We are all Born to Eat. It seems only natural for us to start at the beginning--with our babies. When babies show signs of readiness for solid foods, they can eat almost everything the family eats and become healthy, happy eaters in the process. By honoring self-regulation (also an innate skill) and focusing on a whole food foundation, we can foster healthier children, parents, and families. Born to Eat is a book about a family-based feeding philosophy that encompasses a baby-led weaning and a non-diet approach. For thousands of years, humans have thrived without "baby food" (which was invented in the late nineteenth century). Think about it: the human race has made it this far largely on whole food. Only in recent decades have we begun overthinking and over-processing our foods, which has led to chronic dieting, chronic disease, disordered eating, body distrust, and epidemic confusion about the best way to feed ourselves and families. Eating is an innate skill that has been overcomplicated by marketing schemes and a dieting culture. It's time to leave the dieting culture behind for the whole family. It starts with the baby's first bite! Aside from the United States, most countries are accepting of babies starting of solids with the foods of the family. With a focus on self-feeding and baby-led weaning approach, registered dietitians and wellness experts Leslie Schilling and Wendy Jo Peterson provide age-based advice, step-by-step instructions, help for parents, and easy recipes so you can ensure that your infant is introduced to healthy and tasty food as early as possible. You don't have to cook another entire meal to feed just baby, nor blend everything you eat into a puree to support healthy growth in an infant. With a little patience, presence, and skill, you can transform nearly any family meal into a baby-friendly food. Who knew a little planning could have the whole family eating together, and better?

Title: A MUST have book for any new parent!
Review: An empowering, easy to read guidebook for parents and caregivers alike, Born To Eat will minimize your fears at meal time and introduce your babies to the wonderful (and delicious) world of food. I knew I wanted to cook for my baby but I never knew I could feed her what we ate until I read an article about this book. I love the easy to follow tools, nutrient recommendations, and quick recipes at the end of the book. It takes all the guess work out of ensuring that your baby has well-balanced meals from their first bite. I also appreciate the non-judgemental and supportive approach to education - I always feel encouraged when I glance back at the book for suggestions. Other benefits: I havenât purchased a single baby food item; I only prepare one meal for the whole family and guests; my baby literally devours everything including steak, seafood, all veggies, Indian food, Ethiopian food, Polish food, Italian food⦠she hasnât met a meal she didnât like, and meal time is always a pleasure (though often messy!). This book is my go to gift for baby showers now and a book I have purchased for friends with children who are fussy at mealtime. Let this book be your guide to nourish your family and engage with food, you won't regret that you did.

Title: The best!!
Review: This book is incredible! It's full of science backed research (and references!), beautifully organized, wonderful illustrations, helpful tips, yummy recipes and meal plans! I find the comparisons of how to cut food based on the child's stage to be extremely helpful. This book was written with everyone in mind - from a super talented and experienced cook, to a mediocre cook like myself! It answered all of my questions and addressed fears I had when I started my daughter on solids. I also love their website, instagram page (borntoeatbook), and Facebook page because the authors continue to give tips, meal ideas, abs new info. It was incredibly well thought out. This is definitely a book I will be giving new parents and grandparents. This book received rave reviews by one of the pioneers of Baby Led Weaning, Gill Rapley, as well as countless registered dietitians and culinary nutritionists that are well known in their field. I felt very empowered after reading this book. I will continue to reference it as my daughter grows. Our family is a huge fan of this book.

Title: Perfect BLF/BLW Guide
Review: This book is a must have whether you're starting from the beginning with a baby led feeding approach or if you started with purées and are still a little nervous about feeding baby table food. We started with BLW and quickly chickened out after our babe's first few little gags. I could not find enough support or resources to make me feel confident I was feeding her solids the "right way". Thankfully I found the Born to Eat social media pages around the same time my baby started refusing to be spoon fed.I could not wait for my copy to ship. The literature reads as if you are bouncing ideas off you're best friend over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. The recipes we have tried so far have been delish! But, my favorite part(s) of the book are the detailed guide on how to get started, what to start with, and how to prepare and cut for each skill level. Now that I finally feel confident enough in what and how I am feeding my baby, mealtimes are less stressful and more fun - the way they should be!

Title: Good guide, recommended by my friends and me
Review: Helpful guide to starting solidsMy coworker has read this with all 3 of her childrenWe're using it to guide our now 7 month olds journey with food.I LOATHE reading nonfiction/self help style books but this is a quick read, they do mix in research vs solely opinion based, and it has a no/low guilt vibe to it kind of a "do what is best for your specific family" message. Some useful reference pages for baby meals, serving sizes etc.I wish I had had our mom's (baby's grandmas) read it before we started foods because they're freaked out by our approachI docked 1 star in my review not for the content of the book but for the condition. I bought a used "good" condition book and it was disgusting! I literally disinfected/cleaned food from both covers and there are food stains inside

Title: An excellent tool
Review: I am a nutritionist and first time mom so I wanted to make sure I had the right tool to start the feeding process with my son. This book gave me confidence for the research which it counts, by the experience of the authors and their friendly language. I loved that since we started we didn't have to cook "special" food for the baby. Our son was always part of the time of the meal.Today he is almost two years old and he eats a variety of foods, we cook nothing different for him and he eats at the table to share this special time with us. He started to be part of the preparation of food and I think all starts from the fact that we respect his intuition selecting the amount of food he needs to eat and he has the confidence to eat on his own.I truly recommend this book!! We love it!

Title: The book is very easy to read
Review: As a Registered Dietitian and mom, I was eager to read this book after seeing and hearing more and more about BLW. I wanted to gain knowledge professionally to help moms out there navigate the world of feeding their babies. My first thought while reading this book was "why didn't I BLW with my babies?!". It really takes all the guesswork and calms whatever nerves you may have had about the process. For me, I was nervous about choking but the authors hold your hand and help you maneuver through the BLW process. The book is very easy to read, it includes the science in an easy to understand way and anecdotal stories which you can relate to. Born to eat guides you through each step of the process including some great recipes at the end! If you are a mom, caregiver or registered dietitian I highly recommend you read this book to learn more about the BLW process. Even if you want to feed purees, you will gain so much knowledge from reading this book.

Review: I only read half the book and found myself skimming though that first half. It was way too wordy and did not get to the point quick enough. If you are considering BLW I would recommend the original book on baby led weaning
