Title: Cute but needs more recipes
Review: I saw this book just after last Christmas and bought it to start our own family traditions. I love to bake and figured making some of the recipes and reading the book each year with my kid would make for some nice holiday memories. As far as the books itself goes, it's beautifully illustrated and well written, it probably won't hold the attention of the smallest children, but it's a good book to grow with your family.Onto the recipes: The recipes are not bad, in fact the few I have tried are pretty tasty, however: 1) there's not enough of them 2) If you have a picky eater these are probably not for your family (9 recipes total: 3 recipes feature coconut, 4 include nuts) 3) beginner bakers might have a hard time with this book (I've had to make modifications to each recipe so far, I typically search the recipe on the web to see if any alternative versions exist). We're probably going to add a couple pages of additional recipes to the end of our book and really make it our own.

Title: FUN & supports teaching Social Studies and Science
Review: GREAT book!!! My 2nd grade students LOVED it!!! They were begging me to read it each day. I read from a different continent each time. There is a map that shows the the route they are taking. It was perfect for discussing different traditions and reinforced our continental studies. Plus, we talked about the different time zones and the weather in the northern and southern hemispheres. Also, used it to help explain how St. Nicholas can travel around the world in 1 night. 😉

Title: Interesting book, and comes with recipes!
Review: I gave this to my nephew and niece at thanksgiving. I read it to a group of kids and the 3 and 5 year olds were especially engaged in it. The photos are vibrant and there’s a lot going on each page that they wanted to look at and ask questions about. Some of the pages are dense to read, but it’s all so interesting and new that they didn’t lose interest. Some of the words are hard to pronounce of course, so I either breezed through them with fake confidence or said “cookies” instead, or whatever English word it was replacing. Little did I know as I read that the parents were listening around the corner taking notes on which cookies they wanted to look up and make. They were thrilled when I told them all the recipes are in the back of the book! And if you’re wondering, I didn’t notice anything in this book that might cause inquisitive minds to ask Santa questions (if you know what I mean). All in all it’s a great book about a global tradition and the intersection of many cultures that partake in it =)

Title: Class inclusion
Review: I bought this book for my class. I am the first grade and kindergarten interventionist and as a treat for my little ones hard work I read books the last five minutes of our time together. This book was so cool that my little ones wanted to try the cookies. I did not make the cookies for them but definitely will next year so that they can taste test.

Review: A very nice book on Christmas baked treats tradition around the world. It would have been nice to have something from sub-saharan Africa. Other than that, an allround informative book and very colorful too with great illustrations.
