A lavishly illustrated banquet of style, elegance, and taste, this is a who's who of the most glamorous men and women around the world, the ultimate treasury of fashion inspiration.
This sumptuous volume--the ultimate sourcebook for fashion mavens, Instagram followers, and celebrity worshippers--presents the complete history of the much-lauded and highly visible International Best-Dressed List (IBDL) launched by Eleanor Lambert, "Godmother of Fashion," in 1940. The List has become a barometer of style and the highest honor a sartorial savant can receive, and today it's an ongoing record of the world's most glamorous women and men from society, royalty, Hollywood, celebrity, fashion, art, culture, sports, and media. These gorgeous "swans" of elegance, influence, and grace are gathered here in the most comprehensive survey ever published.
This rich story is told by insider and IBDL Hall-of-Famer Amy Fine Collins through her encyclopedic knowledge, exclusive insights, and countless entertaining anecdotes about the behind-the-scenes goings-on--Lambert was offered kickbacks and bribes of up to $50,000 by list aspirants--that shed light on the selection process, the vibrant personalities (not to mention egos) of the chosen, and the zeitgeist of the times.
For sixty years, Lambert was queen of the International Best-Dressed List. In 2002, she formally ceded the reins to Graydon Carter, Amy Fine Collins, Reinaldo Herrera, and Aimée Bell.

Review: This beautiful book covers the International Best Dressed List and more! It is also a scholarly, well-researched volume on the history of fashion from the 1930s to the 2000s. Amy Fine Collins is an eloquent writer with an encyclopedic knowledge of fashion. She gives us insider insights and amusing anecdotes from the fashion world. The book includes dozens of stunning photographs, each with a helpful, descriptive caption. It makes a great gift for anyone interested in fashion, style, or social history. Title: A treasure of fashion and social history
Review: This book by Amy Fine Collins is a must-buy for any lover of fashion â but it goes far beyond style and clothes. The book's many intensely researched captions and descriptions reveal incredible stories about some of the influential men and women of bygone times, at a time when a select few people were social arbiters and household names without the self-promotion and constant social media posts of today's so-called influencers. The book is also a remarkable story of how changing social mores are reflected in the way people dress, and the importance of personal style in "creating your brand" --long before such a term existed. A lovely Christmas gift and a great reference book to have on your shelf.

Title: Just Okay
Review: I was hoping the book would have more pictures in general, but particularly more photos and information about the less well-known members of the list. More about their style. More insights. Most of the photos are ho-hum commonly seen photos of well-known celebrities. It was fine, and is a nice quick browse, but not a lot of substance and not worth the price.
