Title: Well made tool; yields much better results than i get manually filing
Review: Had no idea how poorly a job I was doing sharpening my chains manually with files until I started using this. All my saws cut noticeably better now. This is also a lot quicker than messing with files. Pop the chain off the saw, adjust the grinder and then you just run an assembly line on it; super quick consistent results. I debated getting a harbor freight grinder for $30 but decided to splurge on this and happy I did. One of the reasons was the clamp mechanism that holds the chain in place seemed a lot more sturdy on this unit, but seemed super inconsistent and floppy on harbor freight unit. If the hold on the chain is not tight and consistent from cutter to cutter you're going to get poor results. The adjustment manual gives clear directions and is easy to follow for all types of oregon chain. The one thing which could be improved is the means by which you need to remove the the red plastic shield when switching between grinding wheels. You have to unscrew two phillips head and screws, I have a number of saws with different chain sizes and have to switch between wheels often, would be a lot more convenient to have some sort of quick locking mechanism rather than having to use a screwdriver constantly, and i fear at some point the threading in the red plastic piece will be stripped out after continual use

Title: An awesome machine!
Review: The price of sharpening chains has risen so high that I decided to buy this and do it myself. It does a great job, and saves lots of money!

Title: Don't be stubborn, like me
Review: I have been living in a forest, and using firewood here in MT, for 17 years. I enjoy cutting my own logs into rounds, splitting them, stacking them, and burning them. I was aware of chain saws before this, but by no means an expert. About 15 years ago, I bought a Harbor Freight grinder/sharpener, for probably $40. It was 'ok' for setting the edge of the cutters, but not much else. It is also fairly loose, so every grind isn't the same as the next. I mostly used a Dremel with grinding bits to 'touch up' the cutters.I finally broke down and got this grinder. I knew it was recognized as the best in the business, but didn't want to spend almost $300. Well, it is on sale now for $200. I made the choice and ordered it. It came today.Took me about 45 minutes to make a stand and get it set up. The instructions are 'ok', but I was confused how things 'moved' at first. Got it figured out. Setup for the angles is simple, just follow the chart. After setting it up, I began to grind the chain I had been using. After the first cutter, I was shocked at the difference in the cutting edges. I had been nowhere close to the right angles. It took a lot off the cutters, since things were so messed up, but that will change with subsequent sharpenings. I haven't set the rakers yet, that will be tomorrow, but I already know they are close.Took the sharpened chain out with my Husky Rancher and tried a log. It practically fell through the wood. I feel I was using half the pressure to guide the bar, and without timing before and after, I also feel it cut 40% faster. The difference in chips was obvious, as the new chips were sitting on top of the 'sawdust' I had been making before. This is a quality product, at a good price now, and well worth the expense. I just wish I had ordered it before I did the first 2 of 6 cords I need to cut for winter. The next 4 will go much quicker.

Title: Pretty decent sharpener.
Review: It is a mostly versatile grinder, it runs quietly, and had good range of adjustments. However I thought, it could do all angles for chains, but carbide chains need down to a 35 degree angleand even a 30...I don't know where in the listing you can see what all angles they can do, so if you are buying one of these to sharpen a carbide chain, do some extra looking to make sure it will reach the angle you need it to; or you will spend some extra time changing the angles on your carbides to the sharpener's limit. It does have both a wall and a bench mount system... which both are handy for if you want to stand at a bench or set up a chair and sit by the wall to sharpen your chains.I don't greatly like how it locks the chain in place, it leaves inconsistency with sharpening, because a couple of the components can flex which will change how every tooth is sharpened. But if you have less than the dozen chains I have and are just doing one every so often, you will be fineusing this product.

Title: Ready for hurricane season and winter firewood cutting!!
Review: For years I have looked at these and just couldnât justify the price, so I used the dremmel kits, hand files and the harbor freight sharpener. Finally ordered this, bolted it to my work bench, assembly was super easy. Now, make sure you read the instructions, this little jewel has quite a few adjustments, and comes with three sharpening wheels! I have 5 saws that I use ranging from a Makita 10â to a Sthil 30â, changing the sharpening wheel is super easy. Again read the instructions and you will be able to sharpen chainsaw blades like a champ!

Title: The cheapest nice one you can buy
Review: It's the cheapest nice sharpener you can buy. I don't feel like I need to upgrade which is nice. It works great. I've put diamond wheels on it too for carbide chains and it works fine.

Title: saving me money
Review: The setup was easier because I watched many YouTube videos. after practicing on an old worn chain I started doing all the rest that I had setting about. I was keeping several chains just so I could turn them in for metal recycling. I actually managed to salvage most of them to razor sharp status. I put the most worn one on my saw and it chewed through red oak like a new blade with large chips flying. It probably won't survive more than one more sharpening, but that's pretty good for a chain that I thought was trash. In all I sharpened 8 chains and at $10 a pop for my local shop to do it, I've already saved about 1/3 of the cost of the sharpener.

Review: If you sharpen chainsaw chains then this is the right way to go. Reasonable price and pretty good quality. I don't like the plastic knobs but this machine gives consistency that I could never get out of a manual system. The manual is pretty good, I followed it step by step and once I made it through, I realized it was actually pretty straight forward. And once you get it set up - you can do a complete sharpening in minutes. And most of your settings don't change.

Review: Iâve hand sharpened my chains for over 40 years and Iâm pretty good at it. But on one job I hit some imbedded nails in the trees and went through 4 chains. They were bad enough that I knew it was major time to file them out. I bought the Oregon Sharpener and couldnât be happier. Took me about 20 minutes to get it set up. I experimented on one chain to get the setting perfect and then away I went. The grind is super nice and exact. The saws are taking out chunks of wood which really tells the story of how sharp they are. And the best part is I wasnât spending all my time sharpening and not cutting. Wish I had bought this years ago. Just a tip for new users. Donât just push down and grind. Do light taps with the grinder so you donât heat the chain tooth. If you turn it blue it got too hot.
Customers say
