Review: Haven't had to actually remove a tick yet, but after inspection, I see no reason why it wouldn't work as expected. I like the little case too as it is easy to tuck it in and not lose the two pieces in random crevices.

Title: Not bad, but could be better.
Review: I love having this set in a dedicated case. It makes finding it so much easier in my "Puppy Supplies." On a recent roadmap to South Carolina that occurred just as the snow was melting in Minnesota, I wasn't mentally ready for ticks. After stopping several times on the way to exercise my long hair Shih-Tzu puppy, I was surprised with finding a tick while combing her out that evening. I didn't have proper removal tools with me and to say the least, the removal was an epic fail! When I saw this kit I immediately ordered it and was really feeling prepared. This kit would work well with large ticks, but the ticks we encountered were far to small and would require tweezer about 1/3 as narrow to get between the dogs skin and the tick. The 'fork-like' tool was helpful to left the tick, but not able to grasp it. We required a much narrower set of tweezers for the tiny lone star ticks we encountered in South Carolina. I'll likely add a much narrower set of tweezers to this set and keep in the included tin. I'm not so sure it's "Back pack friendly.' When we back-pack, we normally would either remove the foam insert so more items fit inside the tin, or leave the tin at home. DO I recommend this set? YEs, with the caveat of knowing this aren't great for the tiny species of ticks, but do a great job of spreading the fur so you can get under the tick with whatever size tweezer you'll need. i
