Title: A Real Treasure!
Review: I ordered this DVD when it first came out and I've been enjoying it ever since. All the performances are enjoyable- some more than others, but they are all wonderful nonetheless. Some of my pesonal favorites include: Patti Lupone bringing down the house along with Mandy Patinkin and Bob Gunton doing the song "A New Argentina" from Evita. This is definately one of my top 5 favorites on this DVD. Anegela Lansbury providing a hilarious performance in "The worst Pies in London" from Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Carol Channing singing the nothing-less-than inspirational "Before the Parade Passes By" from Hello, Dolly! Yul Brynner performing "Shall We Dance?" with his co-star (not sure of her name). This performance is priceless and so is that dress! John Raitt's beautiful baritone voice soars in this song-"Hey There" from The Pajama Game Paul Lynde delivers a ton of laughs in "Kids" from Bye Bye Birdie Joel Grey and cast perform the spectacle that is Cabaret in the song "Willkommen". This song never gets out of your head! Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera- two of Broadway's top leading ladies come together and perform two wonderful songs from Chicago: "All That Jazz" and "Nowadays". Bob Fosse's coreography can never get old and is dispalyed in this performance for your full enjoyment. Jerry Orbach. His death was a tragic loss to the theater. That's why these DVD's are so remarkable. This is another top performance- the song "Lullaby of Broadway" from 42nd Street. It was this performance that inspired me to save up and go to NYC to see my very first broadway show- 42nd Street. Andrea McArdle and the orphans perform "Tomorrow" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" from Annie. This is just superb. There's absolutely no flaws. Betty Buckley and cast perform two songs from Cats-"Jellicle Songs" and the classic "Memory". It is stunning to watch. Any performance with Patti LuPone in it is a gem in itself. This one- "Buenos Aires" from Evita shows off her powerful set of pipes and shows the other side of the character of Eva Peron. Bonnie Franklin and cast are hilarious in the song"Applause" from the show Applause. The whole theme to the song is 100% true and kind of "hits home" for every actor. Plus, it has parodies of other classic musicals that will have you rolling on the floor in laughter if you're a big fan of musicals. All in all, this DVD is totally worth buying! And after you're through with this one and have memorized all the songs, check out Broadway's Lost Treasures II. I have yet to receive III, but I am looking forward to it!

Title: Reliving Great B'way Memories
Review: In "Broadway's Lost Treasures I" we get a chance to see some of the finest Broadway performances in color and in brilliant clarity with the original stars. Various hosts (Angela Lansbury, Joel Grey, Tommy Tune, Jerry Orbach, and Chita Rivera) introduce the twenty-three musical numbers. Some of the numbers were done with very large supporting casts. My favorites were Angela Lansbury singing in her Cockney accent and in the most macabre make-up imaginable about the worst pie-maker in all of London from "Sweeney Todd", and Carol Channing singing and meaning "Before the Parade Passes By" from "Hello Dolly".Also I loved Zero Mostel singing and clowning through "If I Were a Rich Man" from "Fiddler on the Roof" as well as Yul Brynner doing "Shall We Dance" from "The King and I". No one ever beat Robert Preston's take on "Trouble in River City" from "The Music Man."Paul Lynde is hilarious in a shortened version of "Kids" from "Bye Bye Birdie". Joel Grey as the M.C. in "Cabaret" leads a large cast in "Wilkommen". He says the horrible mask-like face echoed Hitler. Later versions of this show portrayed the M.C. as a gay Jew and a victim.Chita Rivera and Gwen Verdon do a great job with "All that Jazz" from "Chicago" while Jerry Orbach does a masterful job with the anthem "Lullaby of Broadway from "42nd Street". Other noteworthy numbers were "Tomorrow" from "Annie" and "Memories" from "Cats.I wasn't overly impressed by Julie Andrews's rendition of "Send in the Clowns" from "A Little Night Music." She has a certain coldness and emotional detachment that doesn't suit this charged song. Currently on Broadway Roberta Peters is wowing audiences with her interpretation of the song in the 2010 revival. I love Patti LuPone, but her two outings on the disk from "Evita" seemed over-the-top, more shouting than singing.Composers and lyricists get short shrift in this compilation. The emphasis is on the performers.Some interesting facts that emerged from the show: Jerry Orbach was a star in more performances of American musicals than any other actor. John Raitt, the baritone, had six decades of performances beginning with "Carousel." Joel Grey and Yul Brynner were two of only seven actors that won Tonys and Oscars for their roles on Broadway and in the movie version.This DVD will bring back many memorable moments for veteran theatergoers.

Title: An intriguing DVD for fans of musical theatre
Review: If you're a fan of musical theatre, you're almost guaranteed to find something you like on this DVD. Although the presentation is cheesy (with some awful bluescreen effects), the musical numbers themselves are entertaining.Highlights include Patti LuPone in Evita, Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera in Chicago and Bonnie Franklin in Applause. But for me, as a fan of both the musical theatre and science fiction, the higlight was seeing a young Nana Visitor (Major Kira on Star Trek Deep Space Nine) dance her little heart out in an impressive dance number from My One and Only. In this particular number, you will also see a less than comfortable Twiggy trying to keep up with the rest of the dancers. She looks so out of place next to Tommy Tune.One of the few performances I didn't like was Betty Buckley singing Memory from Cats. Her singing was okay, but I just didn't buy her as a "cat"...Other than that, this DVD should warm the hearts of musical lovers around the world!
