The First Alert CO710 Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10-Year Battery and Digital Temperature Display detects dangerous carbon monoxide for up to 10 years. This carbon monoxide detector uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor, the most accurate CO detection technology available, to detect the CO you can't see, smell, or taste in the air. A built-in 10-year lithium battery means you never need to worry about changing batteries during the lifetime of the alarm. This stylish CO monitor is designed to sit on top of a dresser or tabletop, and it has a backlit digital display that clearly shows the ambient temperature, as well as current and peak CO concentrations. An 85-decibel horn sounds if carbon monoxide levels are too high, and a test/silence button silences the alarm and allows you to test its functionality.
Keep your family safe with this easy to use digital-display, 10-year battery operated carbon monoxide alarm; Battery powered alarms provide continuous monitoring of CO levels, even if there's a power failure
Easy-to-read backlit digital display shows temperature and CO concentration; Peak Level feature displays the highest concentration of carbon monoxide measured
Built-in 10-year lithium battery offers continuous protection for the life of the carbon monoxide detector
A loud 85-decibel alarm sounds when CO levels reach dangerous levels
10-year limited warranty; Equipped with end-of-life signal chirp, so you know when it’s time to replace the unit for safety

Title: simple, compact, important to have!
Review: simple, compact, important to have! easy to install on wall; I use it for travel, as not all lodging establishments have CO detectors (just need to put it in a small box so packed items don't depress the on/test button!)

Title: Purchased for son's dorm room
Review: Carbon monoxide alarms have protected my family many times when below deck on a boat. (fumes would sometimes blow into the cabin and we couldn't smell it but the alarm knew.) We keep these in several rooms of our home and sometimes travel with them. Most recently, I invested in another one to send with my kid to college. Even though rental units and dorms are required to have a carbon monoxide detector, I don't know that they are maintained or updated when other people are responsible for upkeep. It is a tiny price to protect my family and well worth the piece of mind. This model doesn't take up much space. It doesn't need an outlet and is portable. We just set it on a shelf or dresser. It comes with a 5 year battery. I like that it serves a dual purpose of listing the room temperature too. Of course the primary reason we buy these is safety. Sadly, there are too many cases of people losing their lives or being hospitalized because of carbon monoxide poisoning in dorms, apartments, workshops, etc... Just be sure your family knows to open windows and evacuate quickly if the alarm goes off. Highly recommend.

Title: Great product and everyone needs one in the house
Review: For years we had a plug in detector. I did not know that those detectors only have a X amount of years life span because they have to be replaced. This device is perfect and can be put into any area of the home. One area I wish was improved on is the display size. If you look at the display and the full size, the display should be increased in size. I love that it shows the temperature.

Title: Works, but isn't a replacement for the old model
Review: I moved into a very old house with very thick concrete walls, making drilling frustrating. The home I purchased came with the previous model of this detector. I saw mixed messages about whether the screws were aligned the same as the old model. Unfortunately, I found out that the screws are off by just the tiniest amount and won't fit on the old ones. It's kind of maddening that First Alert did this. I would love to just know why. Why frustrate customers like this?I am still using the new model, but I have it sitting on a shelf. This model of detector is great for those of us with old homes who can't drill into the wall. I like the unit itself. It stands on a shelf easily and it's unobtrusive. I like that it has the air temperature displayed and it has an overall modern look.I still recommend this item. Just don't buy this unit thinking that you can use the screws from the old model.

Title: Easily Transportable Peace of Mind
Review: Picked up this carbon monoxide detector knowing we would be traveling and staying in lodging that would not have detectors. It was easy to move from place to place and set it on a night table at each stop. Once I activated the battery, I made sure to put it in a little box in suitcase each time I packed it to prevent the test button from getting pressed accidentally. Great to have it at home, too. I recommend this First Alert product.

Title: Trust Matters
Review: When buying a life safety device such as this detector, I would not take a risk with any product that is not UL certified. I bought two detectors to have a backup (two different brands) and this is the better of the two. The temperature displayed on the LCD is a nice bonus as it turns this unit into something useful instead of just an ugly plastic brick. I haven't been able to test the 10 year battery, of course. It is useful to know that there are real technical reasons to have the 10 year life limit on these detectors. The actual gas sensor used internally has a limited lifespan, so the 10 year expiration of this product is not a sales gimmick. You will find the same lifespan on other products, including those that case twice the price or more.

Review: This is a quite small (5" x 2.5") and nice looking carbon monoxide detector that can be unobtrusively put on a dresser or hung on the wall. It shows the temperature all the time, but not that the CO is at zero which I wish it did to ensure it's doing its job properly, the only reason for a 4 vs 5 rating. Other than that, it's fine.

Review: Just bought three of these to replace outdated plug in style CO alarms.Nice compact size with clear displays and easy to read warnings, should we ever have CO incident!!While the thermometer function is only a “nice to have” and not critical to the function, this item should have the ability to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius to be sold in Canada. The description doesn’t clearly state this limitation and neither does the instruction booklet. The LCD has an element for C but there is no way to make the switch.
