Review: My spouse is a wonderful cook, and she makes healthy foods, but she has a tendency to heap food on my plate. I ordered this product as a way to continue eating the healthy foods I think are good for my diet, but to get a sense of what true portions should be, and to provide visual help for anyone preparing my plate. The Meal Measurer does that job perfectly, and it is something you can use at family dinner or with friends over without embarrassment because you use your own dishes instead of marked bowls or divided plates that call attention to your dieting. Another thing I like is that all the cups are marked for full or half portions, and it specifically calls out your "starch" portion so you can't fill all the holes with mashed potatoes and call them "vegetables/fruit". I think this is an affordable, easy to use and clean product that anyone needing to watch their portion control should add to their kitchen. It is dishwasher safe and that alone makes it even more appealing.

Title: A good basic portion control aid
Review: I am trying to stick to a better eating program, and bought this measurement tool to help with working out correct portion sizes for different food types.The Meal Measure is well made and very durable, and it fits on my dinner plates well. Personally I find the portion sizes when filled to the (level) top, to actually be too large. So I use the halfway mark that is conveniently marked on the tool.I think the protein section would be more accurate if it were an enclosed piece rather than being a semi-circle, meant to represent a piece of meat the size of "a deck of cards". I find it is somewhat ambiguous to measure properly.Overall the Meal Measure does give me a basic indication of how much to serve myself and covers most of the major food groups, so although it isn't perfect, it does a good job in keeping my portions to a reasonable and more healthy amount.

Title: OK when your meal fits the cutouts...
Review: I bought this as a gift for my mother (Diabetes II) who has terrible difficulty (or stubbornly refuses) with moderation at mealtime. This is a wonderful tool for many "pliable" foods that can be put or shaped into the little circles.Here are the frustrations my mother had with this product or suggestions she offered, that made me take a couple stars away.~There are 4 dividers that assume you will have 4 separately sectioned portions to your meal: This is not helpful if you are building a salad or making casserole (something my mother is crazy about...I'm guessing it's a generational or mid-western comfort food thing?) or any other meal that maybe integrates 2 or more of these sections together.~If she chooses to have a soup, there is no option on what a proper portion size is (yes, she knows there are serving sizes on the can, but for her...this was supposed to take the guess work out and make portioning very easy). A suggestion of maybe a serving cup to accompany this product for people who are a bit lazier about portion control?~She loves Papa Murphy's Pizza! She was a bit disappointed that the portion control sections of this plate weren't accommodating for differently shaped meals. Her pizza cannot fit in the little holes unless she squishes them in there.All in all, I know this product can work for some, but for the people who buy this because they aren't any good at portion control and expect it to meet ALL their portioning needs, it's a little limiting. For my mom, it is just ok, because it is helpful for meals that fit within the cutouts, but it just sits abandoned in the cupboard if she has something that fits "outside the circles." So...if all your meals are protein, veg, carb, veg/fruit...then this could be fantastic for you. If you are like the rest of us and like a little variety, this will be just one of many portioning tools you will want to keep in your arsenal of tools.

Title: Helpful guideline
Review: This item is a helpful item for portion control. I use it as a guideline. If your plate isn't flat, things will seep under. My nutritionist tells me to "eyeball" serving sizes. I use this occasionally to help verify I am close to the goal and make sure my eyeballs aren't getting me into trouble. The only way to be sure every time is to use scales, measuring spoons, and measuring cups for accuracy. I just don't have the time or desire to be honest. This, however, is easy. Cleanup is a breeze. If you need perfect measures...this item is not for you. If you want reassurance and help in staying in check, this is a good alternative if you have flat plates. IF you are measuring something that is more liquid than solid....stick to a measuring cup. This will not work for that.

Review: I really like this product, I needed something simple to use to encourage portion control but that didn't make me feel like I was dieting. This product literally couldn't be simpler to use, literally just put it on your plate, dish up and go. Perfect. Easy to clean as well & dishwasher safe, it is quite big though, I was quite surprised, each portion space is a measuring cup size (marked at 1/2 cup size as well)
