“Recipes veer from Braised Pork Tamale Burrito Bowls to Crispy Buffalo Quinoa Bites with no logic other than flat-out good taste.”—Epicurious
Tieghan Gerard grew up in the Colorado mountains as one of seven children. When her dad took too long to make dinner every night, she started doing the cooking—at age fifteen. Ever-determined to reign in the chaos of her big family, Tieghan found her place in the kitchen. She had a knack for creating unique dishes, which led her to launch her blog, Half Baked Harvest. Since then, millions of people have fallen in love with her fresh take on comfort food, stunning photography, and charming life in the mountains.
While it might be a trek to get to Tieghan’s barn-turned-test kitchen, her creativity shines here: dress up that cheese board with a real honey comb; decorate a standard salad with spicy, crispy sweet potato fries; serve stir fry over forbidden black rice; give French Onion Soup an Irish kick with Guinness and soda bread; bake a secret ingredient into your apple pie (hint: it’s molasses). From Korean Beef, Sweet Potato, and Quinoa Bibimbap to Healthier Slow-Cooker Butter Chicken to Addictive Salted Caramel–Stuffed Chocolate Cookies, a striking photograph accompanies every recipe, making Half Baked Harvest Cookbook a feast your eyes, too.

Title: Food my family will eat with lovely pictures
Review: I like that this has recipes with food. My family will actually eat, not things I will never have in my pantry. The recipes are easy to follow and the pictures have a lovely presentation. I donât know that mine will ever look like that, but itâs nice to look at and at least see the food cooked and what it could look like.

Title: RUN! Don't walk to buy this cookbook!
Review: After having pinned and tried multiple of Tieghan's recipes on Pinterest, I decided to splurge and buy one of her cookbooks. I tend to avoid buying cookbooks because (1) they take up space and (2) I tend to only use one or two recipies in the book or not use it at all. Let me tell you - I have made about 20 of the recipes in this cookbook and they come out PERFECT EVERY TIME. If you're looking to elevate your tradtional weeknight dinner, serve something impressive for guests, or just try something new and scruptious for desert, this is really the cookbook for you. Tieghan's recipes are fun, approachable, DELICIOUS, and anyone can make them. Some recipies look intimidating, but that's just because they're just so darn gorgeous you assume they have to be hard. Trust me, they're not! This cookbook makes me look like a 5-star chef when in reality, I'm just an amateur SAHM cook that values good taste and fresh ingredients. Some ingredients can be expensive (vanilla beans, specialty cheeses), but they can be easily subsituted for something similar if you can't find it or don't want to spend the money. Love, love, love! I definitely have a few more to try before I buy her next one!

Title: Crave-able bold flavors, approachable recipes, gorgeous photos and story
Review: This cookbook is a great resource for any home cook, both for those who already know HBH and those discovering Tieghan for the first time. I stumbled across HBH a few years ago looking for a beer bread recipe and have been following Tieghan's blog ever since. I've enjoyed everything I made off her blog, so I pre-ordered this hoping to find more of the same amazing, crave-able, doable variety plus great photos of every dish. Unsurprisingly, Teighan exceeded my expectations. The HBH cookbook contains the same mix of healthy and decadent offerings, ranging from meat-y and cheese-y to vegetarian, as the blog does. At first glance, I thought there were a number of recipes that overlapped with the blog, but actually they've all been tweaked (updated? improved?) a little. That 5-ingredient beer bread which first won me over is here, in a different (and better) iteration as a honey beer bread. It tastes even better than the original. The cheesy quinoa bake from her blog is here but again, slightly different (and possibly a little healthier). Similar story for the French onion soup (now Irish French onion soup). The only obvious exceptions are items like the butter chicken, which is on her blog to feature this cookbook release. So far, I've made that beer bread, the amazing corn and blueberry salsa, the BBQ short ribs, the ginger-miso eggplant, and the miso beef and ramen noodle stir-fry (I didn't cook my steak quite as long as she cooks hers). Everything has been exceptional, well-balanced, and totally approachable for any one interested in cooking at home. You'll need some pretty standard spices, and perhaps a bit of patience for long and slow cooking, but otherwise there are no fancy ingredients or expensive kitchen items required to pull these recipes together.Tieghan has a great voice, and interesting story, and shares recipes full of bold flavor that have been clearly well-tested.

Title: Unique Recipes
Review: Love this cookbook. This cookbook has one of my favorite and most desired features when I'm purchasing a new cookbook: Each recipe has its own full-page sized photo of the dish to accompany it. Looking at food presented in beautiful and interesting ways is what makes me want to cook the dish for myself and this book truly delivers. This book is filled with unique and modern recipes that I truly want to try and hope to try in the future, especially when my garden begins to produce this summer. So far I've only made the Sunday Meatballs and they delivered both on ease and flavor. Just a pet peeve on this one though, instructions say to use a 9X13 dish but the photo shows it made in a skillet, please show it as instructed in the directions or change the directions to use a skillet. What I'm not a fan of though is that I don't see any estimated cook times on any of the recipes. When I'm flipping through a book trying to plan something for dinner I'd like to know about how long it is going to take me to make without having to read the entire recipe and do the math for myself. Also, lack of calorie counts, its one of those use your best judgement sort of situations, more cookbooks are going to this and I'm not on board with it.
