Title: Great book
Review: This book is a must for all coaches. It explains the Carolina system. Which history has proven has been a good system. The book explains alot. It answers questions that you have not even thought of yet. The special section by Bob Spear of the Air Force Academy was wonderful. It explained the shuffle offense to perfection. If you are a coach and looking for an offense to run, read this section on the shuffle. You will like this offense and all the variations that are well explained in this section. The one thing that could be explained more is the famed Carolina 4 corners. They could have discussed it more, and given more examples of how it works. That is the only negative of the book. The motion offense and it's rules are explained in great detail. If you are looking for a zone offense, take a look at the triple post offense. The different defenses are explained very well. Smith's famous run and jump defenses are diagrammed and explained in great detail, along with their other defenses This book shows you how you can set up your style for your team. I am constantly referring back to this book during the season.

Title: Awesome
Review: This book is a great foundation to build off of. I love playing basketball, but never truly understood the basics of team defense until I read this book. The basics are covered in this book and it has a lot of drills to engrain the tactics taught throughout. You have to dissect and actually study the book to get the most out of it, I did a lot of highlighting. It is a bit older so everything might not still apply, but the majority of the things taught still translate very well. Should be in every beginner coaches library.

Title: Fantastic book
Review: I can't recommend the book enough so far as the contents go. I only deduct one star, because I am disappointed by the quality of the paperback version. It is extremely flimsy, so much so that they had to specially wrap it for shipping shrink-wrapped against a piece of cardboard and even then the cover is slightly bent in places and I can tell over time it is going to get messed up very easily. The copy I first found in the library was a hardcover, and now I am thinking I might want to get a hardcover version even if I have to get a used one that is an older edition.Anyway, the reader should be aware that terminology varies between different coaches and changes over time. In particular, what is usually referred to as a "motion offense", Coach Smith calls the "free-lance passing game" in this book.

Title: Great for learning X and Os
Review: I picked this up when I started calling basketball games for the Temple University Women's Basketball Team. I knew basketball, but I really wanted to know it the way a coach, player, or color analyst did. This book was a tremendous help and I impressed a lot of people with the knowledge I pulled out of this book. The book was actually recommended to me by Jay Bilas, analyst for ESPN and CBS Sports.

Review: Here it is folks. The greatest coach of all time, at the greatest program of all time, spilling his secrets, strategies, and basketball philosophy. Dean Smith is a famously intelligent man. Genius level IQ, and very detailed approach and explanations for the concepts of the Carolina way. This is a system that has worked better than any other for more than 40 years.
