Title: Very Good Movie-- A Sleeper
Review: I was just looking for something to watch late at night and something about this movie caught my eye....fearing a sappy, sentimental Christmas re-tread, I checked out the preview....and there was something there that made me buy it. I did not regret it !Whoever cast this move really did their job: Ed Burns was, as usual, compelling and excellent, as was Nashville's Connie Britton as his love interest.I particularly loved co-star Michael McGloan ( we don't see enough of him ) as his feisty upscale brother....in fact, EVERYONE in this movie delivered a noteworthy performance. .The direction, dialogue, everything was top notch and and really captured the essence of a large working class Irish family in Queens, with one foot in today and another in the Irish Catholic blue collar past, headed up by a small but mighty redheaded matriarch. It also had several unexpected heart-catching twists that you didn't see coming, which continued to keep it moving very well. And if you are expecting 'just another Christmas movie' guess again, because although the traditional framework is there, this movie was NOT Disney-fare.Interestingly fast-paced for a family drama, it caught me right away with its sense of humor, heart felt emotions and fascinatingly drawn characters. ...of course, for me, it evoked serious nostalgia because I was raised in a similiar environment, which brought back many memories. It would take a seriously gifted team of actors, directors and producers to do justice to what otherwise would be considered a 'small movie.' With all this talent, this 'small movie' was elevated to a fine art.

Title: Family Drama real life stuff strong characters
Review: Meaningful, heartwarming, difficult topics, but you won't get BURNED by these filmmakers!! Across the board, GREAT characterizations. I thought Burns was great in My Big Fat Greek Wedding; now I see that was just the beginning of his contributions to film. I'd love to see more of this family and what happens in the following year. Each character is completely lovable, and I care to know how they've dealt with the many things that came up in this film. It is amazing how many different issues were addressed in this one film. This is what films are supposed to be! Kudos and Gratitude!

Title: Born in the U.S.A.
Review: This is an Edward Burns movie that takes place at Christmas and, as ever, Burns is about relationships, especially in Irish American families. It is for adults and youth who it might benefit in sorting out their own "real life" family issues at the holidays or at very least, being comforted that their family is not alone in having its dysfunctional aspects and yet still a thriving, workable unit. Edward Burns has a wonderfully authentic voice and he and Connie Britton play well together on screen. The supporting cast is equally great. If you are an Edward Burns fan, then this one will not disappoint. If you are new to his films, you might wish to watch "The Brothers McMullens" first. As another reviewer pointed out, this is the sequel. However, it does stand alone. His movies are funny like Woody Allen if not quite as heavy handedly self-absorbed. The humor is in the psychic hand-wringing, and in the emotional vulnerabilities. He does deal with difficult family emotions and life events but true to Irish American spunk, it is devoid of the maudlin. I am a Christmas movie junky and love the Hallmark variety, but a departure keeps the balance. By the way, you ladies out there, don't you think Edward Burns has a soft, soothingly gritty masculine voice that reminds you kind of Bruce Springsteen? Born in the U.S.A.!

Title: One of my go-to Christmas movies
Review: I've been watching this movie for years now. Ed Burns does a fantastic job with the wholly believable dysfunctional family and brother-sister relationships. My family is separated, relationships broken, and I watch this movie in part because of the beautiful ending scene, of everyone coming together. This movie is a little gift of anti-establishment Christmas sentiment: that the struggle is real and not all of us live Hallmark movie lives.

Title: Another Edward Burns gem that deserves and needs to be viewed.
Review: I've always been a great fan of Edward Burns, especially films that he writes and directs, and this film is no disappointment. He brings a great ensemble cast (many familiar faces from his previous films) and they all bring their A game. This film is mainly a Christmas drama, but not a typical TV/Cable predictable weepie. The characters and relationships are believable and great dialogue. I'm not sure why his last few films have had limited/VOD releases, but this one as well as his others deserve a wide release and especially viewing by audiences that don't want predictable stories, characters, or CGI action.

Title: Not very jolly
Review: Okay I admit I did NOT finish this movie-the cursing and crude comments/discussions among the less-than appealing siblings totally turned me off. I thought the main character-the son who lives at home with mom-and the love interest had real potential but I could not get past the rest of the dysfunctional, selfish family. I wasn't looking for 'fairy tale' but I wasn't looking for seriously dysfunctional either.
