Orville Nix is not the typical JFK assassination book. This book does not attempt to answer the question of who killed John F. Kennedy; instead, it addresses why we should question the actions of those involved and why the truth was withheld from the people. Though copies of Orville Nix’s film exist, the original film is missing. Why? The FBI confiscated Orville’s camera for several months, then returned it in pieces. Were these actions sinister or were they just examples of governmental incompetence? Orville Nix exposes information about the House Select Committee staff’s involvement in the missing film. Author Gayle Nix Jackson’s interviews with people who were close to Orville and the film will shed light on the government’s involvement with the filmmaker.

Gayle Nix Jackson is the granddaughter of Orville Nix. As his eldest granddaughter, Nix Jackson shares experiences growing up with her beloved grandfather and on how his views changed after that fatal day. Hearing his story precipitated the quest Jackson is still on to find the film. Her grandfather was there that day for a reason, and if the original Nix film could be located, modern-day technology could determine if there was indeed another person behind the stockade fence or not. Questions still abound today as to whether or not the film was altered. Finding the original Nix film would answer one of the most enduring questions related to this horrific event: Was there a conspiracy to kill John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963?

Title: Finally a Kennedy assassination book worth reading
Review: Over the past few years there have been books written or ghost written by the self-professed girl friend of Lee Harvey Oswald and the alleged mistress of Lyndon Johnson. Then there is the video confession of the real Grassy Knoll assassin currently residing in an Illinois prison. At last we have a Kennedy assassination book written by a relative of a first person witness that is well written, thought-provoking, and intelligent.Gayle Nix Jackson, the granddaughter of Orville Nix, weaves a compelling tale of what happened to her grandfather before, during and after he photographed the assassination from the opposite side of Abraham Zapruder’s position. Additionally we have the extraordinary mystery of what happened to this now missing film as it wound its way through time? With the advent of better technology one can only wonder what the original film contains in the shadows. Copies show it reveals the area of the purported position of several shooter locations behind the picket fence. Since the original images could resolve issues related to conspiracy it remains a crucial piece of lost history. And this story of the man and his vanished film is well worth reading.Dave Perry

Title: A much needed backstory to one of the most important pieces of evidence.
Review: Just finished reading Orville Nix: The Missing JFK Assassination Film by Gayle Nix Jackson, granddaughter of Orville Nix. While the lion’s share of publicity in the JFK assassination movies taken that dreadful day has gone toward the Zapruder film, the Nix film is just as, if not more, important in what it shows. Taken from the opposite side of Elm St., it shows the Grassy Knoll and apparent movement behind the stockade fence at the time of the head shot(s).The original film, as well as the camera that filmed it, has a shady history in the hands of the government, just as the Zapruder film does. The original film has been unaccounted for since at least 1978 and may contain important information which may be forever lost if not analyzed with the latest technology. The copy I have of the book is a heavily highlighted and marked up second hand paperback, but I thought so highly of it that I ordered a new hardcover version. The book describes in great detail the hurdles that were placed in front of Orville, and later, Gayle, to retrieve what was properly theirs and to get it the rightful attention that it deserves. No other book from that dark day in Dallas left me with the feel of the place and time that this book does.I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the assassination or to those who are just interested in the history of the period.

Title: Good Read
Review: Enjoyed the book immensely. We hear so much about the main players of that day and the side stories helps put the puzzle together. Reading this book while flying to Dallas to get my first tour of the sixth floor museum made it even more special. Mr. Nix was a simple, decent honest man, but very naive. After watching the Deep State in action over the course of the last six years it is not hard to understand how coordinated the assassination and cover up of JFK was.

Title: Powerful, gripping family story
Review: The private, the public, and the political-- in no other case do these things become blurred as much as in any analysis of the death of John F. Kennedy. Gayle Nix Jackson tells the story of Orville Nix, a man with a camera who happened to be on the ground for a life-changing (world-changing, and in some ways world-ending) event, the murder of President Kennedy in Dallas in 1963. But this isn't merely Grassy Knoll Clue, as so many books on the topic end up; this is a personal and thoughtful meditation on how a larger moment can eclipse the experience of an individual, and what it is to stand up to The Status Quo (government and media versions of both). This book is easily one of the most important JFK books to appear in the last twenty years.

Title: The Missing Film Evidence
Review: It must've been the direction of the filming that made the difference. Abraham Zapruder filmed JFK's assassination from one side of the street, while Orville Nix filmed across the street from him... & caught something suspicious on film in the area of the Grassy Knoll. In "26 Seconds," Alexandra Zapruder complains her family had to put up with a lot due to her Grandfather's assassination film. She should be so lucky that her last name wasn't Nix! After all, the Zapruder family received millions for their film, while the Nix family received nothing but misery & mistreatment by both the gov't & the media. Abraham Zapruder was a successful businessman who was treated courteously concerning his film; Orville Nix was a poor, uneducated laborer who believed in - & was taken advantage of - by the US gov't.Reading about how Mr Nix was used, abused, lied to, etc, by those he trusted really made me angry. I could feel his granddaughter's anguish throughout the pages of this book. Ms Nix-Jackson was similarly mistreated & lied to when she embarked on her search for the original film from her grandfather's camera. I'm certain this is due to the fact that the "something" on the Grassy Knoll that showed up in Mr Nix's film really is something important - something the gov't wants to continue covering up through lies & intimidation.

Review: Not a bad book by any means the reason I gave it only 3 stars was because it took a long time to get to the main part which was of course the assassination analysis. still it was a fairly good read.
