Title: Great for at least 7 years.
Review: The previous ones were great for 7 years, then started giving false alarms. But they are good so I bought two more to replace those older ones.

Title: Convenient, but don't last anywhere near ten years
Review: Bought to replace identical units that had battery failure after a mere three years. Since the battery is sealed, you just have to chuck the whole thing. Hopefully these will last a bit longer

Title: Poor function, disastrous instructions
Review: If there is one thing you need from a smoke alarm, aside from detecting smoke, it is coherent installation and usage instructions. On a scale of 0 to 10, this smoke alarm probably rates a 1, maybe a zero. Activation is unclear (they expect little bumps on the bracket to push a switch when you install the device, but if you want to "program" it first, i.e. set location, you push the switch in the direction labeled only as "deactivate" in order to activate it. Instructions say nothing about this. ) Deactivation ( break off tab and slide switch further in the same direction ) failed on one of the two identical units I was replacing. Instructions tell you to hold down button to set location, don't tell you that you have less than a second after activating to do so, presumably standing on a ladder. One of our prior units also claims 10 year battery life but failed after 3. Extensive tiny print instructions have a section labeled "where to install" but don't mention that there is a longer section elsewhere, that you probably won't notice among all the unfolding, that is 3 times as long and is "where not to install." This reviewer suggests that "where not to install" should be: "your house or mine, except I already drilled holes for the brackets."

Title: Expect to be good, but...
Review: Just got two of these as a replacement for wrong ones being sent. Based upon the comments I saw here, this problem has happened to many people. Hey, Amazon, get your "stuff" together! As for the alarms, I've used that brand for years, and expect them to work well.
