".With all the humor and sweetness, I found myself smiling the entire way through this wonderful story. "The Last Eligible Bachelor" is definitely one of Ashtyn Newbold’s best works and a new favorite Regency of mine, one I’ll definitely purchase for my own collection and reread many times over the years.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Title: Fun and surprising!
Review: I read this type of Kindle Unlimited Regency romance in the middle of the night to get through bouts of insomnia. They are mostly very poor imitations of the Queen of Regency Romance, Georgette Heyer, or worse, they are Bridgerton wanna-be’s. But I read this one start to finish in one sitting. The plot is surprising and fun; there are many authentically funny moments; it’s reasonably plausible; and best of all, the prose doesn’t sound fake and stuffy with oddly placed adjectives that no one from that period would actually say. I am going to filter my free Kindle offerings for Ashtyn Newbold and I may actually decide to pay for one of her stories.

Title: Rated PG
Review: This was a fun read. I enjoyed the characters and plot. Things moved along at a good pace, and I was interested to see how everything would work out. I wish there had been more trust between the two main characters, but it all played out really well.*This book is rated PG. There is no swearing, violence, or spice. There are a few mild kisses.

Title: Sweet, clean and charming! Fantastic!
Review: Sweet and funny with swoon worthy romance and toe-curling kisses. There is so much to love about this book! First, the cover is absolutely gorgeous! It portrays the story and characters well, and I quickly discovered that the story was just as beautiful and charming as the cover! Speaking of charming, you'd be hard-pressed to find a hero more charming than Mr. Hill. Goodness gracious! I found myself smiling like a love-struck school girl throughout the entire book. I loved reading the interactions between him and Tillie. Tillie is a fantastic heroine. I love that she is smart and witty, but also kind. I liked that with time she learned to stand up for herself. This is definitely one I want to buy in paperback! (Very soon!) I feel like this is going to be one of those books that I love to go back and read over and over again. Definitely a new favorite! In fact, I had just barely finished it and I found myself wanting to immediately start it over again. So. Good! If you want to do something for yourself, get this book! To the author, this is the first book of yours that I've read, but it definitely will not be my last! I'm so excited to have found your books and I look forward to reading more!

Review: Loved this book and the other 5 I have read. Captivating, heart warming and filled with depth of feeling. Each character is so clearly developed you can see them and hear them speak. Wonderful job. I am a new fan. My pet peeve is grammatical and other glaring errors, as if the work was never proofed. In your case, perfection!

Review: Hopefully not all ladies of the ton were as deceitful, vain and greedy as described in this book. Tilly made me laugh and cry. What a brave character! Such adversity was probably not uncommon. Happy ending though. What a relief! The story was delightful.

Review: This story was just perfect. I tried the sample and as soon as I finished that, bought the full book without hesitation. You can tell good writing when you see it, even if it is so rare to come across these days. The story wasn't predictable, as so many of these stories are, and the main characters actually behaved like adults rather than children. There was deceit in the storyline, of course, but none of that refusal to communicate, and silly overreactions that plague so many of these historical romances. The author knows her stuff, and didn't just fill the story with meaningless drivel. She also is one of those people who manages to write clever, interesting, romantic conversations between characters, which are an absolute pleasure to read.I cried happy tears when I finished it, and was left with that warm glow in my heart and sappy smile lingering on my face that you only get when you read a well-crafted sweet, sweet romance. Thanks for your beautiful story Ashtyn!
