In the Food Network star's first book, Giada De Laurentiis helps you put a fabulous Italian dinner on the table tonight, for friends or just for the kids, with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of flavor.

Everyday Italian is true to its title: the fresh, simple recipes are incredibly quick and accessible, and also utterly mouth-watering—perfect for everyday cooking. And the book is focused on the real-life considerations of what you actually have in your refrigerator and pantry (no mail-order ingredients here) and what you’re in the mood for—whether a simply sauced pasta or a hearty family-friendly roast, these great recipes cover every contingency. So, for example, you’ll find dishes that you can make solely from pantry ingredients, or those that transform lowly leftovers into exquisite entrées (including brilliant ideas for leftover pasta), and those that satisfy your yearning to have something sweet baking in the oven. There are 7 ways to make red sauce more interesting, 6 different preparations of the classic cutlet, 5 perfect pestos, 4 creative uses for prosciutto, 3 variations on basic polenta, 2 great steaks, and 1 sublime chocolate tiramisù—plus 100 other recipes that turn everyday ingredients into speedy but special dinners.

What’s more, Everyday Italian is organized according to what type of food you want tonight—whether a soul-warming stew for Sunday supper, a quick sauté for a weeknight, or a baked pasta for potluck. These categories will help you figure out what to cook in an instant, with such choices as fresh-from-the-pantry appetizers, sauceless pastas, everyday roasts, and stuffed vegetables—whatever you’re in the mood for, you’ll be able to find a simple, delicious recipe for it here. That’s the beauty of Italian home cooking, and that’s what Giada De Laurentiis offers here—the essential recipes to make a great Italian dinner. Tonight.

Title: Delicious Italian food simplified
Review: I confess that my husband and I have something of a cookbook fetish. We have, however, invested in some books that didn't prove worthwhile and so before shelling out the money for Giada's books, I decided I would check them out from the library, make some recipes, and go from there. I wanted to know if the recipes were as good as she makes them look on the show and if, upon tasting it, my husband and I would have expressions on our faces that mirror the food ecstasy Giada seems to experience. The answer to that question: Oh, yes! Today I've ordered all three of her books because I simply can't imagine living without them and not being able to make her delicious, heavenly recipes whenever I want. Here are my thoughts on a few of the recipes:Vodka Sauce - This was perhaps the only Giada recipe I made with which I wasn't entirely thrilled. It was a little too heavy on the vodka for my taste and I would likely use less the next time I make it. It does have a nice, creamy texture and the vodka does cut through the cream but I thought the flavor of the vodka overwhelmed the other flavors. The next time I make this, I will try it with half the amount of vodka specified in the recipe.Salmon Baked in Foil - I really liked fish "in a bag" as it makes for very easy cooking and very moist fish with a nice helping of vegetables. I enjoyed this Italian take on the dish and the end result was very tender and tasty salmon with a lovely herbed tomato sauce. I'm not entirely a fish enthusiast so it's saying something when a fish dish gets high marks from me.

Title: Excellent - must have book for all foodies!
Review: Yes, there are far too many pictures of the author. The editor or someone must have used pics to reach a page minimum (giving her the benefit of the doubt).Okay, with that out of the way, let's move on to the recipes. Wow!, nothing short of amazing! Excellent! Simple recipes, yet there is layered flavor and wow, super yummy. I have made several of the recipes and all are keepers. One thing I would recommend, on the Chicken Cacciatore...the finished product has a lot of liquid. We decided to make white (basmati) rice to go with it to help soak up some of the extra liquid. You could pour some off, but it is soooo good, I really wouldn't recommend doing so. Yes, I realize the rice isn't 'Italian', but the book is an Americanized version of Italian, so it goes just fine if you ask me!If you are like me, you want good food, without spending hours in the kitchen. The last thing I want to do after working 10 hours, is cook for 2 hours! This is a GREAT cookbook for those who want go food without sacrificing your entire day/evening cooking it! This is my new 'go to' book for dinner! You won't be disappointed.Book quality and layout are important to me. This book is a hardcover that will lay flat (with some help) when opened. The paper is nice thick and glossy and the pictures are good quality. The book is bound and stitched to last with repeated use.It you can make it past someones love affair with the author (I sure hope they got that date), then this one is a keeper!

Title: Great simple meals
Review: After watching Giada De Laurentiis on the Food Channel, I prepared her Ziti with asparagus, smoked mozzarella, and prosciutto dish and fell in love. Both as a main course (with the pasta) and a side dish this is one of my favorite meals. The combination of the smoked mozzarella cheese and asparagus is a mouth watering delight. After I received her cookbook, I promptly made the chicken parmesan. Wow. It's not that over breaded glop of fried chicken found at the local mediocre Italian restaurant. This is a simple, yet tasty chicken, cheese and marinara dish that even my husband likes. The Chicken Cacciatore was also easy to prepare and so tasty we couldn't wait to eat the leftovers the next day. I did add some pasta to the leftovers because there was more sauce than chicken and this rounded out the meal. Our 2nd absolute favorite is the Braciola. A flank steak rolled up with bread crumbs, herbs and cheese inside. This was a dish I would never have attempted, but after reading through the receipe it sounded so easy that I figured what the heck. I was not disappointed. The leftovers were even better after the spices had permeated the meat.I cannot wait to try the roasted chicken with balsamic vinaigrette. My only compliant, the photos seem to be added to fill the pages and often do not have much to do with the adjoining receipe.

Review: I really like when cookbooks have pictures showing me what the final product will look like. I really thought this cookbook would have that but unfortunately, it rarely did. The pictures that were included were mostly just of her cooking. Otherwise the recipes themselves, well the ones I have tried (which are few because the lack of pictures isn't inspiring me to try them), are great.
