Cornwall, 1934.
Violet Ellis is living in the shadows of her father’s ruined reputation. So, when wealthy widower James Atherton offers her employment, she immediately begins the treacherous journey to his home on the remote Cornish island of Aoife’s Bay – despite the bone-chilling allegations surrounding his late wife Elizabeth’s death.
In James’s company, Violet begins to feel the love that has been missing all her life. But when anonymous letters start to plague the bay’s residents, threatening to expose what really happened to Elizabeth, Violet feels the hostility towards her grow. She has an unsettling sense of being watched in her new home, and as the mysteries of the island draw her in, she starts to fear she might never find a way out …
Sweeping across London, Oxford and the wilds of the West Country, this novel is perfect for fans of Santa Montefiore, Louise Douglas and Lucinda Riley.

Title: I Could Not Put It Down
Review: This novel truly was amazing. All the characters, even those with minor parts, felt real. The romance was sweet and tender, the pace of the novel constant, the gothic touch was not overdone. It was reminiscent of a Daphne Du Maurier novel. The machinations of the villain protagonist are a bit of a stretch, but still, it all leads to a satisfactory conclusion. And like the characters in the book, I felt relief when the worst was over and it was time to move forward. This book had no other purpose than to entertain and it certainly achieved its goal.

Title: But with a villain more evil than Rebecca, herself...
Review: I was happy to read that others also felt this work is reminiscent of Daphne De Maurier's REBECCA, the godmother of the gothic novel. It is, however, far more complicated with many more characters than REBECCA, and contains a villain more evil than Rebecca, herself, could have imagined. I thoroughly enjoyed SECRETS OF THE WATCH HOUSE and look forward to reading other books by Jenny Ashcroft.

Title: Good read, but rather long
Review: I was doing well reading this until the original "lady" came back into the picture toward the end. After that it should have ended, but was muddled for me....easy to read....ending good, but I was angry with the mess before the ending

Title: Riveting
Review: This was one of the best books that I've read in a long time. It reminded me of the old "Rebecca" movie with Laurence Olivier. It kept me interested and glued to the page the whole time. The characters were well-formed and exciting.
