The FIRST ALERT CO615 dual power carbon monoxide plug in alarm alerts you to dangerous carbon monoxide. This carbon monoxide detector operates on a dual power system with battery backup for continuous monitoring, even in the event of a power outage. The backlit digital screen tells you at a glance what the carbon monoxide and power Levels Are. The Co monitor also features a convenient test and silence button and an end of life timer that lets you know when it is time to replace the unit.*ensure the outlet has power.*the battery is for back up only and is not intended to power the alarm for an Extended period of time in the absence of AC. *the alarm will light up the display briefly to indicate the unit is receiving power. *press and hold test button to ensure activation. Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air. The FIRST ALERT CO615 carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet. Its easy-to-read backlit digital LED display gives you a clear read-out of current CO concentrations in parts per million. The alarm includes a battery back-up giving you peace of mind in a power outage. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. An audible and visual low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and an indicator alerts you when a battery has been removed. An end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 7-year limited warranty. UL listed. --Bree NorlanderWhat's in the Box

Title: Works great. No false alarms. Get FRESHLY dated!
Review: I think the First Alert Co615 carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent product. I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4, except for the fresh-dating issue.I bought two of these carbon monoxide detectors from Amazon two years ago, in April, 2010. I like the following features:- It is powered by plugging it in, with a battery backup. So, it does not use the batteries much, but it will still operate if there is a power failure. And the batteries are two AA's, so they are not expensive.- No false alarms. I don't want to lose a night's sleep for no reason!- The batteries are not depleted as long as the unit has AC power. In two years, there is no noticeable drop in battery voltage. Therefore, I am not awakened by low-battery warnings, like the purchasers of some other brands.- Digital readout. You can press the button and see the reading at any time. Mine have always been zero; if I saw anything else, I would look for furnace, water heater, stove, or other appliance malfunctions. Some people have complained that it does not display the reading constantly, without pressing a button; I suspect this would drain the batteries more quickly in case of a power outage.- Detachable plug with extension cord. You can plug in the unit at ground level and install it much higher, so you can read it easily, and also have the unit sense readings higher off the ground. (Carbon monoxide is just slightly lighter than air.)I decided to purchase a third detector from Amazon. But when I put in the search criteria "Co615" with an "All Departments" search, a little note was displayed with a date of "May 2, 2007". I e-mailed Amazon customer service to find out if this was the date of manufacture, and they confirmed it was. This date is unacceptable. The detectors have chemical components that deteriorate over time, even if the unit is not turned on, and this date is FIVE YEARS AGO. I decided to purchase my third unit from First Alert directly in order to get a fresher unit. If I had received an older unit, it still would have been warranted by First Alert for seven years from date of purchase. However, I did not want to buy an item that had an increased chance of failing prematurely.I think both First Alert and Amazon can do better on the fresh-dating issue. First Alert should put the date of manufacture where it can be seen without opening the package. Right now, it is only on the unit, and you have to open the package and remove the plug to see it.Amazon only displays the mysterious date (which happens to be the manufacture date) on the "All Departments" search result screen. It does not appear in the detailed description of the item. It also does not appear if you search within a particular department, like "Tools and Home Improvement". This date is important, and it should not appear only intermittently and without explanation.

Title: Easy to install
Review: The CO detector comes with the necessary, batteries, and two different ways to mount the unit, either plugging it in directly, or mounting it higher with a cord that reaches the plug. Very clear instructions on how to install it and how to maintain it. Would definitely recommend this product.

Title: Critical item for (most) households
Review: The 'hybrid' smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are always a compromise. This isn't. Why would you compromise on something that could potentially (silently) kill you while sleeping. Do you have gas burning appliances in your house? Then you need this. It's a dedicated (that's key) CO detector. It can plug straight into an outlet with the cord stashed inside, or you can pull the cord out and hang it on the wall. It DOES take batteries, but only two AA for backup in case of power outage. The digital display will tell you when the AA's need replacement (typically years without regular outages)There is a soft green LED in the front to let you know it's powered and working. Install it somewhere on the same floor as your appliances. (NOT in a furnace room or utility closet, but nearby) Keep in mind this is not a FOREVER purchase. After 5+ years they lose the ability to 'sniff' CO. That is a normal failsafe.Cheap insurance for you and your family. I hear once or twice a year about some poor family who gets wiped out by CO. Don't be them.

Title: Seems to Work
Review: It's a CO2 alarm, nothing flashy or fancy. Plugs into the wall, green light comes on and hopefully it's monitoring the air as it's supposed to. We have a propane gas stove and after having a burner repaired the repairman recommended an alarm. I thought my smoke alarms were dual alarms but turned out they are not so this alarm makes up for that. Got two of them and both seem to be working just fine. I hope I never have to find out for sure.

Review: I own a condo townhouse and on the 24th of December 2022 the fire man came to my door after they were called to my area by another home owner whose carbon monoxide was going off. The outlet to my outside gas furnace pipe was blocked with snow. They cleared the snow away checked my monoxide fixtures and told me I need all new ones. I bought the package of 3 as the picture shows and plugged them in. They have a small light that shows they are on and working. I strongly suggest that anyone who does not have carbon monoxide alarms buy a package of these immediately. You can test them just by pressing a small button. Again, I repeat again if you do not have carbon monoxide alarms in your dwelling get these. They work great.
