Title: Great guidance for Writers Workshop
Review: I love this book! It is so explanatory. The pictures are very helpful and the lessons are laid out for you to help you get started. The only con is that I teach 5th grade and I feel like the lessons are for 3rd and younger, however I can easily make adjustments by using different text to meet the needs of my upper elementary kids. Because of this book, I'm excited to implement writers workshop this upcoming year. Thank you for a well written book.

Title: Great Resource
Review: As a third grade teacher, I find this book to be very helpful in teaching writing. It gives you ideas on how to begin your Writer's Workshop, how to set up your classroom, many great ideas for mini-lessons, and read aloud suggestions. I especially love all the color photos with examples of posters created by the teacher or together with the students. This is a very teacher friendly guide to teaching writing in an elementary classroom.

Title: Great way to start!
Review: I absolutely loved the suggestions and especially the photographs in this book. I set up my classroom to try this "launch" and have great expectations that my students will respond is a very positive way. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who likes to have a systematic way of teaching writing that combines some of the great ideas from Lucy Calkins and Ralph Fletcher.

Title: Need help launching Writer's Workshop?
Review: I wish I had bought this book at the beginning of the year. This is THE best book I have seen for launching the Writer's Workshop. It takes you through step by step and provides the lessons that you need to introduce the procedures and expectations for your workshop. Keep in mind that this book is NOT a step-by step guide for what to do with your workshop for the year... it is only a guide about LAUNCHING the workshop.

Title: excellent ideas, concrete examples!
Review: We are starting the use of Lucy Calkins' Common Core Writing Workshop at my school. I was looking for a good way to launch Writer's Workshop that would set my students up for success throughout the year. This is it! All of the visuals and explanations are amazing and worth every penny. A quick read, too!

Title: Great Choice
Review: My students and I LOVE this book. The color pictures are a huge help. Very clear. This approach is meaningful and real - not gimmicky. You can use it as THE writing program in your classroom or as a complement to a writing program you're already using. I teach 2nd grade, and some of the lessons are a bit advanced, but you can modify as needed. I tried a lesson called "Digging Deeper for Meaning" which I think is recommended for 4th graders. I was afraid it would flop, and for some kids it did, but I was surprised at how many kids connected with it. One of them even said to me during a brief conference "I think I need to dig deeper for meaning." (!!!!!!!!) I was floored and of course very proud! Give it a try 🙂

Title: Not for the experienced writer's workshop teacher.
Review: If you're currently implementing a Writer's Workshop model this will be old news. If you're new to WW you might find this helpful.

Title: good for 3rd grade and up
Review: good ideas in this book. I teach 1st grade and will have to make changes to a few things. I think if you taught 3rd or up you could use the program just like the book lays out. I loved that there were pictures of every step of the process.
