Title: The new machine already has a defect.
Review: The newly arrived machine was filled with water according to the instructions in the manual, but the indicator light still showed a lack of water. I believe the water pump is faulty. Having a defect in a brand-new machine raises serious concerns about its quality. I returned the coffee machine and will not purchase this brand again in the future.

Title: A few months in â¦
Review: Iâve had this machine a few months. Itâs my first big girl espresso machine where I have to press the puck and watch the pressure gauge. It can be tricky but I figured it out after a few days and some TikTok research on how to make pressure.Keep in mind I am no barista nor fussy coffee drinker.Pros: absolutely love the americano feature. I use this 90% of the time! Large water tank. Automatic grinder. User friendly for new people trying to get their foot in the door. Husband enjoys frother.Cons: coffee grinder sprays grounds all over. The floor, the counter, behind the fridge⦠youâll find them where you least expect it. Excess water discharge when the contraption de-pressurizes. Now, I donât know much about how it works, but after completing a pull, about 1/3 cup water drains out of the system into the discharge catch tray. I buy distilled so it is annoying how much the machine wastes but this might be normal for every espresso maker? No clue.Buy it on sale, donât pay full price.

Title: Such a great at home machine!!!
Review: I love how easy this is to use + that the grinder is built in! Such a great price compared to other at home machines and compact so it doesnât take up so much space on your counter. Itâs really easy to clean and and only make noise when itâs grinding the beans, other wise itâs not that loud.

Title: Smooth Espresso
Review: Very pleased so far with the machine â like others, the grinder initially wouldnât work but you need to run it through an Espresso cycle before it activates. Way smoother and darker espresso than my Gaggia Classic Pro which had itâs water pump fail. Would recommend.

Review: *** The good ð ***â
The Semi-Automatic Philips Barista's final results pictures should speak for themselves but there are a few steps to follow and adapt to your style and preferences to get this kind of results. And a semi-automatic is precisely what I like. It handles the pressure and extraction. I can modulate and adjust everything else. I like the fact that I can start and stop grinding and brewing at the touch of a button. That's a level of control that automatic machines don't allow. Also, the steam pipe knob is very reactive which is another element that will contribute to getting in control of the brewing process.â
I'm well aware that "unboxing" is not an interesting topic, but I would still like to outline one brilliant yet simple idea Philips had which can be seen in two of my pictures. Which is the plastic ribbon that allows easy and safe removal of the machine from the box. That was so effortless. No need to effectively destroy the shipping box while it lies on the counter. Just pull the Barrista out and start to use it! Wow!*** Additional Comments ***ð I like my ristretto, well, ristretto. But for my better half and my brother, I use a "single" dose of grounds and press the "double" button for water. The crema will still be there but the coffee will be smoother and more diluted.ð I think that the video will answer a lot of questions that might arise in terms of size, sound level, and final results. I separated it into "unboxing", "initial cleaning", and "making coffee".ð In the making coffee part, the video shows me using a white paper filter on top of the ground coffee. I will not go into details, but it has a few advantages and is a part of my coffee-making routine.Verdict: 5âI hope my honest, real-life review will be helpful to you. If it was, don't hesitate to like it!

Review: Up until recently I had two coffee machines sitting on my counter, and would use them both daily as I like to have options.I use the K brand in the morning for my regular coffee, and the N brand for afternoons and after dinner espressos. This machine now replaces the two, but I will admit that my coffee bean collection has started to grow.If you like a variety of coffee blends and flavours (like the options available to you with the two aforementioned brands) then a dedicated machine like this might not be for you.I donât mind housing a few different flavoured beans, especially when my local shop allows me to buy small quantities to try them out.Once you get the beans home is where the fun starts, and being able to select your coarseness of beans is just the beginning.I wish this machine had the hopper that allowed you to put two different flavoured beans in at once like others have, but itâs not a deal breaker thatâs for sure.A good thing to remember when selecting your grind setting, is how you like your coffee.A simple rule is the finer the grind the more time the water has to filter through the âbeansâ the greater chance of it becoming bitter, but it is the recommended setting for espresso. The larger the grind the faster the water will pass over the âbeanâ, and you run the risk of it being too weak in flavour. This machine will allow you the ability to mix things up, so donât get discouraged if your first few cups arenât the best. One of the other good things about this machine is that you can adjust the water temperature to make a hotter beverageâ¦â¦which for me is great as I like a hot cup of coffee.â¨â¨I like the whole process of filling the bean hopper, adding the filter to the portafilter, tamping down the beans, and then even giving the milk frother a go, but the best part that always makes me laugh is calling out the wrong name of my wife every time I have her coffee ready, it makes me feel like a real barista. LOLâ¦If you donât mind taking a bit of time to truly make yourself a good espresso or coffee, then this machine is perfect for you.

Review: Great machine. It's frustrating at first. I still can't get pressure gage to go up to where it should be. Coffee grounds grt stuck sometimes after brewing a cup so cleaning is essential after every brew. It would be nice to brew 2 coffees in a row with out having to run water through to clean it after each cup. Americanos are definitely not as good as from the coffee shops. But pressure has a lot to do with it. It looks nice in my coffee bar. I think with more patience I'll learn to like this machine more.

Review: This espresso machine is impressive. Itâs easy to use and I enjoy making delicious lattes almost daily. I am not a morning person, so this machine has done a lot to make my morning a little bit better. Overall, Iâm very happy with the grinding and brewing abilities. Iâm still âwarming upâ to the milk steamer, since that is not automatic and Iâm still figuring out best techniques. What I likedâ
Grounded cord - I always have more confidence using a kitchen appliance when I see thereâs a grounded cord. Especially because thereâs water involved.â
Grinder setting is easy to change, as is the amount dispensed.â
Drip tray is easy to insert and remove. On another machine that Iâve tried, it had a very fussy drip tray that would need several attempts to sit right after re-inserting. Iâm much happier with the tray on the Philips Barista Brew.â
Drip tray has a dedicated section for grinds, presumably if you accidentally start to grind your beans before attaching the portafilter.â
The smell of freshly ground beans. I had previously been buying espresso grind beans for another machine, and nothing compares to freshly ground.â
Watching the pressure gauge. I donât drink espresso pure, but use it for soy milk lattes and cappuccinos. So, I always tolerated a little wiggle room with the extraction on another machine. Having the pressure gauge on the front of the machine has allowed me to fine tune the grind settings to craft the perfect extraction.â
Water tank handle placement. I love how visible and accessible it is to pull off the tank for emptying.â
Removal of filter basket is smooth. I can remove the filter basket (once cooled) from the portafilter with just my fingertips. On another machine, I had to use a dull knife inserted into groove to pop it out. This is much safer.â
Calibrated tamper. I needed this in my life! What I didnât likeâ Narrowed opening to the milk jug. I find that tapered angle makes it harder to judge how full it is when filling. It also makes it harder to clean because Iâd love to get my fingers in there, right to the bottom to give it a good scrub.â Temperature gauge on the milk jug is inaccurate and hard to read. With my jug, the âtoo hotâ red shows up before the âjust rightâ green. Maybe itâs because Iâm using soy milk instead of dairy, but figuring out the right temperature using the jugâs colour indicators has been constant frustration.â Narrow and hidden water tank. I really wish it would be more common for water tanks to be on the side of machines so they are easier to monitor while in use. I also wish that this tank was wide enough that I could get my hand inside for scrubbing down the walls periodically.â I find the Americano spout height gets in the way. I donât need that coffee shop look at home, so I donât have dedicated glasses/mugs for espresso and cappuccinos. I just want to make a basic latte using my favorite coffee mugs, which are a standard coffee mug height. My mugs fit under the portafilter, but the Americano spout blocks it from sliding in further. If the spout was just a touch higher, it would be perfect for me.â The steaming wand takes A LOT of practice. And it will squeal at you in the most high pitched way if youâre using it wrong. Iâve scared pets with it and Iâve had one awkward question from a neighbour. (âIs everything OK at home? Iâve been hearing some concerning noises the past few mornings.â)Overall, this is a very good espresso machine. 4.5 stars.

Review: The unit was shipped with missing parts. The milk frother does not work properly (not hot enough) and the noise from the frother is unbearable!
