The term film noir, French for "black film" was first applied to Hollywood films in 1946 and is generally regarded as extending from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography. Most of the stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Great Depression. Restored in HD from the Original Film Prints, included in this 6 DVD double Collector's set package is the thrilling the Red House, Frank Sinatra's Suddenly, a film noir gem Kansas City Confidential, the brilliant Pitfall featuring Dick Powell, Jane Wyatt and Lizabeth Scott, the Stranger featuring Edward G. Robinson and the Strange Love of Martha Ivers with Barbra Stanwyck, Van Heflin and Lizabeth Scott. All classic noir.

Title: A very good product
Review: I have found these movies to be quite good. I'm enjoying them more then I thought I would. The quality of the images is as good as the original given the age of the originals. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the Noir movies.

Title: Great collection!
Review: We've watched all except the Sinatra flick and each one has been excellent. You may not have heard of all of these, but for lovers of noir, I can't imagine a better set of movies.

Title: Great Movies - Terrible DVD Manufacturing & Quality
Review: I'm a huge fan of the golden years of film making. This Noir set contains 6 great movies however the problem is whomever made this or was responsible for quality control really dropped the ball and messed up royally. One disc is not usable. The DVD disc for Kansas City Confidential is not in DVD format. When opened on my computer to view the files that it contains there are no VOB files that are usual for DVDs. Instead there are several file directories and some strange files that end with DAT. I'm not sure if that is a video format or some type of a data file that was used in the process of making the DVD files. The bottom line is it won't play on any of my players or my computer. The hassle now is that I have to return the whole package of 6 discs total. I won't buy it again because there is not guarantee that the problem has been fixed.Oh well take the risk is you want.

Review: Five of the six discs I received were good. Disc 3 (Kansas City Confidential) is a data DVD with no movie content.Buyers should be aware that the discs are in UHD DVD format and may not work on all DVD players.
