Recipes for the most popular dishes from the collection of “the high priest of hot stuff,” the author of Chili Peppers and The Founding Foodies (Sam Gugino, James Beard Award-winning food journalist).

For the past three decades, Dave DeWitt has devoted his life and career to chile peppers and fiery foods, and he publishes the huge Fiery Foods & Barbecue Central (fiery-foods.com), which includes hundreds of articles and thousands of recipes. This new book is composed of the very best dishes from DeWitt’s collection of chile pepper-laden recipes from around the world that he’s acquired on his travels, from colleagues, and by researching authentic, obscure, and out-of-print cookbooks.

The book is loaded with a vast array of hot and spicy favorites, including a huge variety of soups, stews, chilis, and gumbos; a broad selection of barbecue dishes for the grill; and a lengthy list of meatless entrees and vegetable options. Included are not just hundreds of spicy main dishes, but also a surprising array of zesty beverages, desserts, and breakfasts.

In some chapters in this book, the recipes are grouped by type of recipe; in the others, they are organized in the order of chile peppers’ spread around the globe: South and Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, U.S.A., Europe, the Mediterranean and Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Asia and the Pacific. The book is truly the very best the world has to offer in terms of great spicy foods

“When it comes to hellfire, no one can turn up the heat like Dave DeWitt.” —Steven Raichlen, author of Project Smoke

Title: My favorite recipe book
Review: 1001 spicy recipes from all over the world, very well done . The Whole Chili Pepper Book was my favorite for years by the same author now out of print made me worried but this is even better. This will keep be busy cooking and inspired for years to come. I highly recommend this book for any chili heads out there!

Title: If You Love Peppers,
Review: This is the best collection of Hot and Spicy Recipes I have found. I will say that I met Dave DeWitt about 20 years ago at a chili pepper convention in New Mexico so I knew I was going to receive value for my money. Mr. DeWitt is the King when it comes to knowing chili peppers, hot sauce and spicy foods. I have 4 other books written by him and enjoy all of them. If you enjoy hot and spicy foods, this book should be in the kitchen where you cook. You can also use it to make some outstanding Bar-B-Q

Title: I Like!
Review: The book provides hot and spicy across the board. You can't be hatin' on that. I read the whole thing and there is a plethora of recipes that I had not considered plus plenty of traditional and regional cuisine that could keep you interested even if you were a savant. If jalapenos stun you, this book will take you into a level of heat that you've never experienced. I suggest heat seekers go ahead and make the purchase!

Title: It's free and upfront with the premise.
Review: But 1,000 recipes? Really? And me with no one in my household liking spicy? Sigh. Unfortunately this is for me only, and the recipes are for families. Mine does not like hot and spicy. This would be great for you if yours does.

Title: Far outstripped my expectations - encyclopedic in scope
Review: I picked this up with some skepticism, in that collections such as this one never seem to cover any one area very well. For what it's worth, in the cuisine areas with which I'm familiar, _1001 Best Hot and Spicy Recipes_ does a great job - and the recipes for other cuisines seem very well set out. The breadth of this collection is pretty breathtaking - there'll be lots here for anyone who enjoys a bit of piquancy in her food. From the wonderful introduction through all of the encyclopedic, well laid-out sections (kitchen essentials, classic sauces/salsas, drinks and snacks, breakfasts/breads, appetizers, salads, soups/stews/gumbos, meaty mains, barbecues, poultry, seafood, meatless mains, veggies/sides, desserts) have detailed but simple recipes involving warm spiciness. Again, Mr. DeWitt does an accurate job on the recipes with which I'm familiar, and there's a good amount of explanation of areas of controversy as well. Gotta love it - this book far outstripped my expectations. My wife and I are enjoying it and we'll likely be giving it to friends/family.

Title: Now this is a cookbook
Review: There are so many little quickie "cookbooks" foisted on us through Amazon but this one is definitely a keeper with 800 pages of recipes. Too bad there are not photos but I have since learned that Amazon charges for photos to be included and you could actually lose money and owe it to Amazon for every copy sold with the picture charges. Amazon, this is for you, if you truly want to compete with print books STOP CHARGING FOR PICS TO BE INCUDED IN BOOKS.

Title: Great book!
Review: This book is full of very authentic recipes from all over the world, everything I've made so far has been delicious. Some of the ingredients are hard/impossible to find, but that's the price of authenticity.

Title: Tons of recipes
Review: This is a really comprehensive cookbook. It has every type of recipe imaginable in every category. I am a chili head so having this many hot and spicy recipes in one book is wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone who eats hot sauce and hot/spicy foods regularly. There are some recipes that call for items I've never heard of that have to be purchased at a specialty market, but most of them have ingredients from the grocery store. The price was really reasonable. This is a big fat book. If anyone knows hot and spicy, it's Dave Dewitt.
