Title: The Bagel Secrets are in this book!
Review: I fell in love with New York bagels after visiting many times in the last 14 years. The only chemical free, hand rolled, New York style bagel I could find is baked 50 miles away from me. I was determined to bake my own so I began researching. My bagels were a miserable failure. I saw this book in my local library a few weeks ago. The book has beautiful photography, wonderful recipes, and simple directions. I went home and ordered the book straightaway. My first attempt produced a fantastic success, almost as good as the hand rolled bagels I had been traveling 50 miles round trip to buy. I am sure I will get better with future batches. I intend to check out Ms. Barrow's other cookbooks. This book has the secrets that I could not find elsewhere, and worth its weight in gold!

Title: Fantastic Book
Review: Over the past couple of years I've become a big fan of the library. I order anything that I have the slightest interest in and as many new cookbooks I can get my hands on. I thought who would write a book on bagels and I didn't think it would be that interesting, plus I do have a stellar bagel recipe I've been using for a few years. So first of all I made the lox and wondered why I have never made it before. It was super easy and turned out delicious. Then I tried the New York bagels and I was hooked. Best bagels I have ever made ... so much for my stellar bagel recipe lol! So in the past couple of months we almost never run out of lox, but I have cut back on bagel making as they are addictive. I renewed the book as many times as I could until it eventually had to go back, but I wasn't done there are so many other recipes I want to try so here I came and bought my own copy. Oh I also want to mention it's not just her recipes that made me want the book it is very well laid out and informative. I'm usually the one who "skips" to recipe but after reading a line or two I wanted to read the rest. Such a wonderful author and cook.

Title: You will sit right down and devour this cookbook!
Review: What is it about this cookbook that makes you feel as if you've entered the world of a friend you've always known? Barrow's tone is conversational, warm, and inviting: she welcomes you into her home and family, where bagels are, of course, the ever-present centerpiece. There are bagel recipes of all sorts, and bialys, granola, and all sorts of luscious spreads, both savory and sweet -- not to mention some standard deli fare like whitefish salad, pickles, and soups like borscht. Did I mention how gorgeous the photography is?? All in all, one of the best cookbooks I've ever owned -- and I own a lot of them! I have been happily perusing its pages since I received it a few days ago, and I look forward to trying the recipes; but for now, just curling up with this "homey" book has made me happy.

Title: What an awesome book!
Review: This wonderful book makes me feel like real bagels are doable at home. Like Cathy's other books, the instructions are clear and well-organized. She makes you feel like your big sister, who is an expert in the kitchen, is standing over your shoulder helping you with each step. The recipes are interspersed with sweet family stories-- a reminder that great foods have great stories. The photos are beautiful, and the graphics help tell the story. For anyone interested in learning to make bagels, or in making creative spreads (schmears) for store-bought bagels, this is a perfect book.

Title: Technically very good, but a lot of less valuable stuff
Review: Overall, I found this book to be half great and half useless. The technical info was great and easy to follow. The design was good, too.But the problems were many: it only accounts for making six bagels and does explain if you can double the recipe or what. There was far too much storytelling and not enough bagel making instruction. Too many salad recipes and bagel recipes that weren’t of much interest to me.Overall, a good book by a pro who knows her stuff. But the content tended to be less engaging that I hoped. I wanted more traditional bagel recipes (i.e., making an dozen) and fewer salads, fruit schmears, or bagel sandwiches.
