Out, outrageous, provocative, and proud, this comprehensive anthology and library resource reviews 500 of the best of Hollywood's output of gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgendered, and queer questioning films, with a special emphasis on how gays changed the movies we know and love. Conceived as a working guide to what viewers should stock within their DVD queues, it reviews everything from blockbusters to indie sleepers, with about a dozen special features discussing the ironies, betrayals, subterfuge, and gossip of who, what, and how it happened when the film world's closet doors slowly creaked open beginning in 1960.

Title: 50 Years of Queer Cinema by Darwin Porter
Review: This book was recommended to me by an erudite man who is never wrong! Again, he has proved himself to be quite right as I enjoyed the book immensely. It is a comprehensive guide to gay-themed films of the last 50 years, a one-of-a-kind type of book you will want to have on the library table at the ready to check a title or actor whom you have seen or wish to see. What is more is there are many films even without a gay theme where the actors are playing to a gay audience. Hollywood actors and actresses know very well that the gay audience is the most loyal and loving of an actor's fan-base and give them their money's worth: who doesn't immediately find Marlon Brando utterly fascinating in 'Streetcat'. You will see my point when you fetch yourself a copy of this book.

Review: 500 films and Parallel Sons was left out? I hope the next edition comes out soon and corrects this oversight. I'm sure it's not the only great SGL film to be left out of this collection. And, to watch 500 films at an average of 90-120 minutes per, does suggest a heck of a lot of eye strain. My other criticism is how misleading some of the selections are. Deliverance - queer cinema?Anyway, please rent Parallel Sons, unless you really hate movies featuring hot, strawberry-blond dreadlocked, ebony/ivory criminal lovers on the run, and sleeping bag cuddling behind a roaring camp fire. Plus a wonderfully-rendered identity crisis by the breathtakingly beautiful Gabriel Mann. And Laurence Mason ain't no slouch in the looks department, either. The film features his hindquarters twice.

Title: Most Entertaining Film Guide Ever
Review: I purchase and read film guides, enjoying the critical appraisal of cinematic efforts. Most of them are rather dry, even pretentious. At long last I've found a guide to cinema that I could read cover to cover, like a novel. It is utterly fascination.Queer Cinema shows not just gays and lesbians on the screen, but provides a window on an evolving culture fighting for its place in the sun. Seemingly, there has been a film made about every aspect of the gay, world, and I was amazed at the variety of subjects previewed, dramas from Britain and America (of course), but also from such countries as China, India, Israel, and Korea. Many subjects are serious and deal with the mystery of human sexual behavior (Kinsey, for example), but others are strictly for fun (P.S. You Cat Is Dead). I not only expanded my horizons by reading this book, but had a good time doing so.Highly Recommended.

Review: Good anthology in terms of its thoroughness of english titles. However I was expecting more of a description and better movie review quality- it comes short. Also not much of a good reference book for anything that is not in english: USA or british. Dissappointed from those two point of view.

Review: You can read this book as a book or you can just dip in and out. Its quite a big book, and it needs some time to get from the first to the end. You might have a few things in this book that you did not know. If you love films and love certain people getting trashedthen this is the book for you.
