What should I pay attention to before using the CT-300?

Please open the CT-300 in clean air (such as outdoors with ventilation) and wait for the preheating to complete, which is expected to take 5 seconds.

Why do I smell gas leakage but the CT-300 doesn't display any values?

Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas. The odor you're smelling may not be from carbon monoxide gas. Try using a combustible gas detector for testing.

Why can't carbon monoxide be detected in a closed room?

When there is no significant source of combustion indoors, even in a closed room, carbon monoxide will not be generated. The gases exhaled by humans contain carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a different gas from carbon monoxide (CO).

Why can't carbon monoxide be detected even when there is a combustion source present?

Not all combustion produces CO gas, only incomplete combustion does, which is characterized by a red/yellow flame in most cases. Also, ensure proximity during measurement to prevent gas dispersion, which may lead to undetectable concentrations.

Title: Works very well
Review: I bought this three weeks ago when the HVAC technician told me I have carbon monoxide leak in the furnace and wanted to sell a new unit. I called another HVAC technician to verify this claim and he told me the first guy lied about it to sell a new furnace. He checked with his carbon monoxide probe which indicated no such leak Then I took my detector that I bought from Amazon, the technician and I checked it it and it shows no leak. We took the technician probe and mine checked the car exhaust which shows 255 which was accurate on both. I know now for a fact this probe not only works and also saved me lots of money from replacing the old furnace.

Title: Good to have when your CO alarm sounds
Review: I have several Kidde fire/carbon monoxide alarms throughout my house that are also hard wired so that when one goes off, they all do. I’ve had two recent alarms that required me to disconnect all four to stop the alarms. When I reinstalled them later in the evening, they didn’t sound, until they did, a couple of weeks later. Given that I’ve replaced all of them in the last year or two as they reached their 10 year life expectancy, I have no reason to think that one may be defective, but no way to be sure.I immediately ordered this device and it was at my front door when I awoke the next morning. Great job Amazon.I took readings around both the propane hot air furnace in our basement as well as the propane stove in the kitchen. All readings, over several hours, were below the PPM that Kidde says should trigger the alarm.I am waiting until the weather turns colder so that the furnace runs continuously to take additional readings and keeping this meter handy so that I can immediately test if the alarms go off again.I had called the HVAC company to respond, but I don’t think they would have found a cause of the alarm going off. This meter is only a small fraction of the cost of a technician. So I canceled the service call and will use the meter to check periodically and grab it immediately in the event of another alarm.Looks like a quality made product at a great price, with the caveat that I have no way to independently test its accuracy, at least until the alarm goes off again.

Title: Great to get peace of mind with your appliances, such as a generator
Review: I had heard several stories of generators causing carbon monoxide that entered the house. It was enough to spook me but none of the stories made a whole lot of sense. Every setup is unique to difficult to tell exactly what is going on. One person had a generator in his garage to protect from the rain. I get that one. That is a horrible idea. I have my generator outside under a covered patio with the exhaust pointed away from the house. For peace of mind, I bought this and tested. I placed my generator in the usual position 20 feet from my house but aimed the exhaust at the house to simulate a worst case scenario. My findings were that I could measure a lethal amount of carbon monoxide at the exhaust. 10 feet away I could measure enough carbon monoxide to make you uncomfortable but not unsafe. At 20 feet, the amount I measure was a safe level and I am still outside the house. Inside the house I measured nothing. Anyway this device helped me understand better the levels of carbon monoxide with my setup and I will use it next time I get my generator out during a power outage.

Title: Peace of mind
Review: This worked just as advertised. We have smoke detectors with carbon monoxide detectors built in. My wife and I were afraid that something in our daughters room was giving her headaches and wanted to rule out everything. So we both this device and it worked as advertised. There isn't any carbon monoxide I'm happy to say in my daughter's bedroom. I was able to rest out the device on the exhaust pipe of my car and it light up and alarmed so I know it works.Best yet we have a travel detector that we can take with us on vacation. There is no price tag on peace of mind.

Title: does not meet accuracy spec
Review: 1.) the manufacturers specification, for 0 to 200 ppm range is +/- 20 ppm, this unit reported 15 ppm when subjected to 50 ppm calibration gas with zero air balance, that’s a tolerance of -35ppmno need to test the other ranges, going in the trash2.) amazon listing, under specifications , reports the color as orange, no mention of the mfr technical specification that shipped with the instrument, in the product packaging, these folks should be selling cotton candy, or t-shirts, not carbon monoxide detection instruments

Review: This portable carbon monoxide detector comes with a nice case and comes with actual Duracell batteries. On startup it calibrated and then starts reading from 0. Placing under the car muffler shows a 250+ reading so it does appear to work and can help check your furnace or water heater for any carbon monoxide.
