With the Bagel Guillotine, you can safely and effortlessly slice your bagels in half. It's so easy, simply place bagel in the slot and push down on the blade. The Bagel Guillotine has a cradle that holds the bagel while two clear acrylic safety shields keep fingers away from the patented bagel piercing blade. Accommodates various sizes of bagels, muffins, buns, and rolls. Features precision ground serrated cutting edges and a Xylan-coated stainless steel blade for smooth slicing and durability.Step One Remove handle portion of the Bagel Guillotine from the base by grasping the top of the handle with one hand and holding the base with the other hand.Step Two Place the bagel the base. Then position the handle directly over the base, with the blade pointing downwards. The handle will 'sleeve' over the base. Push straight down until the handle portion meets the base.Step Three Holding the bottle of the base with one hand, life the handle portion up. Then remove your perfectly sliced bagel. If the bagel sticks, use a utensil to push down of the bagel to lose it.Recommendations Never slice frozen or stale bagels as they will dull the blade. Slice your bagels before you freeze them or thaw frozen bagels before slicing. Steamy, moist or 'sticky' bagels may compress or squash during slicing; allow bagels to cool off before slicing. Flavored bagels may leave a sticky residue on the blade. Regular cleaning allows for the Bagel Guillotine to work at its maximum efficiency.

Title: It's perfect, even for thick bagels!
Review: Years ago, I worked at a cafe where we used a Bagel Biter to cut up the bagels. I always thought it was a brilliant device, but for some reason I only recently thought about actually buying one. Now, obviously you can cut a bagel for free with a knife, but sometimes it's worth a few bucks for convenience. This thing cuts up the thick bagels that we buy from the local grocery store, and it cuts them perfectly every single time. I love it! No more uneven slicing with a knife, no more bread crumbs all over the place. It's easy to clean and easy to use. I highly recommend it!

Title: A useful gadget for arthritis sufferers
Review: This thing really works. As many have said before me, if the bagel is too fat smush it a bit and it will go in. I can use this with my weakene,d arthritic hands. The only kind of bagel that won't work in this slicer is the very fresh. If it's a today bagel it will smush down under the blade into a ball. We freeze the bagels straight from the bakery and for very fresh ones we don't use this. Otherwise it's a great contraption. Easy to clean too. Does make a mess underneath it so use a towel or something to catch the crumbs. Keep out of the reach of kids and incompetent individuals.

Title: More than worth the price. Safely slice bagels.
Review: The Bagel Biter works as advertised. I like mine and should I need a replacement I would look for this model. That said a few things to consider:The blade is SHARP. This is why it works as a good slicer. Come washing time this is a potential problem. I recommend that you use something like a bottle brush, or one of those scrubbers that has a handle. This way you can scrub hard to reach places, even inside the curved blade cover at minimal risk to your fingers. I hesitate to place it into the dish washer because crumbs can get stuck where the machine may not be able to wash. Some other reviewer may want to mention if the materials are dishwasher safe, or if they have been happy using a machine washer.Second most bagel slicers have some kind of shroud or blade cover, this limits the thickness of the bagel that will fit. Be aware that you are going to make a trade of safety for thickness. My clumsy fingers voted for safety.Lastly and again common to this design: These types of slicers `bite' or clamp down on the bagel. If the bagel is soft or at all gummy, it can squash even as it cuts. Trickier, is when one side or both become stuck inside the cover. My solution has been to not bite through the entire bagel and use the uncut part as a hinge. If the bagel is headed to the toaster, you can still cut or tear that last bit.In case I am unclear: I like the Bagel Biter. The issues I raise would be common to any version of this design. Of the other designs I have seen all would have some of the same issues and some would be less protective of your hands.

Title: Great bagel slicer
Review: Have used it only about a month, but we use it frequently and it works great. Slices the bagels cleanly and completely. Some the reviews have complained about the slicer not accommodating larger bagels or "smooshing" the bagels instead of slicing them. I suspect that there are some bagels out there that are too big for this slicer, but it works great for typical sized bagels that you find in chains such as Bruegger's, Panera, etc. The slicing blade is serated and pretty sharp. If this slicer is smooshing your bagel, your bagel is probably softer than a bagel is supposed to be (e.g., those bagels at Costco seem like round pieces of loaf bread).

Title: Almost great.
Review: This is a very sturdy and effective device, but I have issues with getting even halves of bagels. This is often due (I think) to the baking process resulting in unevenly shaped bagels, so it's not like I can really do much about it. Nevertheless, the Bagel Biter works very well - it is easy to cut bagels this way without hurting yourself. You just have to look very carefully when you put your bagel in and try to jog it/rotate it to the orientation that will result in an evenly cut bagel. Next up: get a better toaster that will evenly toast my nicely cut bagel.

Title: Slices Right Through
Review: After cutting my fingers one too many times by using a knife to cut my bagels I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a bagel cutter to see if they really work. And this one does the trick and no more cut fingers! It sliced through the bagel easily with one tiny section not cut because the slicer has a pointed end. The small section that was still connected was easy to pull apart by hand, so it wasn't a problem. Product seems nice and sturdy, easy to do one handed because the base is wide and the handle provides a good grip. The bottom of the base is open so it was easy to wipe up the crumbs from the counter.

Title: Does not work on soft bagels
Review: We finally got around to buying some some bagels and the bagel slicer does not cut them - it just smooshes the bagel down like the blade is dull - Is It because the the mushy bagels baked in Arizona are too soft?Oh well, it is too late to return it so it will go to the yard sale when ever we get past the coronavirus. Back to the bread knife!

Title: Yes, it slices New York bagels
Review: For those who are asking, yes, this slices New York bagels. I don't live in NY any more, but I order my bagels from bagelofthemonth.com (Bagel Boss - look them up if you're missing a *real* NY bagel!) and I bought this specifically to handle those. Once in a while, if you get one that's particularly uneven on one side, it will get slightly smushed (that's a technical term), but in general, it will handle them with no problem, and cut them very evenly. I am very happy with my purchase!
