The Drill America DWD29J-CO-PC Qualtech jobber length drill bit set contains 29 cobalt steel drill bits with gold oxide finish in inch sizes 1/16" to 1/2" (1/64" increments). A self-centering 135-degree split point penetrates hard material without a pilot hole and produces smaller chips that reduce clogging compared to a 118-degree point. Cobalt steel provides extended tool life compared to high-speed steel drill bits, and maintains the tool's toughness and hardness in high drilling temperatures. A gold oxide finish acts as a lubricant and provides wear resistance, and the round shank accommodates most drill chucks. The set comes in a plastic index case with labeled compartments for identification and organization. Drill bits conform to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards.
Drill bits are cutting tools used to make holes in a range of materials using machines such as handheld portable drills, machining centers, and lathes. Drill bits come in a variety of lengths and types, the most common of which is the twist drill bit. The round, twisted shaft of the twist drill bit typically has two cutting edges and flutes. The helical twist of the flutes brings chips up and away from the cutting edges and allows for coolant to reach the cutting edges. Jobber length twist drill bits, the most common length of twist drill bit, offer a good compromise of length and reach to work with the widest range of materials and applications. Mechanic's length twist drill bits (also called maintenance length) are a little shorter than jobber length and less prone to deflection when drilling. Short length twist drill bits (also called stub or screw-machine length) are the shortest and stiffest twist drill bits, helping to reduce the chance of deflection or breakage when drilling. Reduced shank drill bits (also called Silver and Deming drill bits) have a shank that is smaller in diameter than its shaft, permitting drilling machines with either a 1/2" or 3/4" drill chuck to create large holes. Long length twist drill bits (also called taper length) are a little longer than jobber length, allowing for deeper holes and longer reach. Extra long twist drill bits (also called extension) are longer than long length twist drill bits for greater reach or for drilling deeper holes.
Drill America manufactures cutting tools such as drill bits, taps, dies, counterbores, countersinks, end mills, and reamers. The company, founded in 1927, is headquartered in Miami, FL.

Title: Sharp
Review: Good bits. Not the best on the market but did the job drilling Metal just fine. Drilled about 80 holes in 1/4 inch steel with 5/16 bit. Had to sharpen the bit but it sharpened well and went right back to work. I had been buying Name brand, Dewalt and Irwin etc...at home depot. The are so cheaply made anymore (China I think) they go dull after one hole and do not sharpen well. Never again. I don't know where these are made but they are pretty good quality for the money.

Title: Bits
Review: These drill bits get the job done! I was having a hard time drilling out a broken bolt with other drill bits and these did the trick! They cut into the broken bolt with ease making it easier to tap threads.

Title: Got it on sale for 72$ when it was originally 89$
Review: Great value. I use these often enough. Super durable. If you use them on a literal daily I’d prefer you get a drill bit sharpener so you are always good to go.

Title: Good for the price
Review: I already have a complete (115 pc) set of Chicago-Latrobe 550, which are also Cobalt, 135 deg, split-point, straw-finished bits. I bought the Drill America bits as a lower-cost complement for work where I want the extra hardness, heat resistance, and sharpenability (more on this below) of Cobalt but don't want to risk breaking my good bits. The bottom line is that while the Drill America bits aren't up to the level of the 550s, they're as good as or better than expected for the price.I've used onee of these bits top drill holes in annealed O1 tool steel plate, and it held up as well as you'd expect from Cobalt HSS, though maybe a little worse than I'd expect from the C-Ls. The C-L 550s are M42 Cobalt HSS, and it would be interesting to know if these are M42 or M35 - I suspect the latter.Where the Drill Americas come up a bit short is in quality/precision of grinding, with two noticeable issues: The trailing face of a split-point bit should ideally meet the cutting edge at a point, though in reality all manufacturers leave a tiny chisel point to allow for machining tolerances (i.e. the split doesn't quite intersect the cutting edge). Those residual chisel points are noticeably (50-100%) larger on the Drill America bits than on the Chicago-Latrobes, though both are MUCH smaller than the chisel point on a conventional bit, and both are small enough to avoid wandering.A more serious issue is that a couple of the smaller bits are mis-ground such that the trailing edge of the splitting edge is almost on top of the bit's cutting edge, leaving a very thin flute. Both of the grinding issues are foregivable in my opinion both because of the low cost of the bits, and because the key benefits of cobalt bits is that they derive their hardness from bulk material properties rather than from a coating (oxide, TiN, TiAlN, etc). You can grind them over and over and they remain as durable as when new. If you have a Drill Doctor or drill-bit grinding fixture that can do split points then these are a no-brainer.

Title: A MUST PURCHASE. ALL OTHERS SUBPAR
Review: For years I purchased the titanium bits from Lowe’s. I always hated to do any drilling in any type steel. Well I discovered why the titanium bits suck. I bought these as I had 1/4” hardened steel to drill through (8 - 12 holes to be exact and wanted to make the job tolerable. So happy I purchased these bits. Cost a bit more then titanium bits but made the job so easy. These bits cut through steel like butter on the very first drill to tha last. The 12th hole was just as easy as the 1st. These hold their sharpness and wished I’d known about these years ago. Don’t second guess this purchase just Do it. You will never go back to a Lowes brand bit.

Title: Broken bits
Review: For the amount of money I paid for these bits, I had three to come in a Ziploc bag with three of the broken bits in it. There are other missing bits as well. Beware of this item. This is to much money for it to arrive broken in a Ziploc bag!

Review: These bits are very sharp and can cut a variety of materials. Just make sure you don’t push too hard on the bit. Let the bit do the work.Take care.

Review: Look no further! If you are thinking about buying these, don't hesitate. You cannot ask for more out of these drill bits, long lasting and the carrying case is super convenient. I wished the marking of the size of the bits could be a little bit more visible, but that's nitpicking. Easy for the manufacturer to improve on the next iteration that comes out.

Review: Decent. So far they work well. Stickers on case are amusing. Rust proof case. The case is plastic so I hope it doesn't rust.
