FUNNY FACE DESCRIPTION
Fashion photographer Dick Avery, in search for an intellectual backdrop for an air-headed model, expropriates a Greenwich Village bookstore. When the photo session is over the store is left in a shambles, much to salesgirl Jo Stockton's dismay. Avery stays behind to help her clean up.
Later, he examines the photos taken there and sees Jo in the background of one shot. He is intrigued by her unique appearance, as is Maggie Prescott, the editor of a leading fashion magazine. They offer Jo a modeling contract, which she reluctantly accepts only because it includes a trip to Paris. Eventually, her snobbish attitude toward the job softens, and Jo begins to enjoy the work and the company of her handsome photographer.

Title: Could not turn off Korean subtitles!
Review: Unfortunately, on a portable DVD player, no option exists in "Setup" or any other menu to turn off the Korean subtitles. They cover approximately 1/3 of the screen, ruining the view of this classic movie.

Review: Audrey Hepburn was magic, no matter what role she was playing. The camera loved her, the way it loved Elizabeth Taylor, Hedy Lamar, Ava Gardner & Marilyn Monroe. They don't make'm like this any more folks, either movies or stars.So, if you'd like to see why Hepburn could easily have changed careers & ruled the fashion catwalks of "haute couture," then catch her as she models said couture, in Paris no less!! She's as beautiful as the city itself &, given that we're talking about Paris, the aptly named "City of Light," holding her own with that city's boulevards & gardens is no mean feat.As for co-star Fred Astaire, well, he's Fred Astaire. No matter where he was, or what role he was playing, Astaire, when he danced, was magic as well. Although I've never been a fan of either his acting (a little too wooden, or schmaltzy), or his singing (pedestrian at best), when Fred danced, he made it look elegant, easy & natural. He also made you believe that dancing down the Champs D'Elysee was what every tourist did. And this movie was made in 1957, just as the fabled Hollywood studio system was beginning its long decline. They wouldn't be making pics like Funny Face for too much longer.So, if nothing else, you can watch this movie as a paean to a dying art form, one where you sang & danced down a Paris boulevard & photographed Audrey Hepburn descending a grand staircase in a red evening gown. Marvelous!

Review: It took me a long while to get to this film but so happy I did. Audrey Heburn and Fred Astaire in a tuneful, delightful treat. Both in song and gorgeous cinematography. Not to mention on site filming in Paris and the GREAT Kay Thompson. Think Pink! Entertaining and delightful

Review: Released in 1957, this movie turns out to be a run of the mill musical. The plot is cartoonlike and the characters unidimensional. It basically just aligns a series of song and dance routines, only two of which are truly worthwhile: « Think Pink » which showcases the talent and creativity of little remembered Kay Thompson and « Bonjour Paris » which highlights the cityâs iconic monuments.Multiple shortcomings may be pointed out:⢠Fred Astaire is actually 30 years older than his co-star Audrey Hepburn and looks yet 10 years older (by todayâs standards anyway); they make a very implausible couple.⢠Paris is just a glamorous backdrop for the movie and there is no significant French character.⢠Even if the movie is partly set in New York, there is no African American character, not even an extra.⢠The movie displays an odd anti-intellectual bias, with the inconsiderate (and illegal) invasion of a bookstore in Greenwich Village and by ridiculing student haunts in Paris.The DVD presents very professionally restored images and includes enlightening bonuses, notably on Kay Thompsonâs career.
