Everyone loves fresh bread, but not the time it takes to make it. Bread machines are hot items in the kitchen because they take the work out of making homemade bread. Even better, Betty Crocker takes the mystery out of the bread machine and brings you easy-to-use recipes for both 1 1/2-pound and 2-pound loaves that work for all the popular bread machine models. We've packed this book with over 100 recipes to tempt your tastebuds. There are delicious bread recipes for classic favorites, rustic breads, sweet doughs, coffeecakes and buns. Betty Crocker's Bread Machine Cookbook also offers a host of recipes for doughs to mix, then shape and bake in a conventional oven -- such as foccacia, breadsticks and pizza doughs -- with easy-to-follow illustrations on how to shape and trim the loaves. Best of all, you can trust these recipes will work in your bread machine because the Betty Crocker kitchens have tested the recipes in several different machines to ensure success at home. We've also loaded up this book to include information on bread machine ingredients; glossary of bread machine ingredients, techniques, and terms; and a breakdown of the various features found on different models of machines and how to use them. There's nothing better than the taste of homemade bread -- and no one brings it to you better than Betty Crocker.

Title: Might be the best book on the subject.
Review: I ran across my old breadmaker in my storage locker (apparently I got it in the divorce). It had only been used once or twice ten years ago using the pre-mixed bread kits(?) and the machine's instructions are missing now so I needed a good book to get me started with it. I ordered the Betty Crocker book based on good experiences with their cookbooks in the past. After I ordered it, I looked a little more carefully at some of the other books and saw that the Beth Hensperger book seems to be generally considered the "best" book on making bread with a bread machine so, being a book buying idiot, I ordered that one also.Got the Betty Crocker one first and started right in... It told me everything I needed to know to launch my bread machine without a manual. My very first loaf was a semi-flop but the troubleshooting guide in the book clearly illustrated my mistakes to me. I have used at least a dozen different recipes since and made more than one loaf of bread from several of them and each time they have come out perfect. They have all been easy to make and very tasty. The book is laid out well, is easy to read and being spiral bound, lays open flat so you never lose your page while you're using both hands with the ingredients. The Hensperger book may very well be the best book but it could be months before I can confirm that. In skimming through that book, I find the recipes to be a bit more esoteric and special ingredient intensive than this one. Also, the Hensperger book is a big thick paperback (think Shogun) that won't lay open without assistance and possibly won't hold up to my ingredient flinging cooking style the way the Betty Crocker books with their glossy pages do.Conclusion: If this book isn't the best bread machine cookbook, it is all you'll need for a good long time and will present you with success after success. You can transition to the Hensperger book when your breadmaking moves from fun hobby to artform... that's my plan anyway.

Title: Tasty but lacking in one area
Review: This book is very well-written. The chapters are clearly organized, the recipes are very easy to follow, the paper used in the book is fairly thick and sturdy, and the photos are great. One reviewer stated that every recipe has a photo of the finished product. That's not true. I don't have the book in front of me, but I'm guessing that one in three recipes has an associated photo. The photos are artistically done and I can honestly say my mouth watered at one point simply from looking at the pictures! At this point i have tried 3 recipes: honey whole wheat, onion vinaigrette, and honey mustard. They've each turned out perfectly--no sunken loaves, great texture, perfect density, etc. The final chapter has loaves you can make using the dough cycle only, so you have to take out the dough after your bread machine mixed and kneaded it. Normally, i wouldn't even look at that chapter because I want the bread machine to do it all. However, the pictures of the bread look so good and due to my new excitement of baking bread, i figured i could have fun actually shaping dough and baking it in the oven. So i bought a dough board, a rolling pin, etc. Looking forward to using it!The only thing i find lacking in this book is a chapter on quick bread recipes for the bread machine. There are plenty of quick bread recipes using the dough cycle only, but i would have liked to see 5 or 6 recipes exclusively for the bread machine, from start to finish. There's not even a banana bread recipe, something i know a bread machine can easily handle. That's the only reason I'm rating this book a 4 instead of a 5.One negative review stated that the recipes in this book are bland and not very flavorful. I disagree. So far, the breads are 3 for 3 for good taste. I brought a loaf of the honey wheat bread to work and they all loved it, even inspiring a coworker to buy a bread machine and this same book. The recipes are fairly simple. Some recipes require you to buy some pretty expensive herbs, like taragon, but the majority of the recipes use ingredients you should already have at home, or that don't cost a fortune to purchase. One other thing about the recipes. The Betty Crocker people tested all of their recipes beforehand, which is probably why all of my loaves have turned out perfectly. They even figured out that a 2-lb loaf doesn't always require more yeast than a 1.5-lb loaf. In fact, there are a couple of recipes that use LESS yeast in the 2-lb loaf than in the 1.5-lb loaf. I never would have guess that, and i appreciate the good folks at Betty Crocker taking the time to figure that out for me. The recipes in the book were tested with quick acting yeast, aka bread machine yeast. But if you have active dry yeast, which is what i use, the book gives you a conversion table from bread machine yeast to active dry yeast. For example, 1.5 tsp of bread machine yeast = 2 tsp. of active dry yeast. Pretty simple stuff. In one of the recipes i used, it calls for 2 tsp of bread machine yeast, so you'd think you'd have to use about 2.5 tsp of regular active dry yeast. But i just used 2 tsp of active dry yeast, and the loaf came out perfectly. So if i can give you a suggestion, i'd say not to use more than 2 tsp of any kind of yeast for any of the recipes. The chapter for smaller loaves includes recipes for 1 lb and 1.5 lbs. So don't forget to read that chapter if you want additional recipes for a 1.5-lb loaf. That's all I have to say. Enjoy!

Title: Fresh bread!
Review: The book that came with the machine only had a couple pages.. So I sent for this! Is came out when bread machines were new.. It is a good book , lot of good recipes.. Even room at the bottom of the page to put down notes! I've been trying several of them. Vanilla sour cream is oh so good And the rye bread's even better. Also. How to do rustic bread taking dough out early! LOVE THIS BOOK!I still have my Betty Crocker.Cookbook from the seventies.

Title: A Little Disappointed
Review: The recipes and pictures are good and I look forward to trying quite a few. My disappointment comes with how old a version it is. My book is new but the publish date is 1999! Amazon stated 2002. Many, many pages were difficult to turn at the spiral side (and I really like spiral bound cookbooks). I had to be VERY careful so that I didnât rip any pages.I decided to keep the book as it was a great price and keep trying out recipes. I basically use my bread machine to make the doughs and free form the loaves and bake in the oven.

Review: This cookbook is full of helpful information for beginners, and features pages about humidity, sea-level, the best and worst types of flours, yeast substitutions, as well as depictions of common mistakes and outcomes supplied helpfully by pictures. There are tips and suggestions with every recipe, and sometimes even a companion recipe, such as a spread, or sandwich combination. The recipes look fantastic, and I just pulled a coffee cake out of the oven, and couldn't be happier with my purchase! Money well spent!

Review: I needed a good bread book for my bread maker. As I had always loved Better Crocker, I knew that was the brand I wanted. But I was very unsure about having one on my Kindle. I am now so glad that I took the "plunge". Not only do I have a great cookbook, but when I travel to see my daughter, I have recipes with me that just at the touch of a button! Fresh bread will travel!
