“Baldwin has a winning series here: her characters are intriguing and fully rendered.” –Booklist“I am in love with the Stranje House novels. Seriously, in love.” –Book Briefs
It’s 1814 in this Alternate History Spy Romantasy.
Secretly trained for the perilous world of spies, diplomacy, and war, the extraordinary young women of Stranje House face a dire threat. They must find a way to thwart Napoleon’s ruthless band of assassins and spies and stop his looming invasion. But a traitor within Stranje House jeopardizes everything.
Lady Jane’s relentless pursuit of the traitor ensnares the young American inventor, Alexander Sinclair, in a deadly ambush. His design of a steam-powered warship for Britain is at stake. The quick-witted young American may have appalling manners and is forever teasing Lady Jane, but he also understands her as no one else ever has. Lady Jane cannot bear the thought of anyone harming the golden-haired genius.
If only she was the brilliant strategist Miss Stranje insists she is. Everything rides on this game they are playing, and Lady Jane must prove herself enough of a mastermind to save Alexander, her friends at Stranje House, and even England itself.
The stakes in this game are life, death, and love.
Fans of Gail Carriger’s Etiquette & Espionage and Nancy Springer’s Enola Holmes series will love this Alternate History Romantasy, and delight in its daring heroines, handsome young lords, and dastardly villains.
“…a must-have for teen libraries.” —School Library Journal

Title: Another fabulous book from this historical espionage series!
Review: 4.5 StarsREFUGE FOR MASTERMINDS is a steadily moving historical romance with delightful characters, plenty of danger, and a well plotted story that is sure to engage the reader from beginning to end. Highly recommended to historical romance readers who enjoy the mix of espionage and a boarding school to London setting!I love this series! I particularly loved the banter between Jane and Alexander in this third book. It was so much fun and definitely made me laugh. They were both marvelous characters! I also adored their romance. Then there were the other characters, particularly these girls who have become like sisters. They have their own strengths and weaknesses and love interests, and care deeply for each other.I love that each of the books in this series focuses more on one of the Stranje girls, but still weaves in all the characters and an overarching plot as they face Napoleon and his spies. The plot had some adventure and action, as well as a fairly constant feel of danger. The ending was climatically intense, as to be expected, and I loved how it all came together. It also concluded with a decent resolution while also leading quite nicely to the next book, which I am highly anticipating! My only grievance would be that I didn't completely understand Jane's misgivings in trusting Miss Stranje. I also was a little confused by her not taking advantage of dismissing a contract until later on for some misguided reason or other. At least she figured things out in time.In the end, was it what I wished for? This was another fantastic read and addition to this series! I enjoyed it from beginning to end!Content: Some violence, but clean.Source: I received a complimentary ARC from the publisher through Book Unleashed, which did not require a review nor affect it in any way.

Title: Another winner!
Review: I was not sure that I would like Jane's story. But I absolutely loved everything about this book. Jane and Alexander's relationship progressed nicely. I particularly liked the interaction between the two--he definitely loved pushing her buttons. The book even had some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I do hope that this IS NOT the end to this series. Sera and Maya deserve their own books and their romantic interests appear to have been introduced. Besides, Ms. Stranje needs closure with her captain. I can't wait to see what this author writes next! I'll be signing up to purchase whatever comes out.....

Title: Masterful...!
Review: Another winner! Can I just say how much I love first person writing??!?!?! It is fascinating, in a series such as this one, to get the "inside scoop" on what is really going on in each of the girls' brains. So much fun. I am really enjoying how each book puts the focus on one of the girls and how they got to be where they are today. The stories are brilliantly interwoven and make each girl shine. Along with the lovely ladies are the swoon-worthy men. Each is unique and perfectly suited for their "unusual" girl. The author excels at the #FlirtingNotFlirting that takes place and the conversations make this old lady blush with anticipation.I am really enjoying this series and know that it will be one of the few book series that I will HAVE TO revisit when the series ends, just so I can relive all the magic again. 😉

Title: Love this series!
Review: Sex: none. A little chaste kissingProfanity: almost noneViolence: mildWriting quality: excellent (I donât say that often)While I donât love this book as much as the first two, Baldwinâs writing makes it a pleasure to read. The plot thickens as the Iron Crown tried to capture the steam boat out the man who invented it.My only complaint is the major plot flaw involving a certain traitor. (Spoiler) If they wanted to pretend that one of their own girls was a traitor, they obviously wouldnât treat her as if nothing had changed. By continuing to included her in all their plans, as they did, they real traitor should have gotten suspicious.I wish the author had addressed this issue as it would have made the plot more realistic for me. But, as good as this series is, Iâm not going to quit now. I still highly recommend it.

Title: Kathleen showcases the ingenuity of women
Review: I may be older than the target audience for Kathleen Baldwin's books, but I enjoy her stories, her historical research and her characters very much. I look forward to her books, and have a hard time putting them down. Each volume focuses on one of the young women at Miss Stranje's school, her particular gift, and how she uses her gift to help keep England out of the clutches of Napolean and his followers. There is so much more I could say, but having read Georgie's, Tess's and Lady Jane's stories, I am anxious to see what Sera and Maya will add, and how the young women of Miss Stranje's school will defeat Lady Daneska, Ghost and Napolean.

Review: As cover, headmistress Miss Stranje decides to host a coming-out ball for the young ladies in London so they can investigate and prevent potential threats that might endanger England. Will they be able to protect Alexander and his ship from Napoleon's deadly spies? The chase is exciting and the romance is sweet! I love the overlap of characters and how the girls are growing.

Title: Love this series !
Review: Smart, strong heroines are always fun to read about. Add in the interesting eccentricities of each young woman, their evolving teamwork and national security skullduggery of the British variety and you have an absorbing historical mystery.I am eager for the next adventure to begin. Too bad months of writing can be read in a few hours! Authors can't keep up with their fans appetites for more.
