Max desperately wanted to play the latest game from the original developers of the Skydyve console “Escaping the Dark”, but to do that, he’d have to leave the safety of his apartment. In 2030, the PC gaming culture was slowly dying and Max knew that he’d have to change eventually, but was this the time?
In the end, he decided to take the chance by going to a local VR cafe so that he wouldn’t have to find a way around getting a VR license. With the added perk of being able to play with people from the cafe, Max headed out into the unforgiving world that’d always bullied him for his feminine appearance and mannerisms. This time would have to be different, wouldn’t it?
It wasn’t until he partied up with a reckless but skilled woman from the cafe that Max realized the kind of experiences he’d been missing out on. But not everything was peaches and cream. If he wanted to keep playing with her, she had a strange request. She wanted Max to become a female in-game. If not for the fact that he was a stranger to her, Max would have said no in an instant. But… Airy was the first person he’d actually wanted to play with in years. There was no way he could say no to her request. If he knew what would have come from that single, all-important decision, he might have had second thoughts…

Review: I have read several of her book and found that I really enjoy the way Ms Layne spins a tail. I will definitely be reading more of her books. You should check her out.

Title: Parts were good, parts were really bad
Review: The LitRPG portions of this story are really well done. The relationship parts, not so much. We get beaten over the head with the fact that the protagonist grew up being bullied for being feminine. It doesn't need to be mentioned every time he has a feminine thought. Shoot, him being bullied even gets wedged into the sex scene at the end. Just too much. And he's rich. Fine, you don't need to explain how rich he is every time he opens his wallet. If anything all that 'he's rich and nice' flogging just made me dislike him. Finally once you describe any attribute of a character you don't need to keep going back to refresh our memories. It's a novella, not a book in a ten book five million word epic. We'll remember people's attributes for the hour it takes to read. The characters romance 'not sex' interactions felt very forced and awkward. Especially when every single interaction had to have some soul rending drama wedged into it. Needs proofread, there are some egregious typos and instances of characters knowing stuff they really shouldn't have known. Not the worst thing I've read today, but no where near the better quality stuff on KU.
