Honesty is the best policy, but not always the Best Defence
When the wife of a soccer superstar is charged with murder, Robbie Munro is instructed for the defence, but his client’s version of events keeps changing as more and more damaging evidence is revealed.
Meanwhile, Robbie’s brother, Malky, falls victim to the cancel culture, and insists Robbie step in to save his TV career.
Both Robbie’s clients have their own strategies, but it’s up to Robbie to decide the Best Defence.
Based in Scotland and drawing on the author’s thirty years as a criminal defence lawyer, Best Defence is the latest in series of legal thrillers featuring defence lawyer Robbie Munro, in which William McIntyre turns fact into fiction. Described as an antidote to maverick cops chasing serial killers, the series emphasises that justice is not only about convicting the guilty, but also about acquitting the innocent.

Title: A very enjoyable series
Review: I have read all books in this series and enjoyed each one. McIntyre has done well in creating a protagonist who is both irritating and loveable at the same time. There is a good blend of legal and personal/family issues here in the several story threads (one smaller one did end abruptly and disappointingly though, in my view, and I would have preferred to see some comeuppance). Although there is one core thread, none of the others presents as filler material. I also like the author's sense of humour, seen here again in spades. As for the flip side, far too many typos for my liking, but this won't stop me grabbing the next in the series.

Review: Having read all of the previous books in this series, I think this is probably the best of all. (I'd need to read all the previous ones again to get rid of the 'probably'.) The final twists of the plot are witty and superb, and there are loads of twists and turns all the way through the story. Very well worth reading. This is a genuine review though I'm said to be the No 1 fan in Scotland.

Review: Another cracker from Scotland s leading lawyer focussed crime writer .Robbie Munro has his hands full at home and at work as he unravels a murderous mess and struggles with the restrictions imposed on defence lawyers by the law of evidence which fails to allow contextualisation for juries. How can he get them to hear what they need to hear in spite of the legal straightjacket ?What s best....you decide...as Robbie must .
