Title: Really Really great recipes!
Review: I made 10 different types of cupcakes w/frostings for a 4th of July Barbecue. ALL were a huge hit. The ESPRESSO, CHOCOLATE CREME and CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER were the biggest hits. Since all were made as MINI cupcakes and bite size, people tried multiple flavors. I made and stamped little signs identifying each type- as can be seen in the first photo and later as a closeup. FIRST- I use the back of a slotted spoon to punch a hole in each cupcake for fillings (2nd photo). LEMON cupcakes were filled with lemon curd and topped with the lemon frosting from the book. CHOCOLATE CREME were filled the yummy Marshmallow creme recipe suggested- this was AMAZING! The chocolate frosting from the book made it easy. I sprinkled Red white and Blue sprinkles on top. ESPRESSO cupcakes were filled with their mascarpone/espresso granules/10X sugar with extra espresso granules mixed in and topped with the delicious frosting suggested in the book. SO yummy- I could eat that filling/frosting by the spoonful! I shaved a chocolate coffee bar on top. The BLUEBERRY LEMON were filed with blueberry jam and a bit of their lemon frosting with extra lemon zest added to it - and I used their lemon frosting recipe & then topped with a fresh blueberry to finish each off. The CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER was the basic chocolate recipe and topped with the suggested peanut butter frosting topped with 2 salted peanut pieces and a red or blue chocolate covered peanut candy (yes that Brand name). CHOCOLATE MINT were made from their MINTY FUDGE cup recipe and frosting. A small amount of Peppermint extract was added to the batter and frosting - then frosted with chocolate frosting with tiny pieces of chocolate creme de menthe candy pieces placed in -as specified in the recipe. SO GOOD. The CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY (chocolate Ganache mini cakes recipe) were filled with unseeded raspberry jam, frosted with chocolate frosting instead of the ganache (as I had extra from the other cupcakes I had frosted) with a fresh raspberry half with red/white & blue sprinkles on each. A pleasant surprise was the ORANGE SODA cupcakes which I used as the basis with two types of fillings n the cupcakes. One type was filled with orange marmalade and topped with their ORANGE BUTTERCREAM (with extra orange zest added) and then topped with a piece of orange peel that I had soaked overnight in a Tablespoon of Grand Marnier liquor. The other ORANGE SODA cupcake was filled with that same orange buttercream and orange sprinkles on top. I left a few of each type UN-FROSTED as not everyone likes frosting. To identify each flavor combo I made little signs. stamped with fireworks stamps & that I adhered to toothpicks - which were then placed in one cupcake in each container. FINALLY- I took a picture of the book along with ALL the TABS I placed in it for recipes that I want to try- I always go thru a new cookbook and do that- there were SO MANY in this book!!! All that I tried so far were EXCELLENT. Absolutely no complaints! BEST cookbook I have bought in a long time!

Title: Lots of different recipes and decorating tips
Review: So happy with this cookbook. The first chapter has basic cupcake and frosting recipes with no frills. The following chapters are chock full with interesting recipes and decorating ideas. The flavors are exciting and fun and I can't wait to make more cupcakes more often. The decorating ideas are fun and not so complicated that I won't be able to achieve a reasonable likeness to the pictures. The recipes give extra tips and tell you how you can use a box of cake mix if you don't want to make them from scratch. The one recipe I've tried so far (candy bar cupcakes) was extremely easy. The most complicated things I had to do was separate eggs and test for doneness with a toothpick. Some of the recipes use the basic cupcake / frosting recipe and then add other ingredients to make them different & original.I would definitely recommend this cookbook for anyone who likes to bake but is tired of the same old boring recipes.*******Update 11.01.11 - I've been making cupcakes about twice a month now since I've purchased this book and get rave reviews for each new recipe. The added ingredients definitely change the flavors and the decorating (so far) is a snap.I would recommend if you're going to start making cupcakes more often that you buy a few accessories to make putting the batter into the pan and frosting easier. I've purchased a simple decorating bag with two different large tips - with this I can frost 24 cupcakes in minutes and they look professional. I also love the 'batter scoops' I've purchased. It helps ensure that my cupcakes are of a consistent size - which again makes them look prettier in the end.

Title: Not what I was expecting but still a good cookbook
Review: This cookbook was not quite what I was expecting. The description says that both recipes and decorating ideas are included but I guess I was expecting a ton of recipes and then a coordinating fun way to decorate each one. Instead half of the book is dedicated to interesting recipes and the other half is decorating ideas on how to turn a standard chocolate or vanilla flavored cupcake into a bug or flower etc. I'm more into spending time on the flavor than on the decoration but my cupcakes are also generally not ones for special occasions or kids and I whip them up on a weeknight so I'm not going to spend 10 minutes decorating each cupcake. However, that being said, the decorating ideas are cute, wide ranging, detailed, have lots of pictures and they may come in handy to me in the future. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet so I can't comment on if they're tasty or not but they look to be laid out well with simple to follow instructions. I'm not a fan of using boxed cake mix in my cupcakes but it's a nice addition to have that option included if you're not the type to go from scratch. Overall, I'm still happy with this cookbook and look forward to trying out the recipes.
