Title: More ideas than you've ever thought of!
Review: This great book is more about inspiration and ideas than recipies. although it is full of recipies of course. I had an old bottle of liquid smoke in the refrigerator and really didn't know what to do with it. The gist of the introduction in the book was "be brave" and learn how to use it. Outdoor grilling is a fun hobby to be sure, (all those manly tools, caveman fire, gadgets, secret rubs and sauces) and outdoor food tastes great, but unless you have someone in your family who really loves to fuss over a hot grill all the time, this is really an amazing way to cook flavorful "grilled" food indoors, even when it's snowing outside! The authors insist that most people can't tell the difference between indoor and outdoor pulled pork for example. So, have you ever thought of adding a little smoke to tarter sauce? How about potato salad? Egg salad? Brushing it on ribs and putting them on the rotisserie is terrific. (Showtime rotisserie)Ronco ST4023SSGEN Showtime Standard Rotisserie, Stainless Steel. Brisket and pulled pork are just too good for words. Either oven baked, in a slow cooker, or on the rotisserie, the addition of liquid smoke to your meats will make you think twice about going to all the trouble of "firing up the grill", unless of course you have company coming and like the ambiance and party like atmosphere of outside grilling. So, to divulge one of the bits of information in this book, they rated several brands of liquid smoke. I had aready purchased three other brands to test against the one I had. I agreed with their assessment. Wrights liquid smoke was the best tasting. Others had added ingredients like sugar etc. and Wrights was pure smoke. Google how its made for a bit of a learning experience. I just grilled some home made sourdough bread on a cast iron grill pan, and brushed it with a mixture of melted butter, parmesian cheese and a bit of smoke. Think paninis! Vegetables tossed with any of their marinades, rubs and sauces will also be a welcome feature of any meal. Finally, I just have to spill another couple secrets.,..Toasted marshmallow sauce, cookie sheet s'mores, and smoky chocolate brownies. Recipes in the book.

Title: BBQ at 20 below anyone?
Review: I bought this book when we moved to the Anchorage, AK area. This delightful book gives many recipes and suggestions to allow you to cook BBQ indoors. Some recipes are for items you don't think of as BBQ, like carne adovada, Asian honey lacquered chicken. Includes recipes for sides. This is great for those of us with severe winters. Also great for the "put it in the crock pot in the morning" crowd.I liked the book enough that this copy was purchased for one of my kids.

Title: BBQ tips you will use, whether you're skilled or a novice
Review: Australians BBQ all the time, but typically we don't take the care and attention to the long BBQ process - hours of gently coaxing flavors from a side of meat. This is something Americans are expert at.Increasingly Aussies are buying the traditional smoking BBQs, but with a sizable investment in the 5 burner all stainless with wok and rotisserie, the smoker is an afterthought. Enter the cheats BBQ - all the flavor and none of the fuss. The Cheats BBQ book is written by guys who really love the outcome and don't rely on traditional methods to get it - this is very Aussie - Don't stand on tradition, get the job done. The purist won't like that they do employ a lot of "liquid smoke" a natural product derived from burning wood, but a beautiful cheat in anyone's language.Reading through the book, and it is a book with some recipes, you get an understanding for the passion that Merrill and Quinn have for their cooking. This provides confidence in the recipe from people who know what it should taste like. They build the recipe to taste as good or better than the accepted best.I highly recommend BBQ Cheat to anyone who is not getting the flavors they expected, or to anyone who simply does not have the time or inclination to spend hours cooking.

Title: Great for condo living
Review: We love this book. We live in a San Francisco high-rise condo. Instead of a big backyard, we have a narrow 18 square foot patio that, frankly, we didn't want to clutter up with a grill. One day, I pulled out a crock pot my mother gave me years ago. I'd never used until I saw these authors on an afternoon TV show. We bought the book and have been experimenting with it ever since. We've had several people over to watch college football (Mizzou-RAH!) and have had chicken wings and thighs, beef brisket and more. Who knew all you needed was a crock pot and some liquid smoke?!?!? We got friends interested and are going to get them each a book for Christmas. The book is easy. We especially like it because it's not fancy -- it includes ingredients we can get at Safeway!

Title: This is a great book for beginners!
Review: I have been making pulled pork BBQ for years but always bought sauce, this book contains easy to make great tasting BBQ sauces that I have made and servered and gotten great raves over. Anyone can toss a hunk of meat in an oven, slow cooker or grill and cook it until its done but it takes more than that to make BBQ. I have learned about Rubs and sauces that have taken my slow cooked/grilled offerings and turned them into savory/sweet wonders.I was always leary about making rubs and sauces until I read through this and saw that some of my favorite down home tastes were easy to replicate, didn't even have to cook some of them, just put the ingredients in a jar, put on the lid and shake.by taking these recipes and putting my own twist on them I can now have my own secret sauces.

Title: Worthwhile Investment
Review: If you are like me, you try to limit the number of cookbooks you buy. However, I'm pleased to have added this one to my collection. I've made three recipes to date dry rubs, ribs, and chicken. Looking forward to further experimenting with liquid smoke so far so good.
