When Walt Larimore, MD, moved his young family to Kissimmee, Florida, to start a small-town medical practice in 1985, he had no idea he was embarking on an enterprise that would change his life in ways both large and small. Dr. Larimore shared some of these heartwarming and heartbreaking tales in The Best Medicine. Now he offers up more charming stories of his time as a family physician in a rural, small-yet-growing town in The Best Gift.

You'll learn some of life's greatest lessons. And you'll wish Dr. Larimore was your doctor.

Title: The Best gift is a delightful and intriguing read!
Review: What a delightful book to read! I just wanted to keep turning page after page and not stop. Dr. Walt Larimore's telling of his time and the wonderful hometown people in Kissimmee, Florida is intriguing, captivating, delightful, and moving. When I read his story of the devastating tornado that ripped through the town and the miracles of people saved, I was on the edge of my seat. He writes with honor, humor, insight and inspiration and makes you want to keep reading the whole way through to the end. What a great gift this is not only for the buyer but for gifts for others and how it will touch their lives. It will not disappoint and you won't want to put it down till the last page is read!

Title: The Best Gift: Tales of as Small-Town Doctor Learning Lifeâs Greatest Lessons
Review: âThe Best Gift: Tales of a Small-Town Doctor Learning Lifeâs Greatest Lessonsâ is a wonderful followup book from Dr. Larimoreâs earlier book âThe Best Medicineâ. There are many poignant stories of lifeâs joy and sadness in the middle of a family medicine practice in Florida. He writes about the closeness that is a blessing in small town life, something that seems to be slipping away today, even in neighborhoods.Dr. Larimore is transparent to discuss a very difficult time in his marriage and Christian faith after the birth of his daughter, but it was joyfully restored by the grace and mercy of a loving God.Itâs a story of growing in life, medical practice and faith that is well worth the time to read.

Title: Encouragement in Every Chapter!
Review: I read this to my elderly mother and it helped calm her during times of stress and confusion. Dr. Larimore knows just how to help the reader see the love and hope we have in Jesus. I especially appreciate his honesty and humility in sharing where he struggled because I could relate, and it helped me get my focus back on Jesus.

Title: Great book!
Review: I am only half way through the book but I have already laughed, cried and been inspired by Dr. Larimoreâs stories of real life events. I love the fact that even as a medical doctor he seeks to bring practicing medicine together with a spiritual aspect. So few doctors are willing to combine their faith, prayer and perhaps leading patients to Christ while treating their medical conditions. I was hooked in the very first chapter being sure I personally had known one of the persons he mentioned. I canât wait to finish the book and then, it will join my collection of his Bryson City books. I met Dr. Larimore many years ago at a book signing at Hemlock Inn when those books came out. I am so thankful for his books, stories that shaped his career and wisdom he gained that he shares in his tales.

Title: Wonderful Medicine for Both Body and Soul
Review: I could hardly wait to read The Best Gift after finishing Dr. Larimore's 4th book in this series, The Best Medicine. These 2 books are experiences from his 15 years as a family physician in the small town of Kissimmee, FL. This may be the best one yet - it was hard for me to put down. He describes the devastation he and his wife Barb felt when their first baby Kate was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He gives a gut-wrenching description of how it almost destroyed their marriage and his faith. The doctors gave them a hopeless prognosis that she would ever walk or talk - and yet she did both by age three. Then out of the blue at age 11 she had a sudden seizure that lasted for 90 minutes and required 4 medications to stop. I could not put the book down as I read his gripping story of how it seemed she was brain dead and all their hopes and dreams for her were over. Then the unexpected miracle happened, and I burst out laughing with relief - as did the hospital staff witnessing it! Other stories would not let me put the book down, especially the baby born with diaphragmatic hernia who developed sudden pneumothorax and was dying right before Doc's eye and forced him to perform a procedure he'd never done before on a newborn. Twenty years later that baby's grandfather sent Dr. Walt a note of thanks as that young man graduated from college! Another favorite was Eva, who was almost comatose and dying, but HOPE basically restored her to life when she was told by her pregnant daughter that she had a granddaughter on the way. Any one of these stories alone was worth the price of the book to me, but combined they make an awesome "Must Read"!

All the chapters inspired me because there was a life lesson in each chapter. The book motivated me to be more like the author and evaluate the good and bads things in life to see what lessons God is teaching me through my life experiences. The author is an exceptional storyteller who made me feel like I was part of the story. The Best Gift would be the perfect read for this busy upcoming holiday season - I definitely enjoyed it.
