Title: Amazing bi-directional scan tool for the price! Worked great for 8th gen civic!
Review: I'm the family mechanic and I pride myself on my ability to properly troubleshoot and fix my families cars while saving cash and ensuring the job is done right the 1st time! I purchased this tool primarily because I needed to clear stored learned data in the PCM/ECM on a 2006 Honda Civic EX (Sedan), but also because I've been wanting a bi-di diag tool for years! I called multiple shops in my area, including the Honda dealer to get this simple task completed. The two independent shops I called could not help me. One said their "Launch" brand diag tool was broken and awaiting warranty repair. The other shop didn't even want to attempt the job since I had done a lot of recent service work on the vehicle myself. The dealership service department claimed this year/model Honda didn't support such a feature. They wanted $200.00 just for a system diagnostic before they would even recommend a solution. Nothing but incompetence and I was beyond irritated at this point and done asking others to do the job. I found out about XTOOL through various YT car channels I follow as well as recommendations and discussions on vehicle forums. I decided to give it a shot after reaching out to XTOOL sales asking which model supported the feature I needed for the PCM/ECM stored data reset/clear on a Honda. I received a response within a few hours and purchased the D8. Out of the box, the system came nearly fully charged and was easy to get setup. I downloaded all the updates, which took about an hour (over 100 packages!). It connected straight up to my Honda and communicated with the PCM/ECM without issue. Right away I noticed this tool is fast! It scans fast and the menu navigation has little to no hesitation. I was able to quickly access the feature I needed to clear the data, literally took a few seconds to sort through the menu system and follow the process. Afterwards I was able to properly execute the idle relearn (10 minute procedure after vehicle is warmed up) and verify it was successful by monitoring the live data on the D8. All told, about 15 minutes of actual work at the vehicle. About 5 minutes to warm up the car and clear the data and another 10 minutes to complete the idle relearn (I was quoted $200 from the dealer for something that should take 15min!). The Honda Civic now idles smoothly where it should (670RPM) and shifts into D and R without surging. No more 800+ RPM idle, no more 12-15mph creep while in D without touching the gas! This is an amazing tool for the price. Nearly every feature I have used so far works great. Keep in mind not all vehicles support all features or actuation tests so your mileage may vary. That being said, most late model vehicles are heavily computer controlled, this tool will most likely be able to handle the troubleshooting task you need. Support for older vehicles (1997-2002) will most likely be minimal. I tried the tool on a 2000 Acura RL and it had very limited capabilities. Not because the tool is bad, but because the vehicle is so old. So far I have used this tool on a 2006 Honda Accord (4dr), 2008 Acura RDX, 2007 Toyota Tundra, 2016 Toyota Corolla, 2006 Nissan 350Z, 2014 Dodge Ram, 2006 Honda Civic EX (4dr, one in my story), and 2000 Acura RL. I have been able to communicate with all the vehicles without issue. I did notice some odd behavior on the 2000 Acura RL, but I suspect again because that vehicle is old, back when OBDII ports were still a new thing. In summary, give this tool a shot! I think you will be happily surprised. With a few more uses, it will more than pay for itself!

Title: Outstanding functionality and performance, definitely worth the price
Review: This XTOOL D8 scan tool is highly capable, and especially so in its price range. It had no problems connecting to and diagnosing GM vehicles here, and offers a wide array of special functions as well. Diagnostic code support is thorough and logical. Live data monitoring works very well and reasonably fast. Overall uisability is very good, the user interface is well designed and responsive, the unit itself is performant, too, I experienced no sluggishness or excessive wait times even for complete diagnostics.Updates are released regularly, adn the process itself couldn't be simpler. Bonus points for making updates individually configurable, which means I don't have to download everything for all the brands and models I never see, and it's even asynchronous, I can change my mind and add/remove to/from the list of updates to be applied even during the process. Finally, correct English terminology and grammar is one of my pet peeves with other products, and this one passes with flying colors, I found very few typos across the entire gamut of labels and messages.As to negatives, there are two small things worth a mention: first, turning the scan tool on is a bit weird: technically, a long press of the power button should do it, but sometimes it didn't happen and the unit took a few short and long presses to finally come to life; and second, some functions are buried so deep in the menus that getting back to the main screen takes 5-6-7 or more taps on the back button, and there seems to be no other way to directly return.All in all, this is a great, versatile and performant tool that is a very good value for the money.

Title: Excellent scanner and key fob programmer
Review: This is an excellent scan tool and key fob programmer for the money and features is the best on the market. My son has a 2006 Toyota Tacoma we scanned it. It had six codes and we knew there were six but we couldn’t tell for sure what the repair needed after doing a deep scan and gave us an accurate repair to do, we did the repair cleared the check engine light is off. Hasn’t come back on. I have a 2017 Ford expedition platinum program two new key fobs was very easy and they both work perfectly. There’s plenty of YouTube videos showing how to use this programmer I highly recommend you watch those , they will help this tool sell itself.

Title: Many nice features but I hope for improvements
Review: I like the functionality and capability of the XTool D8 compared to my OLD PC based tool.Not all vehicles though will be able to utilize all tool features. For example my 2013 Chevy Suburban makes better use of the bi-directional controls and functions than my 2007 Toyota Hybrid Highlander.I wish the data cable had a softer more pliable jacket. It gets even stiffer in cold outdoor environment of the current Minnesota weather. If you want to work under the hood with the vehicle door and window closed, you'll want to pick up a data extension cable that is ribbons style so you can close the door on it without fear of damaging the D8 data cable..The storage case seems to provide protection for the tool but there should be more room provided for cable stowage. I enlarged the cable cavities in the foam. Way better now.I like the battery life of the tool.The tablet is running on antiquated Android 5 which makes adding apps a bit challenging today.XTool's support has to this point been responsive to comments and questions. I do hope that play back of recorded data gets improvements though. Currently one can play and pause only. There is no way to back up during a replay, nor can you fast forward. Also captured data is displayed in there data fields with not option to select data to be shown graphically. I hope that is added!So far the tool is showing to be a great value for the price and aids in my automotive diagnostic needs.
