Johnstone Justice. Get It While It’s Hot.
Dewey “Mac” Mackenzie is no ordinary chuckwagon cook. He’s a marked man on the run who works cattle drives to stay one step ahead of his enemies. If these hired killers catch up to him, he’ll be slinging guns instead of hash—with a side order of revenge that’s best served cold . . .
HOT BISCUITS. COLD GRAVES.
A hot meal, a hard drink, and maybe a friendly hand of poker—that’s all Mac Mackenzie wants when he drifts into the small town of Harcourt City, Montana. What he gets is a fistful of trouble. When he defends a saloon girl from the unwanted advances of some local toughs, he earns the wrath of the town’s powerful namesake, Oscar Harcourt. Harcourt rules this place with an iron fist—and a steely eyed gang of thugs. Now he has his eyes on a ranch belonging to the saloon girl and her brother. A ranch they won’t give up—without a fight.
To raise funds, the brother and sister arrange a cattle drive to Rattlesnake Creek, and they want Mac to join them. As an experienced cattle pusher and chuckwagon cook, he’s sure to be an asset. But as a secret gunslinger with a price on his head, he might end up getting them all killed.
Now the cattle are ready to go. Mac is ready for anything. But with so many devils ridng on their tails, Mac is ready to turn up the heat—and send them back to hell . . .

Title: Western trail commotion!
Review: Will Dewey âMacâ Mackenzie ever get a decent nightâs sleep, or will people always be pursuing him? Macâs adventures started in the first book titled, The Chuckwagon Trail. Audiences learn what started Macâs running from trail drive to trail drive for many different cattle owners as their trail cook. Mac has learned not only how to cook with next to nothing but also how to defend himself and others from those wanting to take what isnât theirs. The newest addition to the Chuckwagon Trail series is an enjoyable read as we watch Mac drifting then stepping in to help a lady from being mishandled. From there, Mac receives more than he gives which causes him to have to remain in bed healing on the Standing L Ranch. When owners take a shine to his quick thinking, wit and good cooking, Mac is once again tasked with being a chuckwagon driver. Mac has made enemies once again and it looks like a threat from the past, who goes by the name LeClec, may just catch up to Mac and extract vengeance! The herd is being driven to a boom town where the owners, Becky and Marcus, hope to sell at a good price and save the ranch their parents left to them. The big bull of the woods who wants all he can grab is a man by the name of Oscar Harcourt. He takes over anything money can buy, or his men can ramrod for him. Harcourt sends men out after the Standing L drive to harangue them as they travel, which boxes in the Standing L cattle and crew between a rock and a hard place. Romance once again might be in Macâs future, if he ever felt he had one. With the past still dogging his trail, Mac isnât sure if he and Becky have a future or if he is ready for one! The crew on the cattle drive is small but mighty and they have grit to face those coming to take what the Standing L owns.Once again, the Johnstone pen brings to audiences a novel filled with western trail drive dangers and intrigues along with friendship and budding romance. If you havenât read the other novels in the series, I recommend you do. While each book can be read as a stand-alone, much can be said for reading the books in order. I enjoyed watching the overall story develop when Mac is accused of an action he didnât commit in New Orleans. The main character, âMacâ, is one to admire for his tenacity, quick thinking, good cooking and making friends that stand against evil. I hope the author plans on bringing more of Mac to readers as he sure is exciting!Grab a book and read the others in the series starting with The Chuckwagon Trail, Die by the Gun, and Hill of Beans! Saddle up and ride!

Title: A Review of Biscuits and Gravy (Book 4 of a Chuckwagon Trail)
Review: This is a continuing story of Mac MacKenzie, falsely accused of murder, trying to steer clear of all the bounty hunters trying to kill him or take him in. After leaving the last trail drive he ends up in the town of Harcourt where he makes some immediate friends by stopping a cowboy from punching Becky Lewis in the face. Shortly afterwards he heads back to his hotel and is beaten badly by the very same toughs he had accosted in the saloon earlier. With broken ribs and a concussion he is taken to the Lewis ranch to heal. Once healed he volunteers to help them take their cattle to Rattlesnake Creek to sell. Then the problems and trials for all of them begin. Quite the well written story and a treat to read.

Title: Another great book
Review: I'm just amazed at how much action and adventure the author is able to pack in one story. His plots and storylines keep on getting better and better. I'm kind of sad to start book five as it is the last one in this series but yet look forward to the adventure it will take me on.

Title: Another complicated cattle trail
Review: Biscuits and Gravy by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is another great western with Mac Mackenzie in the lead. Once again he gets involved in a cattle trail and has to avoid getting caught up with the troubles that started in New Orleans. This adventure has all the parts that make up a traditional western, good guys and bad guys and shootouts. What I found good in this series is the weight on the chuckwagon driver. It is always great when a new angle on the old west is presented. As always I must thank @kensingtonbooks @netgalley #Pinnacle for giving me this advance copy and @williamw.j.a.johnstone for writing it. #NetGalley #Kensington #BiscuitsAndGravy #WilliamWJohnstone #JAJohnstone #Western #aChuckwagonTrail

Review: As far as western novels are concerned, people expect more action, gun fights, lightening draws. But this inspitd of its promise of high action, it is a bit on the slow side. Nevertheless readable and enjoyable
