Title: not impressed
Review: I tried 2 recipes from this book and was sufficiently disappointed that I will probably not use this book again. The "Four-Spice Fantasies" were completely bland and puffy/cakey in texture rather than chewy, while the "Oatmeal Cinnamon" cookies, though better than the former, were nothing to write home about. People should let me know if any of her other ones are worth trying. Otherwise I now only go to allrecipes.com for user-rated recipes.

Review: I have made several of the recipes from this book and I can honestly say, these are the nicest cookies I have ever had. I'm a reasonably proficient cook, I have made many biscuits from lots of different recipes from many a book claiming to have great recipes. I disagree with the people complaining about cup measurements. First off, you can buy cup measures anywhere these days, it's hardly an obstacle. I'll grant you measuring a cup of butter isn't ideal and unlike American butter, our's isn't sold in convenient half cup sticks. However to save you the trouble, half a cup is 113g. You can work out multiples of that for yourself after that. The only other thing you may find is phrases like 'all purpose flour' (which is plain flour), cake flour (which is a product widely available in America and virtually nowhere else. You can buy it at great expense on amazon, but there's no need. Cake flour is a highly refined flour used to repel moisture and lock ingredients together. I looked it up and learnt that I could swap it exactly with corn flour, like for like. Graham Crackers are used in a couple of recipes, you can use digestives to substitute or chocolate digestives if you want a sweeter result. I can honestly say ignore any negative reviews about 'the american' side. Firstly, cookies are American, what do you expect? Secondly, this is the 21st centruy, you can look anything up with the click of a button. I'm honestly astounded at the impatience of some of the reviewers. I haven't found any other stumbling blocks with these recipes that you might come across. I've written out all the ones to help you I can. Great book.

Review: I bought this book encouraged by the good reviews. However, I am quite disappointed. It must be because I'm writing from Spain, where the metrical decimal system is used.It is easy to translate imperial measures or farenheit degrees into metrical units. I have measuring jars with "cups" marked on the sides, but I am not sure if these are cups in the USA sense. However, it is quite complicated to translate other things like a "tablespoon" or a "bar" of butter. In the end, you end gessing more or less what the author means. Some other times, you must make do with your gessed equivalent, like "German chocolate".Maybe because of that, it is very difficult to get a proper consistency in the cookies, and more often than not I have finished with sponge cake instead cookies, even if I tried the same receipt several times. The ones in the book cover look quite solid. The ones you buy in shops are more firm than mine. The receipts are very easy to follow, and taste is usually good, in fact some of them are really nice, but one would like a bit of specificity. It's a bit telling to have to use internet in order to understand what your book says.
