Title: Diet freedom, yes, but oh so much more
Review: The Cherry Pie Paradox by Joy Imboden Overstreet is the most delightful diet book you'll ever read. And probably the last. But wait...it's not really a diet book at all. More like a roadmap to your own journey of self-discovery and freedom from destructive, guilt-laden and obsessive food habits .The author guides us to really look at and understand our relationship to food, and how that relationship came to be through all sorts of forces -- some from the outside like family and cultural "standards", traditions, and myths. And some from the inside, like coping mechanisms we developed when we were young to protect ourselves. Follow the exercises and you will become much more aware of your food and eating habits and the underlying thoughts and beliefs behind them. Armed with this newfound awareness, she then gives you many tools and exercises to begin creating more intentional, nurturing habits around food and eating (and the thinking that goes with it). Now that's freedom!Overstreet shares her own journey in a straight forward and humorous way. The charming illustrations add an element of light-hearted fun. The book is well laid out with charts to fill out, writing prompts for journaling, practices, meditations, and helpful end-chapter bulleted summaries. I really appreciate the balance of science and anecdotal stories.I will be gifting this book to many of my friends who struggle with food and diets.

Title: It's All About Relationships
Review: Joy Overstreet's book may seem to be about losing weight, but it's about so much more. As some other readers have already pointed out, Joy's book takes a good, hard look at our relationship with food. I think it even goes beyond that; in many ways, I think it's about our relationship with ourselves and how we judge ourselves. Joy fully explores these relationships and prescribes suggestions for shifting our attitudes, a realistic game plan of action, and many encouraging support mechanisms for our journey. Many of which can be found in her very helpful appendix and website. For those inclined, she provides numerous mindfulness exercises that are no doubt helpful. Because I'm a "get to the point" type of guy, I focused more on her practical end of chapter "take away points" such as - "Be present to your food, so you can savor what's delicious and leave what isn't" and "Willpower is overrated; create an environment that doesn't require it." I find myself already shifting my attitude, becoming more discerning of when and what I eat, and becoming more patient in my journey to healthiness and weight loss. Thank you Joy for writing an inspiring and practical book for us all! Fred

Title: An achievable and lasting path
Review: I have tried many diets and fads over the years, and I always seem to lose a few pounds then go back to hovering 5-10 pounds over my right size. I am really excited to be doing something that doesn’t involve either extreme food prep or long periods of hunger. The new habits I’m building through the exercises in the book (including paying a lot more attention when I’m eating) are working. I already feel more in control and motivated to continue my “project” long term. Joy’s personal and professional experience combine perfectly to lay out a doable and empowering path. And as a bonus, it’s really funny!

Title: Life Changing Book!
Review: Joy Imboden Overstreet’s The Cherry Pie Paradox is definitely not another “diet book.” It suggests a whole new mindset for looking at weight issues by examining our relationships with food and the psychology behind those patterns.Overstreet shares her own journey in order to inspire her readers that they too can achieve success. She then proposes a road map for rethinking old behaviors and establishing new ones that will provide us with a healthier and more productive way to deal with food.Overstreet doesn’t just tell us what to do, she provides online links that give us the ability to “work the book.” They include guided meditations and downloadable worksheets to help the reader along the way and to assess behaviors before and after attempting this new mode of dealing with our attitude towards food.I have struggled with weight issues throughout my life and this book has made me hopeful about finally being able to conquer my demons and attain a positive image and acceptance of myself!

Title: Wherever you are in your body image journey, this book is a must read!
Review: I’ve been in a love/hate relationship with food and my body most of my life. Even though I have been relatively "thin" for the past several decades, I was still struggling with body image and food guilt. The tools in this book helped me to lay that burden down at last. I recently enjoyed a piece of cherry pie for breakfast to celebrate!

Title: Not your typical diet book
Review: The Cherry Pie Paradox is witty and engaging, and at the same time, filled with excellent observations and advice on ways to change the way you think about food and dieting. I loved the way the author shared her personal life and stories. This book is definitely “Food for Thought”, rather than your typical “Diet Book”. I have bookmarked numerous pages with tidbits that apply to my own situation that I will go back and read again and again.

Title: This book is the answer
Review: If you believe that following your internal cues and retraining your brain is the answer, but just haven't been able to put it together in your head yet--- Read this book. I've struggled for years with what Joy calls a "weight project". Finally, I know that this is the book I've been looking for to put it all together for me and Finally succeed. Her book made me laugh out loud and every part of it is so relatable. Buy the book! You won't be disappointed.

Title: I lost weight
Review: After reading this book, and getting some good laughs along the way, I decided to try some of these exercises. Without really trying, the weight started dropping off (15 pounds so far and back to my desired weight). I think the reason the book works is that it asks the reader to become conscious of what they’re eating! I highly recommend “The Cherry Pie Paradox” for its deep understanding and explanation of our relationship to food, and to all of life, for that matter. It’s not a diet, it’s a way of life.
