Title: Worth its weight in gold
Review: This book has great trips for everyone. I used this book to plan my first backpacking trip, using one of the milder options. Since then, I've done six more of the treks from this book, including a 70+ mile 4-day trip. I've done several of the shorter trips multiple times (generally with different hiking partners, and often with slightly different variations). This book really has something for everyone, and even if the route is too long/short for you as written, the author always includes options for lengthening or shortening the routes. All of the trips from this book have been amazing, and for a while I didn't appreciate how good they really were because I used this book to plan all my trips. Then I planned a couple trips using other resources, and I realized that the trips from this book really are the cream of the crop. If you're a new backpacker, start with a couple of the beginner-level trips in this book so you have the best experience possible. If you're an experienced backpacker, use this book to experience the best trips the mid-Atlantic has to offer. My only complaint is that there isn't a book like this for every region in the country. It would make trip planning when I travel so much easier.

Title: My trusty guide for Shenandoah highlights
Review: I used this for a quick 3-day tour of Shenandoah. The suggestion was great! Definitely do read the difficulty levels. The route I did, which included Old Rag (after 2 sleepless nights in a bad tent), definitely pushed me harder than I was anticipating, though pretty much exactly as the author described. For those thinking of doing that mid-Shenandoah tour: You do have the option of skipping Old Rag at the end and just taking the fire roads back to the trailhead. Old Rag is not for the faint of heart.

Review: This is an excellent resource for any backpacker in this area whether a greenhorn like me or an old hand. The layout is very user friendly with an overview of each hike to make selection simple. Then he gives plenty of detail for each hike in the trail notes. The maps are detailed enough by themselves and he includes resourse listings for more if you want. Well done!

Title: Useful Guide (with one suggestion for improvement)
Review: Very nicely organized and produced trail guide. Martin's trail descriptions are clear and very helpful, and his general advice in the early chapters is useful, even for experienced backpackers. One suggestion would be for him to include GPS coordinates for trail intersections, particularly for trails in poorly marked areas, such as the Monogahela National Forest (coordinates for suggested campsites are included, but this more significant data is not).

Title: Great descriptions and details.
Review: I love this book! The hikes range in length, but the book gives lots of ideas for shortening hikes so weekend warriors and newbies can manage. We've already completed 2 of the Maryland hikes and they were exactly as described. I'm looking forward to doing more!

Title: Excellent book that really helps you with the logistics
Review: Excellent book that really helps you with the logistics. The author does a good job stringing trails together to make longer hikes which I really appreciate. Even though I'm very familiar with the general area this book covers, the author thought of some hikes/trail combinations that I never would have.

Title: Great content but arrived damaged
Review: The content is going to be very helpful in planning out a few upcoming backpacking trips. Only problem is the book arrived damaged with one corner all mangled. Shipping package seemed fine so they probably sent it out that way, which is messed up. Now too lazy to deal with returning it.
