Everyone agreed that Francesca was a model daughter. Quiet, obedient, a good student, she never caused her parents a moment's worry. And then one day her mother noticed that Francesca seemed to be losing weight -- a lot of weight. Francesca was ordered to stop dieting immediately, but still she wouldn't eat. And then the nightmare began, because Francesca was starving herself to death.

In this riveting story of a young girl's self-destructive obsession, author Steven Levenkron draws an accurate and moving portrait of one of the most fascinating and horrifying psychological disorders of our time -- anorexia nervosa, a disease that strikes one out of every three hundred teenage girls. THE BEST LITTLE GIRL IN THE WORLD is a representative case history of one girl afflicted by this shocking and compelling psychological disturbance.

Title: I would recommend as a good read
Review: I have not read this book in years it was an amazing book! The rewrite was peculiar because there were quite a few words that were either misplaced or misspelled so the proofreader didn't really do their job. I am not the language police I just found it amusing. There were aspects of the original book that were better than this one like Francesca's friend she met in the hospital that died in the original book and it didn't have it in this one. They didn't climb inside the girl's head like the first book the first book was incredibly intense this was a good read but not as intense.

Title: Good Book About a Hard Topic
Review: I loved this movie as a pre-teen. After watching recently as an adult, I became intrigued by the book. It was well written and does a good job explaining what happens in the mind of teenager with an eating disorder. It does a good job of explaining how the perceived image an anorexic has when they look in the mirror is what causes them to have this illness. It isn't just about extreme dieting. I deducted a star only because it did tend to drag out the last couple of chapters. If you liked the movie, I recommend reading the book. I think you'll find additional insight that you didn't pick up on in the movie.

Title: Wonderful book
Review: This book bought tears to my eyes and cheering on Kessa to get better! WTG Kessa! I was happy to read her family along with Kessa making amends and being happier together. Good old Dr. Sherman too

Title: Touches on perceptions of one's body
Review: I thought this was an okay fictional book, although a little corny with the dialogue and some of the situations in the book, I felt that the book really attempted to put the seriousness of eating disorders up front. I like how the author made the character Francesca's eating disorder a mental disorder too. I've never had an eating disorder so I don't know what goes through the mind of a person who is suffering from an eating disorder. For the author to give Francesca a mental disorder that came about from her eating disorder made it easier for me to have sympathy for Francesca's disorder as she struggled to understand why and how she was punishing herself. Francesca's disorder was not about refusing to eat to lose weight so much as it was about the thoughts in her head and how she formed a warped perception of herself.

Title: a very frank book about a serious problem
Review: This is the the kind of of must read book every teen should have. If I were a health teacher I would even fight to include in the school curriculum. Many young people see their bodies in a distorted image. They believe themselves fat when there is no truth to it. Some turn to eating disorders like anorexia. This book takes you through the self image of a young girl with this disorder. It is written like a fictional story, but all facts are correct not fabricated. The reader will be be able to understand the characters thoughts, need for control, and each stage her body goes through. The book also explains what medical interventions would become necessary with each stage.

Title: Very Substantial, Great Writing!
Review: I enjoyed this book immensely and would recommend highly. I am reading Kessa, the sequel, now. I was afraid the book would seem dated, but the way the issues evolve, it could be anytime. There are very few markers for time period. Nevertheless, you realize how far some forms of treatment have come.At the core of this book is the relatioship between Kessa and Sandy. That's the reason I read it. It's two people who work hard together. It never ceases to amaze me how much humans can add to each others' lives.

Title: Very Good Read
Review: This book explores the very nature behind this complex disease. At the time the book was published not many people knew what anorexia even was. The author does a fantastic job describing the psychology and compulsions behind this illness. It was nice getting to see the other characters' point of views as well.

Title: A must read for anyone interested in Anorexia Nervosa.
Review: I originally read this book back in the 80's when I was in junior high school. I decided to download it and read it again. This is a must read for anyone who is dealing with anorexia or is just interested in it. It is told from the point of view of the 15 year old main character Kessa. It takes you deep into her mind and psyche and gives a glimpse into what is a horrible disease.

Review: Absolutely amazing, I couldn't put it down!! I haven't finished any book this fast for a long time, as someone who suffers from ED although not anorexia, made me feel less alone.

Review: At first I thought it was some cliché stereotype about eating disorders, and it kind of is, but seeing Kessa's improvement and progress really hit the nail on the head.

Review: Absolutely fabulous! If you've ever met someone/are related to someone/or if you are someone who has/is suffering from and eating disorder or even if you're studying the topic, it's definitely a must read. Gives a thorough and interesting view point from all people involved (the sufferer, parents, siblings, relatives, friends, doctors etc). The book doesn't drag, yet doesn't skip important parts. It's a roller coaster of tears and smiles reading this book, totally worth it. Would even consider reading again.
