Reclusive American actor Randolph Scott, known for his subtle, dignified performances in almost 60 westerns, has been called the "most genuine Westerner." His career began in 1928 with the first of several bit parts; his first starring role was 1932's Heritage of the Desert. He fought in World War I, studying horsemanship, shooting, and bayoneting, and acted in a variety of films in every genre from musical to swashbuckler. His final film was Ride the High Country (1962).

Chronologically arranged from his birth in 1898 to his death in 1987, this book covers every film in which Randolph Scott acted. Each section begins with a biographical chapter and then lists Scott's films from that period: each film's entry has filmographic information, a synopsis, and detailed commentary, discussing such topics as the financial aspects, production details, acting, other participants, anecdotes, and critical responses. Quotes from interviews with figures in the industry and published reviews bolster the entries. A bibliographical essay completes the work, which is heavily illustrated with stills and promotional materials.

Title: Everything you could ask for about Scott's movies
Review: I found this book a wealth of information about each of Randolph Scott's films, including comments from many of his co-stars. The general consensus was that Scott was a true southern gentleman and a pleasure to work with.I just finished reading Chris Scott's book about his dad, so I was shocked that Robert Nott says in this book that Christopher Scott suggested his dad was "remote". Chris said no such thing. Nothing could be further from the truth. Quite the contrary, Randolph Scott was there for his son through thick and thin.I'm just amazed that Randolph Scott found the time for film-making considering all the time he spent with his son.

Title: Excellent book!
Review: If you're interested in western films and Randolph Scott, this is the best book on the subject. Very thorough research and excellent comments on each film, presented in reader-friendly fashion. Only thing missing that I wished were there were production dates. Other than that, as good a book on Randolph Scott as you're going to find.

Title: Great book! Small
Review: Great book! Small, concise stories of each of his movies (although I only follow his Westerns) with plenty of background information and some speculation from the authors viewpoint. Nicely illustrated and it's smaller physical size doesn't take up a lot of room in your library. A book Randolph Scott fans will have to have.

Excellent study on the life and films of Randolph Scott, that must be given prestige for the fans of this unforgettable actor/cowboy and who likes western movies as well. Other publications on Randy Scott that I recommend are the excellent " Last of The Cowboys Heroes" of the same author" as well as "Randolph Scott, a Film Biography" by J.B Crow and "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott" by Chistopher Scott.Mario Peixoto ALves

Review: this was a good book on the films of randolph scott. it had some nice tidbits on the film and some biographical info but onesappetite was barely wetted for personal information but apparantly randolph wasnt one for interviews .i would recommend it to any randolph scott fan

Review: Nice book, with a lot of photos I had never seen before. The explanations on the films are quite detailed and extended, the biography is also quite complete. However, I was expecting a larger book, as I have many Citadel books from the 80's and 90's related to "The films of..." (i.e. Cary Grant, Robert Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, etc) and they were heavier, with more pages and higher quality photos.

Review: Excellent detailed work of one of the best Western Stars in films. His career stretched from 1928 through until Ride The High Country in 1962. This book gives a fascinating history of all of Scott's films. Well illustrated throughout as you would expect from McFarland Publications this is a must for every fan of the reclusive American actor who fought in World War 1 and ended his career in one of the best Westerns ever made.

Review: This Robert Nott book covers the films of Randolph Scott from SHARP SHOOTERS 1928 to RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY 1962. Although you could be forgiven for thinking of him as dressed solely in western-garb, as this book explains, earlier he had appeared in dramas, romances, comedies, musicals, swashbucklers and war films before settling in westerns only from the mid 1940's (mostly all in colour) and as the lines in his weather-beaten face tightened during the 1950's he became more and more like the great William S Hart.Randolph Scott Westerns still appear from time to time on television and a high number can be found on DVD from various sources, not bad when you realise his last film was made nearly fifty years ago. I must admit that I was a little disappointed when comparing this 235 page book with the excellent Citadel Press Film Star Series it loses out a little in terms of size and number of illustrations, hence four stars. On the upside it's well written with much additional information and antidotes from many of Scott's directors and co-stars and as such is a must for any Randolph Scott fan or Western aficionado.
