When a mysterious illness begins to sweep through Noctem Falls affecting the children, Eleanor Kimball is called to the city to see if she can determine what is wrong. As a pediatrician Eleanor loves children and desires many of her own, however, after several dating disasters she has not only sworn off men, but has given up her dream of a family, and the promise of a destined mate.
After discovering Grant in Noctem Falls she is faced with her own insecurities and finds it hard to believe in his love.
Grant Douglas is a man of few words and doesn’t do well surrounded by others. He is scared to death of finding a mate. He believes the harshness of his past, where he struggled to survive, didn’t cultivate a gentle heart. After a series of terrifying nightmares where his mate is at risk, Grant has decided he doesn’t want a mate at all.
When he meets Ellie, he realizes there are some things worth fighting for. Even if it means putting himself out there by becoming the Alpha he was born to be and facing the power he desperately tries to hide.
As Ellie starts to believe in Grant’s love it will take every ounce their combined strength to discover why the shifter children are suddenly falling ill before it’s too late.

Title: Another awesome addition to an amazing series!
Review: My heart breaks for Grant, to be thrown out at such a young age and he had to teach himself everything including how to talk :*( I shed a few tears while reading about his past and I was so glad that he did find true family that loved him! I love Ellie first off she's an elephant shifter (so cool) she's a BBW (arenât we all) and she seems to be just perfect for Grant and for what the city needs right now. She was a great character to introduce and I loved the relationship between them and between their (Spoiler) adopted child. I think Alanea does an amazing job of balancing the sad and scary moments with hilarious and fun moments that makes you feel more engaged with the story and has you laughing out loud and crying at the same time. Meryn is the same olâ Meryn but that is why you love her and each book I grow to love her even more. I LOVE this series and I canât wait for even more additions (especially Keelans story, Wink wink nudge nudge)Looking for more books and reviews? Check out my blog Whenireadilive @blogspot

Title: HEARTACHINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! AND YOU BETTER GRAB TWO BOXES OF TISSUES FOR THIS ONE!!!
Review: Title: My DefenderSeries: Bewitched & BewilderedAuthor: Alanea AlderDesignation: Book Eight of Series, Full-Length, **Can Be Read As Standalone, No Cliffhanger #paranormalromance #fantasy #shifters #vampires #fae #witches #sprites #adultcontentMy Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*******Each book of the Bewitched and Bewildered series features a different couple finding love along with their very own happy ending and can technically be read as a standalone. However, there are recurring characters and an underlying interconnected conflict that play a major part in all the books, therefore to avoid spoilers, I highly recommend reading the books sequentially.OMG! I loved, loved, loved My Defender. Alder's books are like crack for us paranormal romance junkies! I can see it now: Room in a church basement, a circle of chairs, surrounded by a group of grim faces, and I stand and say, "Hello, my name is Judy and I'm an Alanea Alder paranormal romance addict!" lol... All joking aside, Alder's books really are addictive. They're like potato chips; you can't stop with just one! This is the eighth book of the series and each story gets better and better! I can hardly wait to dive into the ninth! lol... I love unique paranormal romance, addicted to danger, action, adventure & suspense, completely smitten with sexy, alpha heroes, adore sassy, courageous heroines, and there's nothing I enjoy more than a few mind-bending plot twists along with a generous infusion of laugh-out-loud humor, but when I can get it all in one exceptionally well-crafted and beautifully written book, I'm in absolute heaven! And that's exactly what Alanea Alder delivered - AGAIN - in My Defender, the eighth full-length paranormal romance in her riveting and highly imaginative Bewitched & Bewildered Series. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Was it perfect? No, but it was perfect for me. There were a few little boo-boos missed in the editing process, but nothing that distracted me from the story. Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language, some violence, and steamy, dreamy sex. Will I read this author again? Absolutely which is probably the best recommendation I can give! As a matter of fact, after completing the first book of this series, I raced back to Amazon and purchased the remaining nine books and signed up for her newsletter, which speaks volumes as to how much I enjoyed this author's work! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my chair, white-knuckling my ereader, my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the pages flew as quickly as the time! The series takes a bit of a turn in Book 6 when Unit Commander Aiden McKenzie and his firecracker mate Meryn leave Lycaonia to visit vampire pillar city Noctem Falls, Naturally, they are accompanied by Meryn's squire Sei Ryuu and, of course, Felix the sprite along with former Noctem Falls resident Elizabeth Monroe and her mate Gavriel Ambrosios. Then in Book 8, they are joined by Colton, Rhei, Kendrick, and Anne. Aiden, Meryn, Ryuu, Felix, Beth, Gavriel, Colton, Rheia, Kendrick, and Anne are all recurring characters readers have gotten to know in the previous books of the series and always add so much to each story. We're also introduced to an entire new cast of intriguing characters in Book 6 but the primary couple in this story is enigmatic unit warrior wolf-shifter Grant Douglas and kindhearted elephant-shifter Doctor Eleanor 'Ellie' Kimball, world-renowned pediatrician and medical researcher. I fell in love with the fierce, stoic, man-of-few-words, and always scowling Grant Douglas though he's also a bit of a mystery. But once again, wait until you find out who and what he his! Oh my! Shhh... No spoilers from me. And the sweet, shy, humble and extremely self critical Ellie is the epitome of keen intelligence, generosity, kindness, and heartwarming devotion to children and those she loves, like her lovely grandmother, retired nurse Marjarom Johanson, who accompanies Ellie to Noctem Falls, is an absolute delight. At first glance, Grant and Ellie appear to be total opposites but were so perfect for each other! Ellie was just the woman to see the gentle, generous, kind soul beneath the layers of Grant's stern nature and self-doubt! Both of their stories just broke my heart and one-year-old orphaned toddler Benji was soooo adorable! Sigh... So dreamy! And naturally, Meryn 'the menace', her minions Jaxson and Noah, along with her two newly adopted twin 'baby Keelans' provide loads of laughter and shenanigans galore! And once again, this story ripped my heart out of my chest! I snickered, snorted, sniffled, snuffled, chuckled, and outright ugly cried through the entire story! This one will really tug on your heartstrings! But just a little warning, folks, don't start this book unless you have plenty of time; you will not want to stop until you reach the last page. I should know; I've spent the last week binge-reading the entire series and falling asleep holding my Kindle every night! lol... Alanea Alder, you're killing me! If you enjoy perilous danger, intense drama, agonizing angst, pulse-pounding action, nail-biting suspense, side-splitting humor, heartwarming romance, and a few mind-blowing plot twists that you'll never see coming, then this book is screaming your name. Extraordinary world building, exceptional character introduction/development, along with skilled plot progression make this series a fabulous, can't-put-down read! Thanks for the recommendation Fran Zoch!

Title: Beautiful addition to the series
Review: Wonderful addition to the Bewitched and Bewildered series. I love this author and this series. The storylines continue to have ingenuity, depth, and humor. It has intensity since we continue to deal with supernatural elements that surprise and intrigue. This book is about Grant and Eleanor (Ellie). Ellie is a doctor and comes to Noctem Falls to help with an illness that is affecting the children there. She meets Grant who is helping care for the children and has an interesting backstory himself. I love this story because it is about not just trying to heal the children but also about this couple learning to love themselves. I won't say anymore because I don't want to give too much away but this is a great read and I definitely recommend it. Happy Reading.

Title: SUPERB
Review: I have been eagerly (and I mean eagerly) awaiting My Defender Book 8 in the Bewitched and Bewildered series. It was worth the wait and then some. I just found this series a couple of months ago and from the first book it quickly became one of my all time favorite series (I also should mention I was not really a paranormal fan prior to this series, but reading it, I could not help but love EVERYTHING about it).My Defender centers around quiet but lovable Grant Douglas finding his mate in Dr. Eleanor Kimball. I fell so hard for both Grant and Ellie. I do not like to give specific spoilers in my reviews, but I will say that My Defender still finds us in the city of Noctem Falls with Meryn, Aiden, Beth and Gavriel (and ofcourse Ryuu) from Lycaconia still assisting Prince Magnus and the Unit Warriors (and the mates we have previously met). This book centers on discovering what is making the shifter children sick. If you are a fan of this series then a one-click of this book is a necessity. If you have never read this series, it is without a doubt a MUST read in my opinion, but you will need to begin with the first book (My Commander) and read each book in the series prior to reading My Defender. It has extremely hot alphas (shifters, vampires, witches and fae), feisty and sassy heroines (Meryn continues to be one of my all time favorite characters in any genre), humor (some of the funniest scenes I have ever read), great (hot) sex scenes, terrific characters and such interesting stories. Trust me when I say you will become hooked on this series and not want to put any book down including My Defender which just continues the brilliance of the Bewitched and Bewildered series and I cannot wait for what is next.

Review: Wow, Ms Alanea Alder has done it again. She has delivered another amazing and powerful story.. Ellie and Grant couldn't be more perfect for one another.. This book will make you laugh and cry. Ellie is a pediatrician who comes to Noctem Falls to see to the wolf children who have taken ill with a mysterious illness. What she doesn't expect is to meet her mate. Grant is a wolf unit warrior in Noctem Falls. The last thing is expects is the new pediatrician to be his mate but now that he has met Ellie nothing will stop him from claiming and protecting her. This is the 8th book of the series and it is an absolute read.. Ms Alanea Alder just gets better with each new book she writes and this one in no exception.

Review: I'll start of by saying that this is my favourite series of all the ones i'm currently reading. Alder is a skilled writer able to curate an entire world out of a few myths and legends. One of the things I love about this series is the complexity and the relate-ability. Whilst we will unfortunately never be shifters or fae, we all have insecurities and hang ups. Alder triumphs where other writers fall short and has created imperfect characters. Often in this genre angsty characters are created that you end up getting tired of, because the whole novel can't make up its mind. Alder on the other hand has a clear purpose and sticks to it effortlessly creating characters that you want to read about. Now onto the book you're hear to find out about. It has her usual spark of individuality, that marries up perfectly with her imaginative plot lines. When I think I've read it all Alder comes out of no where and gives me something I didn't know I wanted. You might think that an illness spreading is pretty generic, however reading it from her is something new. You may say that this is something she's done in her Arkadia series, which she has, but once again it's compleatly different.Grant and Ellie are compleatly different to every other couple we've met so far, but that does't mean their not perfect together. Both of them are insecure and in the book that translates to them taking a while to get to know each other. Especially since their always helping others. This, for me, made the book a bit slow and i was eager to jump into the action. The blurb says that Grant doesn't want a mate, however that doesn't actually translate into the novel. Dispite their insecurities the couple were comfortable around each other and definitely accepted each other, but they didn't address issues in the same way that the previous novels have.It was a much sweeter meeting of mates and her interaction with the Nocturm Falls unit members and mates were like she settled in perfectly. If anything buy it for more Meryn, you always need more Meryn. Plus more of your favourite characters will arrive and the usual antics had me in stitches. Whilst i miss Bart from the Duck Inn, i'm willing to accept that if they can go to another city once they've finished in Nocturm Falls and solved the illness problems. Possibly addressing the king and queen issues we learnt about with Kendrick.
