Title: Excellent emergency radio with great sound.
Review: This unit came as a surprise. I tried four different emergency radios and was unhappy with all of them. Prices range from $45 to $150. Features buried from set to set, but they all had one thing in common, lousy sound. They all strip away mids and lows to conserve battery power. The trade-off is just plain terrible sound. I figured I would have to live with that sound, but I was wrong. I tried one more emergency radio, and that is the Eton Sidekick. The first thing I noticed was the vastly improved audio quality over the other units I tried. Just flat-out great sound. Next thing I noticed was the excellent flashlight and panel light. They are really really bright, and can be dimmed. The radio reception is superb on all bands. The only issue is the selection buttons being a little hard to read under the solar cell panel. They are illuminated though, and after you use the radio for a short time, you memorize them anyway. The Bluetooth works great, as does the S.A.M.E. and NOAA alert systems. Battery life is good and you can charge them my USB, solar panel, or crank. You can charge your phone or tablet with this device. It has many other features that make this an excellent choice for home, or when camping.

Title: Full featured Camping or Home Emergency Radio
Review: This is a super handy, full featured camping or ho e emergency radio. The unit has many cool features like bluetooth, S.A.ME. alert technology, Weather broadcast channels, as well as a hand crank charger, solar cell changer and a USB port for charging your cell phone. Not to mention a 3 lights, and AM and FM radio with memory chanels. Some of theses features I was unaware of when a purchased the radio. The first thing I tried was bluetooth. It connected instantly to my iPhone and the play/pause worked flawlessly. Another cool feature in BT mode was the tuning knob. It scrolled through you songs. The speaker was surprisingly strong. The ambient light is a cool feature. It lit up my desk surprising well. The red and white lights worked as well as my cellphone light. A good way to conserve you cell phone battery while camping. The Weather Band was super easy for me to set up. Press the WB button and scroll through the channels. I found my local WB broadcast within seconds. There wasn't severe weather at the tie of the review, so I cold not test the WB alert, but the concept is cool.I did some battery charging experiments with my cellphone at an 18% charge level and the Sidekick at a fully charged level. In 15minutes the charge on my phone increased 6%. That seamed to be consistant for every 15 minutes as after an hour the Sidekick added 24% to my battery. I did not try any internal battery charging experiments with the hand crank or the solar panel, but the user manual says the solar panel will fully charge the internal battery in 14-16Hrs.Another interesting feature is the S.A.M.E. emergency alert technology. The unit allows you to preset up to 25 different counties in your areas, or maybe different areas you may be interested in. The radio will alert you when there are emergencies broad cast by NOAA or the Emergency Alert System (EAS) in the counties that you have selected. Until I purchase this radio I was unaware of this broadcast service. I went onto Wikipedia to get the full explanation of the technology and the broadcast system. I will probably get another one of the radios to keep at my house. Finally, the manual was extremely well written and clear. I was so happy to see this. A lot of times when I get a device with many technical features the manuals are written poorly in broken English.

Title: Disposable device without user replaceable antenna, battery door weakness, and poor FM reception
Review: Update: I exchanged for a different unit. The replacement FM reception was good for 95.9 without the antenna extended. Keeping the replacement even with the antenna design flaw and battery door weakness. Having this is better than nothing at all. The concept is great and the package is overall put together very well. However, during the end times or unrest, I do not think this is will make it in the long run.Pros:- Rechargeable battery that comes with it is end-user replaceable.- Compact design that isn't too small and well put together. To clarify my cons:- Even when fully extended, the radio reception was marginally improved. I tried a local NJ station 95.9 which should have worked fully extended. It faintly came in. This applied to a lot of other FM stations that should have come through. At the bare minimum as a campsite radio, FM music should have worked. AM was fine extended but faintly came in while retracted. NOAA worked without antenna extended. Nothing on the SW regardless of antenna position.- Even worse, the antenna does not appear to be end-user replaceable. My prior SW models had an antenna that can be unscrewed and replaced. This does not appear to be the case.- The battery compartment is held on with a very fine Phillips screw that started stripping after first use inserting the AAA lithium batteries. Not sure how many cycles of open / close this door will last. There is a very high level of tension on the battery cover which makes it more challenging. It is best to replace the batteries with the solar panel on a table or flat surface versus holding in your hand. A better approach to the battery compartment would have been a tool-less mechanism to open with much less tension.

Title: It does so many things
Review: This is an extremely versatile weather radio and it is compact too. Radio, cell phone charger, flashlight, radio, weather radio and more! A couple of the functions are a bit tricky to get to toggle back and forth such as the regular radio and the weather band radio but the multitude of functions make it worth it! The SAME technology was easy to set.

Review: I like my emergency preps to be multifunctional so I was really hopeful when I found this radio. I had an older Eton which still worked great but was unable to charge smart devices. This radio works well for that and the lights are good but the actual radio function isn’t great. Where I live the emergency station is AM1233 but because the radio has a digital tuner it goes up by tens so I can’t get the emergency station clearly. Such a silly oversight which really brings the product down.

Review: I quite enjoy this. I bought it as a Bluetooth shower radio - prev/next controls work!Of course, it's much more versatile. Out and about I've used the FM radio a fair bit. During power outages I've used the flood and flashlight. My only wishes are that: 1) I wish it had a Wake-With-Radio-Alarm--that would be amazing; 2) I wish it was more stable; perhaps they could add a wire clip style kickstand that frames the flood light. Not having the first wish I almost returned the radio, but then I saw their donation to Ukraine and thought "If I return this I'm going to feel like a schmuck."I'm proud to have a neat product by such a noble company. Great stuff, Eton!* (*Please wake my wishes come true. Thanks!)

Review: Remember when, as a kid, you wanted the camp knife that had 100 built-in tools? Or those folding binoculars that included a whistle and compass? The Sidekick is kind of like that, but in the most frustrating ways possible.2 stars because, while it lives up to its own claims/specs, it also fails at being a radio. Would not recommend to anyone.Good:- Has all the stated features (though, I didn't test the splash-proof-ness)- LED panel is good & flashlight is OK- Includes a *much-needed* manual- OK as a mono bluetooth speaker at non-loud volumesBad (I really tried to like it, honest!):- Very poor reception for FM. In an area where my car gets 30 FM stations perfectly, this radio gets 2-3. Possibly-related: the fully-extended antenna is only about 30cm long.- Forget about AM reception, I couldn't get a single station to work in any orientation- NOAA weather stations work, but you have to touch the antenna or else listen to constant loud static- 'Clear' sounding speaker, but not as full/musical as any old $30 bluetooth speaker you have kicking around- Operation is brutally unintuitive. I actually had to read and re-read the manual, which is tiny as mentioned in another review. Eton must have saved $0.02 per unit on all that paper, I guess.- Most buttons are likely to be inadvertently pressed by a knuckle when you pick it up by the handle – most notably, the swear-inducing 'cell' button- The manual states that the USB charger/input might cause loss of 'weak signals' – this is an understatement! In testing AM radio I noticed a loud annoying buzz when charging mode was active, a 'feature' that easily goes unnoticed (see next). Why does this even *need* a button, and why aren't these circuits isolated? Seriously, the engineers at Eton must have been tasked with creating a do-all-adventure-speaker-thing on a $10 budget.- 'Cell' button is mostly a hindrance to regular operation... if you can't get a clear radio signal you have to check if you accidentally enabled cell charging, and this happens way more often than you'll actually use the cell charger, since it's equivalent to a very small portable USB battery bank.- Speaker has an unpleasant tone when volume is turned up above 3/4 or so in any mode

Review: I got this to have radio and weather warnings in case the power goes out. I haven't had to use the crank power, and the solar charging is fairly slow. It does charge with mini-USB plug. Flashlight is weak but I do like the more diffuse light provided by the back panel for general lighting for camping. Battery life seems good. I haven't used the USB power bank.I can't see the lettering on the buttons (too small) under the handle, which is my only complaint.

Review: Love microscopic print and cryptic crossword puzzles? This radio will provide hours of entertainment. Even more if you can figure out how to preset the AM FM. Neither the website MANUAL nor the VIDEO explain in plain language how to preset the thing. As a (badly written) afterthought (clearly so from the way it's squeezed in) there are instructions on the enclosed guide which are both microscopic and cryptic. Not exactly intuitive. As far as the rest of it goes, I'm sure it's ok based on the number of positive reviews the power systems and actual radio go. That's why I bought it in the first place. It's maddening that they gush about all the emergency stuff and that's all well and good. Still, it's a RADIO, not a generator. For giving me all this frustration and taking up my time I'll be giving it two stars. Rah...Rah...

Customers say

Customers appreciate the radio's brightness and sound quality. However, they find the user interface confusing and difficult to use. They also mention that the buttons are hard to read under the solar cell panel. Opinions vary on functionality, build quality, charging port, and radio reception.
